Its the same reason that some countries are not allowed into the RAF scheme.

Your countries marketing laws prevent thats kind of offer.

Although as the Arena Tournament is a pay to enter contest, it cpould be that as well

Seeing as you want a Blue response, reas post 2 in this thread:

do you guys live here to know what laws exist or don't exist??
for you its easy to say "yeah you can't play, live with it" because you guys live in one of those countries.. "you don't care!"

well, if you don't care i'm ok with with, still you have no knowlege of my countries law to tell me there is a marketing law that doesnt allow me to play in this tournament.. BECAUSE THERE IS NONE!!!

i will try another aproach. here is the list of allowed countries:
FINLAND, FRANCE, GERMANY, AUSTRIA, SPAIN, THE UNITED KINGDOM, IRELAND, THE GRAND DUCHY OF LUXEMBOURG, NORWAY, SWEDEN, BELGIUM, RUSSIA, ITALY AND SWITZERLAND

here are some of the not allowed:
portugal, denmark, netherlands, greece, serbia, ukraine, trukey, iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Albania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia (and some others)

think for 5 seconds... the more important, more powerfull and probably with more players countries are all in the first list..

do you still think its because of laws?? i don't, but i still dont know why and i want to know it!

edit: this is the blue post:
* Requirement to have purchased a copy of a game and/or pay a monthly fee to participate

* Limits on the monetary value of the prize offered

* Requirement that a contest sponsor (Blizzard, in this case) have a company presence within the borders of the country, state, or territory in which the participants reside

1-> i have all that
2-> no limits
3-> no such law

fail blue post!
country is portugal btw

yes it is because of laws... u actually think they would play darts on the maps of europe bacause they need some countries where they can't hold the tournament.

even so i do not live in one of those country's so i can't link any of it's laws tto you... but with a little research you can find it your own now stop being lazy and look it up yourself

Some countries have laws against online tournaments / gamblings / games that involves that you can win real money. since its not a part of the govermental gambling assosiacion in those countries.

its sad that there are people that used to exploit ways like winning money from gambling and such online that led to that they earned black money ( tax free money ).

Unless you call blizzard for an alternative sulotion (hopefully it could work ) then you can't participate.

:(

Fear not, for i am trained to rescue idiots.

Yes we know your laws, because so many people made this point last season. Its not new, your not the first person so stop thinking we are just talking bull!%@! to wind you up.

Its a legal thing, alot of countries have anti gambling laws. This isnt gambling your saying? Yes, personally I agree, its not. But what is gambling? Putting down money with a chance, to win a prize/cash. Which is exactly what this tournament is.

ITS YOUR COUNTRIES ANTI GAMBLING LAWS. and blizzard dont want to get into the ins and outs of lawsuits with all that crap tbh. Sorry mate, i feel for u but its not going to happen.

Wrong.

The Danish Gaming Authority (Spillemyndigheten I think?) has ruled that the Arena Tournament is classed as a "game of chance" rather than a "game of skill". Under current Income & Taxation legislation, any "game of chance" ("hasardspill" is the term used, "game of chance" is just the closest thing I could find) which provides a large sum as a prize is forbidden.

Ok, so it's a combination of two different laws, but still there. Good luck with your "facts". :)

Every person who signs up for the Tournament has to pay 15€, Blizzard would not deny so many countries to participate unless it was illegal for the country to to play lol. Just think about how much money they lose by doing that.

In Danish law there are no mentioning of World of Warcraft tournaments. There are however rules about lotteries, gambling, tournaments etc. to help protect consumers against fraud and scams.

Many European countries have these kinds of laws, and as i see it Blizzard are trying to dodge these by hand picking the laws they like the most. Yes they are playing darts in Europe.

It is not a few countries that can not participate, it is actually the majority.

So no - national law does not prevent most of Europe to participate, Blizzard's tournament rules does.

Why turn a computer game into a professional sport? Why not just a relaxed competition with some prizes and fees that wouldn't clash with legal concerns.

A blue poster said something like, "we dont gamble with law", no you just make your own laws out of convenience.

Do you really think Blizzard would leave countries out of the tournament if they didn't have to or weren't afraid of lawsuits? Blizzard is a money making corporation, it would BENEFIT them to have as many countries in the arena tournament as possible because they would earn more money on people registering.

So, no, of course they're not just inventing rules to prevent countries from participating just for the fun of it.
