As far as i can tell there is no bear form tanking idol currently in WotLK...

surely during development blizz thought of implementing a new idol for tanking druids, currently im still using the 60 badge TBC level 70 idol as the 65 agility is the best possible buff i can get from using an idol currently.

Whats everyone else using for a tanking idol atm?

well given the current 'problems' druids have with aoe this idol cant hurt, more dmg = more threat on our 2 moves that hit more than one target.

however im sticking with the lvl70 badge idol for a while longer it seems

With threat being a non issue atm, Idol of Terror is still the only Idol remotely useful for Bear Druids. It's still the only Idol that grants avoidance.

Tatt: 80 Tauren Feral Druid
Rohendar: 70 Orc Resto Shaman
Tryson: 70 Blood Elf Ret Paladin
Oyi: 70 Blood Elf Fire Mage
Tuhon: 70 Troll BM Hunter

i don't know why all this hate against ravenous beast, i used the stratho idol for the whole tbc, i surely like this new one a lot, 65 agi = almost no avoidance nowadays after diminish returns.

extra damage = faster kills :P, plus the tasty QQ tears from dps in heroics, epsecially the dmgmeter freak ones in pugs, nothing better for shutting them up than doing more dps than them >_>

The first rule of tanking or healing is to assume the dps is braindead. (©Toranshalur)

Actually it is not the only one.

Here is the lesser (WotLK) version of Idol of Terror. Great for new druid and for all others who don't have Idol of Terror.

You need a huge lot of dodge before you really get affected by diminishing returns. 65 is on average 1,5% dodge.

its easy to go way up the damage meters in bear form, especially in PUGS, howeveer asa tank survivability in a long fight, such as some of the naxx fights is far more important than that extra 50 dps you get from a damage idol.

Hello fotm druids, get out of this thread.
The level 70 idol is almost useless, unless you're happy with something that will only be up once in a while.
The Idol of perspicacious attacks is definately the best current tanking idol, you will build significantly less threat without it, and you will need threat boost when your dps learns to play.
"BUT TANKS IDOL SHOULD B 1 THAT LOWERS DMG ON ME!!" - just the way you look at it imo, you can get avoidance from a lot of other things.

really? u think that idol will provide the difference in threat generation you need. I can already generate 4k tps in a raid, far more than any dps can do and im on par with any other tank in the raid, threat really isnt a problem when you hitting 2.5k mauls and 4k mangles. If your having trouble staying above your dps i suggest you L2P as its not hard at all. Simply hit mangle when off CD and lacerate when its on CD, that way you generate lots of angriness against you.

However, the 1.5% dodge which is up probably 50% of the time is much nicer than the extra 100 damage you might do with your idol, that would add a whole 50 tps to your threat generation, not the difference that a dpser Learning to play will get.

Read what he quoted again. The poster mentioned Idol of The Ravenous Beast which is a dps idol that increases Shred damage, aka a cat dps idol (bought for 15 badges at your local idol seller).
What he propably were supposed to write instead was Idol of Perspicacious Attacks, which is the idol that increases swipe and maul damage.
Personally i use Idol of Terror on boss fights, and Idol of Perspicacious Attacks for trash.

d'uh, i indeed meant the maul/swipe one, my bad^^

on diminish return : i'm already at 42% dodge raidbuffed, whinch is quite confortable, so far i've still to die form a nondodged attack, not even patchwerk whinch is probably the only encoutner so far where stacking avoidance might be the way to go.

Personally, if i'd ever change the swipe/maul idol it will be for something giving me stamina, mainly for these places where dodge matters nothing ( powered malygos breath= 36k, maexxna stun, whateverelse stun, sartharion breath with the fire add up = 32k ), you know.

But that's just me being a fan of WCS , i'm of the mitigation over avoidance school ^^

Everyone measures an items value based on it's behavior relative to the rest of their gear and their own beliefs of what stats they should be aiming for. Personally for me a permanent buff is better than 'chance on hit' even if it was going to be up 90% of the time.

While more damage and more threat may not be what you 'need', getting it from this item may free you up to select a better mitigation/survival piece in another slot.

Big picture guys, you are the sum of your parts.

A Bear tanking idol is indeed needed and we are therefore looking into getting one added to the game :-)
