As we have mentioned, we are discussing some exciting changes to how soul shards might work. This is not an announcement of an overhaul to that system, but it will make shard use slightly less painful.
When a warlock casts Ritual of Summoning, instead of creating a portal, they will summon a new creation similar to a dungeon meeting stone. It will cost one shard to create this item. Then, anyone in the warlock’s party or raid can use the “meeting stone” to summon other members of the group. For example, once the warlock summons the stone, then party members B and C could summon D without the warlock’s direct involvement, and most importantly without requiring additional shards. You will be able to bring the rest of a 25-person raid quickly (since you can summon folks simultaneously), for the cost of a single shard, and with less clicking on the part of the lock.
The “meeting stone” will last 5 minutes with a 5 minute cooldown. It will not be usable in areas where summoning is currently restricted, such as battlegrounds or in combat. Creating the stone still requires 2 people in addition to the warlock. Summoning actual party members only requires 2 people.
This change will be in for the next patch, which will occur before the 3.1 Ulduar content patch.

Three years too late (oh the joys of summoning stragglers from Orgrimmar to Kargath when there were no shard yielding mobs for two zones in any direction) but a welcome change none the less.

Thanks!

seriously.. summoning has never been a problem about the shards.. hell pre wotlk 32 slot bags 2x core felcloth bags np 48 shards to use.. the problem now since summoning is on the topic, is that you actuelly NEED 2 extra people to assist your summon. Sure mages tables got the same but they bring something everyone in the raid wants more or less so they never have problem getting their table up.

Name one warlock who hardcore raid doesnt have a macro saying smt like "-- summoning %t assist please --" and always have to ask ppl to assist pressing the stupid summoning portal.

Now we have to ask ppl to press the stupid cirkle again just so no one will summon more people from the "summoning" stone that we will produce. And us warlocks will sumon from this stone now and yet again spam macro for people to assist...

Why not just make a Warlock able to use it's enslaved creature to aid with a summon. so we dont have to rely on everyone else all the time and hammering macro for people to assist summon.

Shards-.. No problem whatsoever with them except they take up 1 bagspace / shard.. atleast make them stack x10 or something like that and that problem is over
2 stacks of shards and you dont have to farm more shards.

Does anyone of the devs actually play a warlock and know from experience what it's like or do you just generate everything on a computer that will say if it is ok or not.. (like our dps output is done.. 100% perfect rotation, buffs, debuffs etc) wich doesnt come near the real world of playing a warlock.

Nice to see that Blizz is working on the shard-problem.

But i agree with Xerrol. Summon ppl to raid isnt a big problem, not in my guild anyway. Ppl are on time, with pots and all that. At top i have to summon 1 or 2 slackers. Now i have to summon the "stone" and start to summon... Ok, nice i save a shard or two. But im destro, my "28 shard"-bag and my spells are the big problem. I have to grind 28 mobs before going to a raid, thats the problem. I hope that Blizz has more changes in pipeline for our shardproblem, if so, this is a nice and welcome change. But if not, this wont help us at all. But im not gonna QQ until i have seen what more Blizz have i mind. So thx for the change, and plz make more changes ;)

Awesome change, although I do have one small suggestion for it.

Make it a new spell please, not a change to the old one.

More often than not I'm just summoning one twat who's forgetton to stock up on reagents and runs out halfway through the raid.

Having to summon the stone first would just double the amount of times I need to spam "/y CLICK THE DAMN PORTAL ALREADY!"

Whilst you're at it, move the spawn point back out infront of the warlock, having mounted taurens spawn ontop of you is just iritating.

[edit] Before some dev has the bright idea to save a bit of time, do NOT make the spell summon an actual meeting stone as far looks go, new spell graphics please, or atleast some we don't see all the anyway.

Blizzard have got their priorities wrong. Managing shards and summoning people has never been a problem for me.

Id rather they fixed our broken pve dps which is utterly abysmal at the moment.

Come on, let's be happy for once. We got something nice, with no tradeoffs or downsides at all! Surely we should be glad this time? :<

Of course we are happy that Blizz is taking care of our problems..

Just that they did it wrong. This solution only helps people that raid, and as you can read above, barely even them. Summoning has never been a big issue for shard management.

As a destro pvper, I was sure something had been done to shadowburn and maybe soulfire as well. And don't say shadowburn is a finisher - or well, it is and i use it as such, but there are too many factors that can burn 10 soul shards in a single BG even if you don't use shards for ANYTHING but finishing with shadowburn. Resists, cheat death, panicbuttons, blahblah... And like me, I don't do pve.. all I do is pretty much BG (@70 and when i reach 80) and as destro it's quite impossible to actually farm them inside the BG, as your damaging relies on casting.

Nice job Blizz! Seriously! But there's more to be done, that's way more crucial...

I am not whining for the sake of whining but what the hell!

First they removed the use of 3 type of health stones now this:

We did not want to be able to summon whole raid at once. It was not even listen on wish list of warlock. We ask a good use of shards, instead they reduce the shard demand on raid summons so that warlock goes even deeper to the "one is enough" state to a raid.

/Golfclap

another fail.

I just hate this state where I will be invited to the raids "just" because I am part of the guild or just because I am a friend. I want to add a value to the raid but this state is a great fail...
