Hi everybody :-)

Here is a small Q&A consisting of a few Warlock related questions that have been answered by the developers. Some of you may have read this Q&A already somewhere else, but in case you have not, you can find it below:

Q. are all the locks tree's getting overhauled or just the demon tree?
A.We are reluctant to use the word "overhaul" because that sets up an expectation for some players that is difficult to meet. We are changing some talents and spells in all 3 trees.

Q. like new pets for locks plz?? its been a long time some reg summons maybe switching 41 point to infernal and making fg a reg summon? we have no reg summons for 60 ,70 and 80 we need to keep up with other classes and lets make the game more fun for the people playing years
A. Additional demons are something we would like to do at some point, but first we want to get all the current demons useful. Hunters have a lot more flexibility in which pet they pick. Locks need certain demons for certain jobs and we're not convinced yet that they are all there (particularly that female one).

Q. can we get a perma meta with a few nerfs for the QQers or will we have something new ?
A. We think we have enough instances of characters turning into other forms already.

Q. faster dots? or cutting the dot timers down to make it seem like burst damage ?
A.Adding some on-deamnd burst damage for locks is something we are looking at.

Q. maybe enslave demon being perma to kinda customize locks like the hunters ..im not asking to be as uber as hunters pets but we should almost match them since they are pet/burst class and we are pet/dot class
A.Hunter pets are supposed to be more like life-long companions while warlocks tend to use and discard their demons as necessary. So we aren't really going for that one to one comparison.

Does that mean locks get a new named pet each time they sacrafice the old one?

banned 25/09/08 to 08/10/08 for saying Hunters were viable in the arena.

Imp: Pve pet. If you are not demonology, imp is best pet for both - raids and dungeons.
Felhunter: Affliction and destruction pvp pet.
Succubus: Destro pvp pet.
Voidwalker: Tank. Simple as that. He is useful when you are soloing group quests or something. Was rly useful to me to solo zg tiger boss today. yey =)

We rly need like atleast 1 or 2 new demon pets. We have same pets since pre-tbc.

edit: PLS let us give name to our pet. Voyal, Hakkun, Grimnar, Volrot... that just sux =)

I love infernal in bg-s and world pvp. but I would like new demons instead of changing the ones we have now.

and yea.. it would be good to have infernal as normal pet (hate when he dissapear). and give him some abilities...

I'd love if we could do like DKs and shorten the length or the CD on infernal and Doomguard on skill usage.

It's rather frustrating that you use the DG on a boss try and it's a wipe and *poof* 1h cooldown.

I have to say I really-really disagree with that. So far, most hunters I know have at least 2-3 different pets and switch between them at will. Are able to change and rename their ''life-long'' companion, where Warlocks start with the same Imp, that looks the same, has the same name, and even sounds the same since we got them.

Somehow, Imp's are more likely life-long companions then the hunter pets are, as I still have had no way to discard him/her.

And well alright, we treat them less kind then hunters do.... Or do we? Last time I recalled Hunters using their pets to pull stuff, or Feigning Death while their ''life-long'' companion got beaten up by mobs or bosses.

At least Warlocks allow their minions to return to wherever they came from when we die.

Pfft.

I have no idea what to write, help meeeeee!

I really hope the devs have been reading some of our threads (as opposed to damn American boards, who seem to be utterly bankrupt in terms of ideas) and implement some of the genuinely good ideas and points that have been raised.

Vaneras thanks for the update. It's nice to see some feedback from blizzard on our class.

Can I be so bold to ask if Soul Link would ever be considered as a trainable talent. It doesn't have to be 20% dmg reduction, perhaps the extra reduction could come from the demon tree itself. it's just that SL is in reality a requirement for PVP. We get reduced to gibs without it.

Maybe the multi respec tree that is coming out will resolve this as everyone can instantly spec it when they want to pvp, but is that really a solution?

Sorry Vaney, no offense intended, but this has gotta be the biggest load of b*** ever..and even the devs should see this.

Demon form has been "planned for us" since day 1 of WoW... and when it finaly reaches live servers it's not only the most broken end tier talent in game. It "suggests" features wich can't even work on temporary base (aoe taunt!? ac improvement!? what were the devs thinking?)

Now you guys hold back on an "ok" solution for the shortage of tanks for instances, simply 'cause of looks? .. like wait... With all the clown-gear in game, all the 'fun' polymorph items/spells/abilities, a handfull of demons running around would change the game massively!?

How about some survivability and panic buttons, eh? I find myself standing around like a dummy not being able to do anything very often in arenas. Healers LoS'ing/avoiding/dispelling fear, meele's slowing/silencing me makes me very unusefull. And my damage on two targets using dots is NOT higher then that of a meele/other caster (who has escape tools and burst) who only needs to focus on one target.

That would be a succubus.

You didn't get hacked, you got keylogged. Getting hacked implies intelligence from the side of the attacker, getting keylogged implies a lack thereof from the side of the victim.

Those aren't the questions we asked. I believe the self banish suggestion was asked about ALOT. But obviously the devs that play rogue still want one shots.

Agreed. Yes, there are other classes that turn into something else, and so do we. I don't think it would make much difference in terms of looks...you always see locks in demon form here and there, and it would be a really useful buff. As for "enough classes changing into something else", I can use pirate costumes noggen fogger, etc whenever I want...

I hope there will be at least some consideration of making higher level pets more generally useful on a day-to-day basis. I should say that I'm a solo player and group only rarely - and that I don't PvP. My experience has been that I used the two pets I had at level 10 99% of the time until level 64. And most of the time I was using the phased imp as a mana battery with Dark Pact, so not even really using it as a pet or using its abilities much at all.

I finally switched spec to Felguard at 64, despite preffering to stay as an affliction lock, because it was the only way for me to get a reliable new pet - and I really wanted to enjoy playing a pet profession again. This was the only way for me to get that play of interaction with my pets again. I won't have another new reliable pet again even when I reach level 80... so I will have levelled to 80 using the pets I had at level 10 and the Felguard.

Here's how my experience has been, so you understand how I feel:

I levelled until 64 as an affliction lock. I mainly used VW until I had dark pact an then drain tanked with the imp from then on. Very, very occasionally I'd use the VW when I knew I had to deal with a large group of nasty mobs.

For me, Succubus was only very situationally useful, when there was a high chance of humanoid adds which she could help deal with. In most levelling situations as an affliction lock though, taking one add out with seduce wasn't really necessary when I could be dotting them up and killing them.

Felhunter was a pet I don't believe I ever actually used in anger. In theory, I might have used it against spell-casting mobs, but for my uses that wasn't particularly important. I'm told that it's useful as a PvP pet, but as I said, I don't PvP.

The one minute Infernal was only really rarely used - because of limited duration and removal of existing pet. Also, given its cooldown, my day to day levelling play wasn't worth using him. Very occasionally on a group quest boss mob he was useful.

The CoD Domguard was only very occasionally useful against a big boss mob in a group quest... and usually gets me killed many times by breaking enslavement before I'd eventually get the mob killed (even after 3.0.8 since when the chance of break seems to have reduced a bit).

The Ritual of Doom Doomguard is useless to me as a soloist of course. Needing a full team of 5 makes it impractical.

Essentially then, I'd levelled from level 30 onwards, not even using a pet as a pet... instead I used the imp as a mana battery. And the pets I use in my every day play were the ones I had at level 10. This despite the fact that at heart, the warlock is a pet profession.

In the end, I switched specs at 64 just to get the Felguard and am really enjoying playing a proper pet profession again, being able to interact with the pet, bounce aggro, utilise pet special abilities etc to enhance my play.

But as the Warlock is indeed a pet profession at heart, it's really not good that players have to wait until level 50 and lock into a specific spec in order to get a reliable, useful pet for their normal, day to day play.... and even then they won't get another reliable useful pet for their day to day play in the next 30 levels.

There's just not really a true sense of Warlock being a pet profession, when all the higher level pets lack usefulness. On a day to day basis, many of us are using the pets we had at level 10 or felt we were forced to respec to Felguard - in which case we still have 30 levels of no more practical day to day pets.

also...regarding demons...

Just face it, in the "pet-race" hunters have the upper hand + they got alot of features added. (an own talent tree ffs!)

While our pets.. sure some buffs... but well that's about the same lovin the warlock class itself got... near to none. Actualy both the lock and her pets got a huge kick in the teeth. Face it: who here summons the imp 'to buff the raid'? .. oh wait? did warrior shout just override your bloodpact!? same for felhunter....in the end... all our petbuffs are rendered useless!

Now the pets are just there for only the lock..and faulty at best.

Suggestion: quit being so stuck up... and don't try to give our pets unique features.. 'cause you simply fail at it (proof: the lock has been broken for how long now?)

This brings us to a fork in the road:
- Our original demons with some customization? (talent tree?)
- Allow us to pick our own demon? Perhaps add some unique material component per demon (like with doomguard/infernal) you want.

Oh and if you really want to make the Warlock a class that uses 'situational' pets like Infernal or Doomguard for specific uses... then it would be better to have those situational pets as secondary to our main pets. That is... give us good day-to-day main pets and add the situational pets on top - rather than having to sacrifice our main pet for a given situation.

That would basically just be druids then? Give them 2-min cat/tree/bird/bear-form and we'll see if it's reasonable.

goddamnit!!!

Permanent meta impossible because there are already other classes with permanent transformations? no, no, no, no, no, please don't think about it that way! We need it! It's the only way to resist melee strikes! Metamorphosis as it is now is almost useless!

About the pets reprogramming, we need one that can be able to stop, or at least slow the melee classes! A little buff to succubus is not really a good solution!

I doubt on the fact you are really considering seriously our problems in pvp.

I like the French language. Especially to curse with. Nom de dieu de putain de bordel de merde de saloperie de connard d'enculé de ta mère. It's like wiping your arse with silk. I love it.
