Hello there.

I've recently found myself stumbling over a couple of mods/addons designed with the idea to replace the current WoW Glue Screen with that of whatever other glue screen one might wish to replace it with. Doing this by basically creating the file path "World of Warcraft\Interface\GLUES\MODELS\UI_MainMenu_Northrend/" and chucking the "new" Glue Screen data in there.

As this doesn't exactly modify anything in the game itself, nor would it ever in half a million years or so have any impact on gameplay or whatnot, and that it goes by the Interface folder, I'd assume this as something that can be safely done without running the risk of facing a penalty for modifying the game content.

But I'd rather go by a direct and actual answer to whether or not this is something that's allowed to do, rather than go by assumptions. So;

Is it, or is it not, allowed by Blizzard's current terms and policies to alter the game's Glue Screen/Login Screen by replacing the Glue Screen files by the Interface folder?

Also, I'm assuming this is the right place for this thread, as it pretty much sums down to a technical issue.

I warned you! I warned you, but did you listen to me? Oh no, you knew it all, didn't you? Oh it's just a harmless little bunny, isn't it? Oh well, it's always the same!

Modifying the actual game files is against t the terms of use but modifying part of the interface is ok.

As it's located in the Interface folder I cant see any issues.

Great, that's just what I was hoping to hear.

But what about the glue screen soundtrack? There are AddOns with the goal of making it possible to play different sounds and music than those of the game, but what about the music that plays at the glue screen?

It obviously can't be edited with an AddOn written in LUA (as those would only ever actually take effect once signed in with a character), so the only option seems to be to make the file path "World of Warcraft/Data/Sound/Music/GlueScreenMusic" and put a correctly named .mp3 file in there. But that - obviously - involves changing stuff in the Data folder and would perhaps be seen as modifying the game, or are the policies on replacing audio different from those on replacing textures and models?

That would be against the ToU, and thus not allowed.

I'd like to ask if this addon would be allowed. The creator says in the comments that he's read this thread, but that he doesn't change anything, only add files. It'd be very nice to have the option he provides (Not because of the dragon, but for the more nostalgic music), so I'd like to make sure about this particular addon. :)

His response:
"I have read through the european thread carefully.

The poster of this worded his question in such a way that the Blizzard legal team would have to say it is in violation of the ToU.

The poster said "But that - obviously - involves changing stuff in the Data folder ..."

Which would be against the ToU because that would mean modifying Blizzards .mpq files.

However adding additional folders and files, even your own .mpq files does not violate the ToU.

Only changing the current files in the Data folder violates the ToU, therefore this addon is indeed legal to use, because it does not "change" anything in the Data folder."

Thanks in advance.

A little bump if it's allowed, it's on the fourth page and I'd love an answer. The login screen track was amazing the first few months, but by now I'd like something not as loud and epic as the current one, and this addon would fix that. I hope a Blue reads my first post carefully and judge if that addon is allowed or not, despite the comment of the author. :)

Indeed, why is it not possible anymore to change the login screens/music through the Interface folder? Kropacius stated putting stuff in this folder is ok, and it doesn't give you any advantages in the actual game, so why was this disabled in 3.2?
