Compared to the Shaman Q&A, as always the mages were left with what appears to be a half-hearted and generally rehashed version. Anyone could've made this Q&A. Just grab all the blue posts on mages over the last 3 months, shove them into a thread and voila! You'd get more information then what we were given in this.
Very very disappointed. But that's what i've come to expect from GC's attitude towards mages.
It didn't answer ANY of the concerns that mages have, and when you couple this with the poor showing from 3.1 and the abysmal showing we're getting in 3.2. It's quite clear that the dev's haven't got a clue about mages.
I'm disappointed, too, though I did not expect much. When reading the 3.2 patch notes I was like "oh my... tha'ts it? well, wait for the Q&A, maybe there's something in there that WILL lead to additional 3.2 changes" but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I'm feeling left out. Even in beta fire mages complained that they would prefer the new fire lock playstyle over the "I toss my single nuke at BOSS" every time and kept on hoping that they would get something similar. We have this whole lot of spells and they tell us it is intended that we will use only ~3 at maximum in our dps rotation since this is "mage style"?
However, I will try to summarize things that don't seem to fit in another thread. This one is to show that we (and my specc, arcane, moreso than fire and less than frost in PVE in particular) are not "fine" in my opinion

Ехсept for the intention to change Spellsteal and not to change Evocation at all, there is nothing new in this Q&A. I'm disappointed by this since shamans post was much better. Ok, ok, there is not much to do with mages because "they are in a good place", but what is the point of the Q&A series then? One of CM (Vaneras I think) posted Ghostcrawler's quotes compilation about mages a couple of months ago in this forum - what we got now is a cut and slightly updated version.
One more thing that I can't understand is the Frost PvE changes they want to implement. It's the same direction as Retribution Paladin changes Blizzard is going to make. But the paladin changes are not what developers could potentioally do - they could change the rotation using some debuffs and/or buffs system, but the changes are more cosmetic - lowering cooldowns, lowering damage, making Exorcism a spell with cast time... The point is that Paladin rotation will still be simple althought less bursty (?).
Come on, Blizz, you can do better! Just look at all the DoT proc and pet hit proc talents you've implemented! They are interesting! The +2% of damage, x4 of damage are not so much. They are vanilla. Outdated. Uncreative. Booooring.
The mage Frost talent tree changes could be done with some new buffs/debuffs system. If the taget is hit by spells for a long period of time (boss case), many stacks are present, Ice Lance is more powerful. Call it Frostburn or something, make a application on frost spells hit, ~4-6 sec internal cooldown between applications and not very long duration. I know there's much more interesting ways to improve PvE damage not buffing PvP much. But not paladin way... Pretty pweese...

The huge specific questions of fire pvp and forst pve were basically washed over as "maybe later its not really important".
The mana promlems and so called "out dated mechanics" of evo and gems will be fixed with lowering the cost of our main nukes.... (*&)%&(($*^)!
What makes us unique - long cast time nukes, well er great it feels really nice to be unique due to some clunky long cast time spells that restrict movement great.
Bascially i got a "in general your fine and we cant be bother to fix the little things" and "you are not a priority".
Well i feel it was a waste of time writing the Q and A post we learnt basically nothign except the devs dont really understand the problems despite them being shoved in their face basically in the q and a. We are fine and they are going to do nothing to change the mage class.
"2v2 has been removed therefore it no longer matters if the mage sucks there" great.
My only chance in arena is gone, my favorite bg (warsong gulch) is now obliterated, there is no interesting stuff or fixes coming to my class... It seems its time to leave blizz. gg
