It seems that the slippery slope to micro transactions are coming, I feared it would begin like this. it seems blizzard are no longer in control and Activsion are calling the shots, as this is just madness, another money sink, another thing we should not have to pay for that should be in game for free.

------------------------Jay Allen Brack was asked about indications from World of Warcraft game files that paid character customization may be coming to Blizzard's MMORPG. After seeming to avoid the question at first, he eventually confirmed that paid-for character customization is indeed in the works, though no further details are provided. ----------------------

While some of you will say that this is nothing, it is the beginning of in game payments for in game items, it will not be long before you can buy that epic mount with real cash and one day that epic sword that epic armour. World of warcraft, the three tier systems, basic, standard and premium game that you can pay for. This is how it starts and I know how it will end... blizzard have sold out and now they are going to make us buy it.

If blizz does introduce microtransactions which give you an advantage over people who don't pay, then that's it, I'm leaving.

This is not an idle threat

I left an mmo before because they introduced paying for gold. I'll do it again.

Although i doubt that this will be the "death of WoW", I do agree that this will change the game dramatically, and not for the better. I also think that if you can buy items and enhancements for your character, then you may as well just sell gold, which will just ruin the economy of the game (as I spend 50% of my in-game time trading, I can imagine that this will become less and less interesting).

Also, I believe that there should be a limit to how much Bliz should monetise this game. It is already the most financially successful game ever and should continue to be so for the next 5-6 years. Adding micro-payments may just start it's downslide too early and bring an end to the cash cow before its time.

Last i checked bliz this game is pay to play not free to play aka item shop. go down that path and you will be loosing a lot of customers and since i was a f2p player and finally decided to p2p to get an even playing field without having the rich kids get everything mummy and daddy buys them.

i don't support this idea kinda silly tbh and feels like you just wanna milk as much money as you can company's that get greedy go downhill fast.

Blizz will make a huge fortune of this if they introduce it. Imagine how many sons of the bigger Oil-"shejks" out there that play this game. They can pay millions just to get the gear that they want, and blizz just have to log their GM chars and give them the item of their choice.

Although this will ruin the game and the sport of it. So I will definately leave this game aswell if so.

If it is true.. well then I will cancel both my accounts. If this will be what it takes to min max everything this is apparently not the right game for me after all :-/

Being filthy-rich myself I'm obviously not too worried. In fact, I might just buy myself a GM character when they become available. I fancy being able to move other players, spawn huge mobs anywhere and fly around Azeroth on my invisible flying mount!

tbh it would be the end if you could buy top tier sets with real cash, i doubt they will go this far, i think its a bit premature to jump the gun, caus i think blizz would know if they did that sort of thing, they would instantly lose every serious player in the game and just be left with a couple hundred thousand noobs with too much cash.

if thats what there aiming for then so be it, eventually enough people will grow sick of the pay to epic system(if introduced) and will jump aboard another mmo that actually focuses on gameplay rather than cash cow.

crying that the end is coming before its even conceptualized in any meaningful matter makes your main a warlock, you will forever cry over nothing *cough* lifetap nerf *cough*

Alright a few things to say:

I'm against microtransactions for the best gear. The cool items. Etcetera.

BUT

I'm for race/gender/apperance/faction changes being purchasable.

All of these things are utterly minor. You can change worlds but not your skin tone? Some people this will bother and they will pointlessly reroll if they can face doing it all again or just continue being miserable. I think microtransactions are good here.

Welfare Epics? I'm actually FOR this if it would take a certain amount of time (1 month?) for the items to be delivered and require the right character level (no advance orders). There'd be less leeching.

Experience points? No but an xp buff (x3 is already allowed..)? I'm for that.

ALSO:

Micro Transactions should be accrued from simply having an active, well-played account.

The problem is that if this makes money, they will then look at what esle they can sell, and if the next thing makes money, they will then look at what esle they can sell... its a long road to hell, as all executives care about is how much money they can make out of us. its not this... its what it WILL lead to.

This.

However they may just classify gender/realm/RAF changes as microtransactions. There is no proof whatsoever that they will allow big things like gear and gold to be purchasable thru cash. And nor they should.

TBH I do think they know how the market works (they do have the world leading MMO after all) and they are not stupid to ruin it for themselves. The time is not right.

Theres an obvious logic to this: Greedy rich kids will get thier parents to buy any advantage however small.. Blizzard don't NEED to offer tier 10 via mailbox. They'd make just as much selling 'welfare' epics (Baseline starter gear). If you see what I mean?

I don't really agree on the race change though. I mean.. Racial abilities? Is everyone gonna turn into a gnome for escape artists?

This is just a way to earn even more money due people competing in arena. (like paying for the game, + 2 expansions+ monthly fee + arena tournament servers + character transfer + name change + (the best one) PAYING FOR A SECURITY ITEM FOR AN ACCOUNT THAT IS NOT EVEN YOURS ain't enough already.
