Why on 3-4 disks?

Because all the patches from 2.0 - 3.0.3 are also included, and since you have them already.. the installer just checks and fixes your gamefiles where needed..
WotLK data is already on your PC/Mac...

All you really need is to upgrade your account with the WotLK box key.

Nope, the majority of game data of northrend is not included on the patches. Therefore the data must come from the update discs. The game mechanics are for the most part implemented with the 3.02-3.03 patches, but the actual models and landscapes are not.

There are people that play this game from countries that wont have the expansion on the same day , but 5-6 days after the release date.

It would be nice if there was a downloadable version in the same date.

Will it be possible to upgrade ur account to WoTLK version at release day?
askin couse it will be quite hard to get euro version of WoTLK in russia and i don't like to be forced to transfer my account to russian version couse of it.

I really would like to know why it is so extremely difficult to provide a pre-download for the WotLK-Client?

First of all we had the TBC to WotLK Upgrad (3.0.1) which was released when the WotLK DVD went Gold. This also makes sense, since the patches that followed (3.0.2 and 3.0.3) will also apply to the "real" WotLK-Client with the lichking.mpq's and stuff in place.

So patch 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 summed up to like 1,57 GB of Data. Compared to the 3.0.1-beta-installer that are only like 700MB of additional data.

Wouldn't it had been the easiest way to just give everyone the full WotLK-Client with patch 3.0.1/2? I don't see there any problems, since distribution is through the blizzard-downloader which uses p2p to keep Blizzards bandwidht requirments "low".

Actually the DVD in the Box is just a piece of environmental pollution...

I know you guys "need" the retailers or at least you want to make them happy. Also releasing the game like preloading the client and pre-Upgrading your Account online would just result in server-madness on the release minute. So, the distribution "problem" is used to keep the load off the servers.

So my suggestions would be: Sell just the piece of paper with the upgrade code in a CD-Box through the normal retailer-network, and for convienience you also could include the DVD with the LichKing installer - but pleeeease release client BEFORE the 12th of Nov. so ppl aren't forced to trick with the beta client, swap wow.exe files and cause possible server stability issues...

i doubt distribution companyes will be very pleased if blizz decides to let us pay for the game on-line and download it, because that means a lot less profit for them. if you really want to play on the exact same day, just ask a guild memeber to buy you one and download it on-line (i'm pretty sure you can download it using non-official torrents) ...

tbh i dont care much about the download since you will be able to download pirated ISOs from the net anyway :D:P.

Like you can do it now with TBC.

There is no need to take the day off, or skive from school on the 13th.
You'll end up frustrated

no problem taking off the first 2-3 games. but if i order the game online since i am in a diffrent country it will take 1-2 weeks to arrive... so would like to be able to get a code directly from blizz and the download if possible..

Here's my doomsday scenario of what would happen if Blizzard doesn't make a download available.

People will get guild mates (from other country's) to buy the game for them, if they somehow doesn't have access to a store that sells it on the night of release.
These people will download a wotlk dvd iso from a torrent site to be able to play the game as fast as possible, so the guild mate will only have to give them the key on msn or whatever.
Someone will upload an infected torrent, stuffed with keylogger goodness, with the sole goal of stealing as many accounts as possible.
Blizzard account management and gm team will get overbooked with account restoration.
The world will end!

Well maybe not the last part, but I believe the rest to be true.

I could play well enough on the day TBC started (there were some problems of course) and I play on one of the most unstable server in Europe.
