I'm currently reinstalling wow after a complete hardrive cleanout after a virus attack...any special reason it take ages longer than any other game i got to install?

Good things come to those who wait. :)
"Once we jumped off the boat and into the jungle, we cranked up the volume and marched to our own drummer..."
i know. still...its like 5 patches. why not just replace them with a big one?
It's probably resource-related. Blizz don't want to spend money for making one big install-file everytime a new patch arrives. As I'm pretty sure that close to no one re-install the game to often in a year.
And when next expansion release there will be one gigantic file, and probably a patch or two to get the new complete game.
Do as I do, I keep all my patches "up to date" in a single catalogue. And when/if you need to re-install, then you probably dont need to download anything, except maybe last patch.
Last time I installed WoW (WotLK) on a clean computer I downloaded it from wow-europe.com/account It download and install the same time. Sure, the download made it to take longer. But alot better than before. :)
Q u o t e: Just do a backup of your installation and then copy&paste it back from your back up drive.
It's way faster and you keep all your settings/mods etc.
This. I have my WoW on my HD and one on my external HD. Keeping them both updated, if one crashes and needs to be re-installed I can just copypasta.

Although, last time I wanted a completely clean install (for windows 7) and I tried the download installer from the account page.
It was faster then installing from dvd :D
One of the advantages of having fiberoptics all the way in my house. I love my provider.

That's what I do, it's much faster.
After a reinstall of Windows, just copy the wow folder back to the location I want it, create a shortcut to the wow.exe file and bingo, WoW minus the installation :-)
