Welcome to our new Latency Report Submission Thread. These allow us to track and report ongoing latency issues for further investigation.

All the information provided in the last post has been forwarded to the our network team for any ongoing investigations

You can still find the old sticky post here, though it has now been locked and un-stickied:
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=7666416891&sid=1

Please post the information below in this thread if you experience latency problems this week.

NOTE: Only post the information that is requested in this thread, we will remove any posts that do not supply ALL the requested information, as well as any posts containing commentary etc..

The first step of any investigation is to make sure there that your internet security is correctly configured to work with World of Warcraft. The following article may offer some possible fixes:
http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=19459

You can find more information regarding connectivity problems, and a better definition of latency and what to look for in a trace route, in our FAQ:
http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=19677

Also make sure you are using NO add-ons, as these are not supported by Blizzard and some of them are known to cause latency problems.

Locate your World of Warcraft installation folder and delete the WTF, Cache and Interface folders.

If the high latency is still occurring, running a trace route can identify the source of the issue. The trace route program tests the connection from your computer to the target location you specify and every "hop" in between. Using this program you can determine at what location the data you are sending is running into a problem.

Steps for Windows XP:
(click on the following article for Vista & Mac OS X steps: http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=18888)

We will need the information generated from the following commands:

When you are playing the game, press Alt Tab, You may want to switch to windowed mode to make it easier to get back to the desktop.

- Click the Start button and select the Run option from the menu
- Type in cmd in the command text box then press Enter.
- Type the following into the command window that appears: netstat -n -p tcp -b | more
you will see a line like this one (depending on World Of Warcraft):

TCP XXX.XX.XX.XX:XXXX YY.YYY.YYY.YY:3724 ESTABLISHED 4476 [WoW.exe]

The IP address that is indicated by Xs is your IP address, this is not needed, so do not post this.

The information that is important however is the one indicated by Y's on the example above, this is the IP address of the server you are playing on.

Now we need some information on your connection, in the same command window, type in:

tracert YY.YYY.YYY.YY > C:\tracert.txt

A file will be created on your local drive (C:\) called tracert.txt which will contain the trace route information, this may take some time so do not close down the window once the trace is complete the > prompt will appear again.

Please copy and paste the contents of the tracert file into this post along with the following information:

- The Date and Time that you created the tracert file:
- Your town and Country:
- The hour and date when you experience the problems the most:
- When did this problem start:
- Realm played:
- Internet Service Provider:
- How fast is your internet connection? :
- The in game latency bar reading
- Modem model:
- Network card model if one is used:
- Router model (if used):
- Firewall Software (if used):
- Do you share your connection?
- Connection used, (USB, Ethernet or Wifi):
- Could you please try to create characters on Karazhan, Kor'gall and Spinebreaker to test if the latency persists on these realms?
- Your characters location on the realm (which zone you are in)
- Name of the instance (in the case that you are in an instance)
- What exactly happens? (Make sure to describe this as well as you can):

You are more than welcome to post more than one traceroute, just indicate the different times you are performing the traceroute as it could better identify any problems.

Please note that in some cases we may be limited in the support we are able to offer. You may need to speak to your provider directly if the routing to your realm is inadequate. More information concerning how to read and understand your trace route can be found here:

NOTE: Please only post all the information that is requested, this is very important as it helps us to compile a report that we can then forward onto our network team.

We reserve the right to remove any posts that do not provide all the information requested, as well as any commentary that is not appropriate to the purpose of this thread.

- The Date and Time that you created the tracert file:
22/1/09 at 21:05pm GMT+1

- Your town and Country:
Sliema, Malta

- The hour and date when you experience the problems the most:
Any hour of the day, really

- When did this problem start:
About 5 days ago, 17/1/09 , never experienced these problems before.

- Realm played:
Ahn'Qiraj

- Internet Service Provider:
Onvol (Melita)

- How fast is your internet connection? :
2mb/s

- The in game latency bar reading
400 - 600, but it often goes upwards of 800, and sometimes all the way up to 2000. Before these problems started 5 days ago, I would never get above 265ms

- Modem model:
Scientific Atlanta EPC2203 Cable Modem

- Network card model if one is used:
Not sure about these. Know I have a realtek card / card driver in my laptop (I play on a laptop)

- Router model (if used):
Dont use a router.

- Firewall Software (if used):
Windows Firewall

- Do you share your connection?
No

- Connection used, (USB, Ethernet or Wifi):
USB

- Could you please try to create characters on Karazhan, Kor'gall and Spinebreaker to test if the latency persists on these realms?
Exactly the same. Sometimes I do get good latency on them for extended periods of time though, which is strange.

- Your characters location on the realm (which zone you are in)
Dalaran / Wherever in northrend. Latency immediately becomes normal the second I enter a BG like WSG or SoTA... It seems okayish in Orgrimmar 280 - 320, but that is still much higher than usual. Someimes it goes up to 450 anyway in Orgrimmar too.

- Name of the instance (in the case that you are in an instance)
N/A

- What exactly happens? (Make sure to describe this as well as you can):
Just started having high latencies as the norm, so spikes or sudden DCs. Just high latency and unplayable lag instead of the usual smooth gameplay and low latency. I have fully scanned my PC for viruses by upated software, and I have nothing infected. I am in contact with my ISP and they are trying to solve the problem, but they cant seem to find anything wrong on their end. (So far)

Yes checked: Karazhan 900, Kargall 1040, Spinebreaker 950
- Your characters location on the realm (which zone you are in)
In the zone Dragonblight. outside naxxramas, and inside got the same results.
- Name of the instance (in the case that you are in an instance)
Did the tracert when was inside Naxxramas
- What exactly happens? (Make sure to describe this as well as you can):
Well the big problem is that for some reason i have incredibly high ping what leads to dissconects during boss encounters and sometimes even on trash. We noticed that this happens to ppl who have high pings get thrown out of the server while boss encounters and cannot log on untill the boss fight is done. This is happening with about 3-4 ppl with the highest ping in the raid (100% sure in that, we done a lot of raids and its almost always happening). from the tracert file i can understand that the problem isnt with my internet provider, really hope you can help me out here.

Kor'Gall first test: 52ms. seemed ok
Spinebreaker first test: 200ms. Too high for my connection.
Then i logged into my own realm:
Agamaggan: 3000+ ms
Then i got disconnected and tried the others again:
Couldn't connect to anyone!
It seems the problem affects all servers.
All these tests around 20:00 today.

- Your characters location on the realm (which zone you are in)
Zul'drak

- What exactly happens? (Make sure to describe this as well as you can):
Suddenly the game freezes and it
a) disconnects me
b) i continu in game with 3000+ latency

Currenlty when i log i disconnect in about 5 minutes. First few minutes i have okiesh latency (around 200, which is still high for my connection) and the it rises to 3000+ and disconnects me.

10 * * * Time-out bij opdracht.

- tracert run january 24th @ 18:35hrs CET.
- from Wageningen, Netherlands
- encountered at unpredictable intervals, mostly around peak time, but has also occurred around 4 am.
- started last wednesday (jan. 20th, patch 3.0.8.)
- Realm played: Dragonmaw
- Internet Service Provider: Concepts ICT DSL
- Connection speed: ~800 KByte/sec
- The in game latency bar reading averages 300-450 and peaks at 3500
- Modem model: unknown
- Network card model: Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
- Router model: Linksys WRT54G
- Firewall Software: Windows Firewall
- Do you share your connection?: Yes, but not at the time of testing.
- Connection used: Ethernet
- Could you please try to create characters on Karazhan, Kor'gall and Spinebreaker to test if the latency persists on these realms? I was barely able to create a character on Kor'gall, the lag is there too. Karazhan and Spinebreaker seemed to be ok, but so does my own server occasionally. NB: just revisited Karazhan, and it has the same issues.
- Your characters location on the realm : Issues ocurred in every zone i've been to so far, including Naxxramas, Wintergrasp, Dalaran, Vault of Archavon, Culling of Stratholme, Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, etc.
- Name of the instance: see above
- What exactly happens? First, my connection get "choppy", like having a trio of bad lag spikes in succession. Then the connection drops entirely, and i'm disconnected from server. The weirdest part comes next! I quit WoW, and restart, try to log in again. Status display hangs at "Success!" or "Retrieving realm list". I click cancel, and get the realm list select my own, and see the same message.
After the character list is finally loaded (which takes a LONG time), i log in on whatever character just wiped the group, watch the loading bar fill up, and then get disconnected AGAIN.
Start over from the start, and repeat twice.
After this repeating, i sometimes manage to get back into the game, only to see all players and NPC's marked "Unknown" for a minute, until everything either loads, or i get disconnected again.
All of the above issues occur intermixed with each other for about an hour at a time, after which the game usually works again for an hour and a half or so.
Interestingly, this forum and all other wow-europe.com websites are affected by a lag that feels very similar. However, every single other website i've tried works flawlessly, as do other online games.

edit: i just noticed an obvious similarity between the above poster and myself.

10. Mcafee firewall though problem still persists when disabled
11. I share connection with another PC but I still suffer poor latency when not in use
12. USB adaptor WiFi
13. All servers shown poor latency of 450ms on ragnaros 1000ms on Agamaggan and Silvermoon
14. My main character which I play on 95% of the time I play wow is in Zul Drak, Northend
15. I’ve experienced this lag for along time about 5 months.
16. I will log in fine and after 10 - 30 minutes of playtime with my MS at 25 - 50 it will creep up into triple figures and reach about 500+ I have also noticed when I Im ‘idle’ and my character is not moving my latency will go up even faster.

- The Date and Time that you created the tracert file: 25.01.2009 14.37

- When did this problem start: Patch Day. Though i have to assume it's mere coincidence since others have this issue for 2 months now.
- Realm played: Argent Dawn
- Internet Service Provider: Chello
- How fast is your internet connection? : 16384 kbit/s, 1024 kbit/s

- Could you please try to create characters on Karazhan, Kor'gall and Spinebreaker to test if the latency persists on these realms? Done and yes. Tracerts for all below
- Your characters location on the realm (which zone you are in) I think Storm Peaks. Not that it matters since the same happens in Silithus or Westfall
- Name of the instance (in the case that you are in an instance) ---
- What exactly happens? (Make sure to describe this as well as you can): A few minutes after logging in i get hit by a lag spike lasting atleast 10 seconds followed by a disconnect. When i do survive a spike the ingame latency rises to 4000-8500 and it's just a matter of time before the next spike comes and kicks me. Latency after logging shows 70+ ms ... however the felt latency is arounf 500-750+ ms.

Edit: I might add that this is the 4th or 5th time in 4 years that routing issues with telia cause this lag issue. It has happened before and it got fixed after some time.

Though the "some time" previously lasted only a couple of days max for me, right now i don't think i can hope for a fix any time soon considering this issue has been reported since early december now.

I'm aware that the routing to the game server is not within your responsibility so all i can do is kindly ask:

Please help us.

Edit2: I'm logged in right now , in game latency bar shows 133-239ms latency and part from small 1-2 seconds lag spikes it seems to be stable.
However a tracert to the game server still times out after prs-tc-i1-link-telia.net [80.91.250.30].

Edit (19:40): I've checked my other characters at different realms - the problem appears only at The Venture co. (the server I want to play :/).
Now I can't even log in at the server ... it's just disconnected me all the time.

Edit 2: 26.01.2009 - the same problem as yesterday, and day before yestarday... I can't play from 19 p.m. only at The Venture co., latency 8k + and disconnecting. Other servers work good ... I've chenged my IP adress and it didn't work :/ Please fix it, becouse I can't play at all.

/greetings

SUBMISSION 2
I already had this kind of problems for 2 weeks this year, after that it seemed that the problem was eliminated and connection normalized, today it started again, here is the filled form:

- The Date and Time that you created the tracert file:
23.01.2009, time of creation 21.26 server time
- Your town and Country:
Moscow, Russia
- The hour and date when you experience the problems the most:
everyday, 4pm - 11pm, server time
- When did this problem start:
25.1.2009
- Realm played:
Sunstrider
- Internet Service Provider:
Imsys (www.imsys.ru)
- How fast is your internet connection? :
100mbit
- The in game latency bar reading
1080ms
- Modem model:
none
- Network card model if one is used:
Intel(R) PRO/100+
- Router model (if used):
no idea, sorry
- Firewall Software (if used):
Outpost PRO installed and configured
- Do you share your connection?
i dont
- Connection used, (USB, Ethernet or Wifi):
Ethernet
- Could you please try to create characters on Karazhan, Kor'gall and Spinebreaker to test if the latency persists on these realms?

spinebreaker - stabilizes from 300-400 to 200ms after a minute
karazhan - 110-120 ms
kor'gall - 240-250 at start, raised to 400 after a minute

- Your characters location on the realm (which zone you are in)
most active characters are in:
Dalaran, Ogrimmar, Undercity
- Name of the instance (in the case that you are in an instance)
tracert was not taken inside an instance

- What exactly happens? (Make sure to describe this as well as you can): constant latency jumps, that lead to lags and sloppy performance.
occasional disconnects. game is unplayable atm.
