0. [Guide] Power Auras - Warlock Style 23/04/2009 18:46:33 PDT
This is a short basic "guide" I've decided to put together since there's been a few people asking for a nice way to notice when you've got the Decimation buff, keeping track of what dot that's missing, etc.
Power Auras is an addon that allows you to put textures wherever you want on your screen, and have them react to certain buffs or debuffs. Or just keep them as decoration if that's what you want. I'm not the one who made the addon, but I totally love it.
I find it especially useful when trying out a spec you've never used before, or learning a new boss encounter where you have to keep an extra eye out for things.
You can download it here: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/powerauras-classic.aspx
Unzip/Unrar the files & place them in your Addons folder.
When ingame, type /powa and the first interface will open up.
You can whenever you want press the button for the aura in the main interface to show what it would look like for you.
If you want to disable an aura, hold down Shift and click it. "OFF" will be shown on top of it, just do the same thing to activate it again.
Press New and follow these different steps depending on what you want it to do for you.
• Show when a dot is missing:
In my opinion a Text Aura is the best choice for this. Lets use Corruption for this.
1: Check the "Text Aura" box & type "Corruption" in the field that open up below the box. Make sure you press enter afterwards. If you want to choose a different font press [T] and pick one.
2: Proceed down to Activation and set the "Activation by:" menu to "Debuff".
3: Replace the "???" with "Corruption", without the quote marks of course.
4: Check "Exact Name", "Ignore Uppercase", "Casted by me", "Show when not active", "Only if in combat" & "Enemy Target".
5: After this you want to press the Aura for it to activate and the decide the size & position with the "Size" & "Position X & Y" bars.
Close it all down, then go ahead & test it out on a dummy. Cast Searing Pain first to get in combat. The Corruption text should now show up where you placed it. Proceed with casting Corruption and watch the text disappear. Stay in combat and let it fall off, and the text should now be visible again. Only thing you have to do now is to repeat the above steps with whatever debuffs you want.
This method has been a bit troublesome for me when there's more than 1 Warlock in the raid/group keeping the same debuffs at the target. Probably has something to do with the "Casted by me" choice not working properly. Anyhow, it's very useful in combination with f.x. DoTimer.
• Show when you have a certain buff:
I use a normal Texture here, "WoW Textures" checked.
Decimation is the buff most desired here I assume, so lets use that one.
Choose the Texture you want.
Set "Activation By:" to "Buff".
Replace "???" with "Decimation"
Check "Exact Name", "Ignore Uppercase" & "Casted by me".
Then do the same as step 5 describes above.
Close down the interface, and go out & hit a mob at or below 35% hp with a Shadow Bolt or Incinerate. If you've done it all right, you get the buff & the aura shows up on your screen.
• Show when you don't have a certain buff:
I use a normal texture here aswell, once again "WoW Textures" checked.
The buff I find this one most useful for is the Life Tap Glyph proc.
Choose the Texture you want.
Set "Activation by:" to "Buff".
Replace the "???" with "Life Tap", the buff you get is called just that, Life Tap.
Check "Exact Name", "Ignore Uppercase", "Casted by me", "Show when not active" & "Only if in combat".
Repeat the above step 5.
Find a way to put yourself in combat(gank a happy victim?), and as long as you don't have the buff, the aura will be there.
I'll add a few more things when I've got the time, meanwhile I hope atleast some of you find this useful.
Warlocks on the sideline,
Puzzled and amused.
Why did Gul'dan give these mages free will?
Now they're all confused.
Q u o t e: i excessively use this addon, and it clutters my screen. Just wanted to know if theres a way to hide everything for a guild screenshot for exemple, without needing to delog and deactivate addon.
Wrote that above aswell ^^

This addon is awesome. I'm not great with configuring it tho. Waiting for more examples of how people use it so I can get ideas like the nightfall proc! The Life Tap aura sucks when I'm on PvP spec sadly. I have to turn it off/on all the time :P
