Ok this is an annoying problem.

I have an ATI X1950 PRO 512MB AGP Graphics card, and when ever I turn Multisampling to X4 I can't alt or tab because my whole PC will just lag like mad... Really bad like 1FPS, and this is annoying for me as I always played in windowed mode so I can use MSN/Firefox etc.

I found a way too fix this, just turn multisampling back to X1 and the problem will go away, however, if I go into the ATI CCC and force Anti Aliasing, the same thing will happen.

WoW looks so god damn ugly without X4 multi sampling.. I've tried various drivers...

This problem NEVER happened with my 7600GT Nvidia....

Blue, please try and tell me how too fix this problem... It's annoying !

Thanks.

Denic, please take the caps and the word 'blue' out of your thread title.

Have you tried updating your drivers?

What about putting it to 2x?

I am using the latest ATI drivers.

Putting it to anything over 1X will cause the bug to happen.

Hi,

Setting AA settings high will cause the card to perform a lot more, and shifting back to desktop will mean that all the focus that the game is using is been diverted back to the desktop and programs attributed. This is more a limitation of the Windows XP

Thanks for your reply Gelmkar.

However, it was fine my Nvidia 7600GT, and if I move my start menu bar across to my 2nd monitor and press the start button to open up the menu, WoW wont lag...

I still don't think people understand what I'm trying to explain.

When I turn multisampling on in (X4) World of warcraft and play in windowed mode, WoW will lag (1 fps) when I attempt to access my windows XP start menu bar. My FPS will go back to normal once I click back on world of warcraft.

If I turn multisampling off, the lag goes away when I try to access my start menu bar.

I've searched for ages and ages to see if there is anu fixes for this... I've even tried fiddling with the ATI settings... But it's just damn strange that multisampling kicks this bug off.....

Oh and, I know I'll get some replys saying 'keep multisampling off then'. But I shouldn't have to keep it off, and WoW looks ugly without it on.

I was using a 7600GT a few weeks ago, I had maximum multisampling and I had no problems what so ever !

I think it could be an ATI or WoW bug.... I've tried different versions of drivers.

I'm running dual display and this isn't the cause for it because I've disabled my dual display and I still get the lag when I access my start menu bar.

I'd love to know how to fix this... If anyone knows please please tell me !

I'll include a screenshot so it's easier for you to understand :

Thanks !

I have the same graphics card, PCI-Express, i dont have these problems. I alt tab alot (i admit i'm a thottbot junkie.) make sure your GFX drivers are up to date.

[EDIT] i play with everything up to the max and still get 70fps, so i have multisampling up too.

First off this problem might have gone away for you guys, since this is a year later. However about the XP meny thing in window mode, i'v had that problem before, same thing was whenever a tooltip in windows pops up on mouse over.

Now to the fixing part, after i experimented on windows xp own settings i found out that some Shadow under meny or somthing like that (cant remember the name i'm on vista now) Fixed the whole thing. or maby shadow under tooltip. Try that out if anyone have the same problem still today, hope that fix it. Did for me
