Zarhym(US Blue):

Q u o t e:

Just to confirm, Tome of Cold Weather Flight is actually a new heirloom item planned to go into patch 3.2. At level 80 players can buy this heirloom item from the Cold Weather Flying Trainer in Dalaran for 1,000 gold and send it to an alt of the same realm, faction and account. The tome can be used to learn Cold Weather Flying at level 68, consuming the tome in the process.

Please note this feature is not yet in the newest version of the public test realm patch notes updated today. The item and its functionality are subject to change during the testing process.

PTR Patch Notes: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=17899680776&sid=1

[quote] Pardon, but doesnt it still require level 70 to learn how to fly AT ALL?

Oh, wait. Druids.

Stupid druids.

Check out the "Mounts" section of the PTR notes:

Q u o t e:

# Mounts

* The cast time for summoning any ground mount is now 1.5 seconds, down from 3 seconds.
* Apprentice Riding (Skill 75): Can now be learned at level 20 for 4 gold. Mail will be sent to players who reach level 20 directing them to the riding trainer.
* Journeyman Riding (Skill 150): Can now be learned at level 40 for 50 gold. Mail will be sent to players who reach level 40 directing them back to the riding trainer.
* Expert Riding (Skill 225): Can now be learned at level 60 for 600 gold from trainers in Honor Hold or Thrallmar. Faction discounts now apply (Honor Hold for Alliance; Thrallmar for Horde). Flight speed at this skill level has been increased to 150% of run speed, up from 60%.
* Artisan Riding (Skill 300): Faction discounts now apply (Honor Hold or Valiance Expedition for Alliance; Thrallmar or Warsong Offensive for Horde).
* In order to further equalize the number of purchasable mounts available to each race, a new 60% speed ground mount has been added for night elves, and a new 100% speed ground mount has been added for the undead.
* Flying over Dalaran and Wintergrasp is now possible so long as players keep a healthy distance above the ground.

Q u o t e:

Do we still have to pay the 1000 for the Skill after we buy the tome, or does the tome from our level 80 replace the cost for our lower level?

Q u o t e:
You just have to buy the tome. The cost for the player is the same. It just means if you have an alt and can afford it, you can get yourself flying in Northrend by level 68.

Q u o t e:
Players must be level 80 to purchase the tome and it can only be transferred to a character on the same realm, faction and account.

Great for Alts :D

Only for your alts though, since it's an Heirloom and will still cost 1000G. And most newcommers to the game aren't as good with making Gold as we are.

Besides, you can't enter Dala 'till lv 74 anyway.

Pretty sure it requires 80 to buy anyway, at least that's what it said on MMO-champ.

Enders (80 Orc warr)- Caelynn (73 BE rogue)- Náriel (70 BE pala)- Aleph (70 Orc sham)- Krisiun (70 Troll hunter)- Daeryn (70 BE pala)- Attícus (80 UD mage)

/trade: "Looking for a kind mage to make me a portal to Dalaran. Will pay a kind tip too. :D"
I don't know about you, but my alt's first Northrend fp was the one in Dalaran. ;)

From my alts perspective, i like the changes. Faster mounts, getting to fly sooner.. But it does make everything easy access, more faceroll. :-/

"Don't just assume things! It makes an ASS out of U and ME." - everything's related to asses, you bet it's a quote from Tightbriefs. ^_^

No one forces you to use the tome, so it's fine by me.

Great. shame my 80's are all on a different realm faction.

Cheers Blizz - yet another reason Bind to Account should either be renamed or fixed so that it really is bind to account.

I've checked through all the manuals and online sources I can find and I still can't seem to come across the part where it's compulsary to piss and moan over trivial crap.

I agree.

"Bound to Account But Only Faction And Server" sounds so much better.

Just ticks me off, for things like the gear, to be completely honest i dont mind that much. I can get armor from other sources, ok it didnt scale but it didnt matter.

But basic skills like this should be able to detect if you have an 80 on the account and the skill be available lower accordingly.

This isnt like an item i can find replacements for. Not having BoA shoulders didnt mean your character never wore shoulders, but being excluded from certain skills because i chose to re-roll to a different server when i grew bored rather than simply cancel the game is something of a kick in the teeth.

For alts this is a perfect solution but not for mains. I wish the tome would be avaiable to all for 1k g with no level restriction since some people just dont like making alts (like me) and I dont think flying faster through content would make it less interesting.

Trust me - as an alt this is looking like a pretty bloody lousy solution

Nihala, if that's the Alt in question then you'll probably be able to level to 80 before 3.2 hits.
It's still being tested on the PTR and that usually takes a good while.
Especially since it includes a new Raid instance that needs testing and tuning.

Tseric was right.

'Trust me'? I have a lot of alts and I'm very happy with this. It means my alts can start flying in Outland, rush through and fly on in Northrend without having to walk for 7 levels, ánd at 150% speeds instead of 60%. The only thing I 'regret' is not having an alt below 60 by that time to take advantage of the 20/40 mount change.

Why does it look lousy to you?

3 x 80 (hunter, resto shaman, tank DK), 3 x 70+, 6 x 60+, 2 x 20+

I've seen the Light and I've heard the Voice. And the Voice said "turn it off, it's freaking 4 in the morning!".

I'm torn.. On the one hand, my alts will be happy to be flying around, but on the other, they will be less likely to run into someone to gank cos everyone else will be flying too.

Join the cause. Bring back the REAL Alterrac Valley.

Adding blue to this:

The tome costs 1,000 gold. It is not meant to bypass the cost of the training, but only to allow for level 80 players with alts the ability to fly in Northrend once they arrive at level 68. It's a small perk for those who have reached level 80 and like leveling new races or classes. :)

Players must be level 80 to purchase the tome and it can only be transferred to a character on the same realm, faction and account."
