As I'm a bit of a completist when it comes to professions, I like to try and get all the available recipes in the game.
However a few are only available to one faction or the other. Fortunately, for most of these recipes there is a way to get them if you happen to be on the opposite faction.
So here is a quick guide on getting as many as you can.

Where I say put it on the neutral AH, this needs two separate accounts to work. You can't just level an opposing faction toon and put something on the neutral AH and then log your other toon and buy it. You need to recruit some help. Only use a trusted friend or guild mate.

Alchemy

Discolored Healing Potion.
It's a quest reward from a level 11 quest in Silverpine Forest. The quest is called "Wild Hearts" and is given by Rane Yorick (54,14).

How to acquire:
Level a Horde toon to 11 and do quest or find someone willing to do it for you. Post recipe on the neutral AH.
You will have to do a pre-quest called Lost Deathstalkers first.

Blacksmithing

Golden Scale Gauntlets.
It's a quest reward from a level 40 Blacksmithing quest in Stormwind City. The quest is called "The Origins of Smithing" and is given by Hank the Hammer.

How to acquire:
Level an Alliance toon to 40. Level Blacksmithing to 200 and then take quest. Put recipe on neutral AH, get a friend to buy it.
Realistically though, your going to have to find someone on the Alliance side who has Blacksmithing to 200 and doesn't mind giving up this recipe. The gloves themselves are trash, so only a collector would be bothered about not having the plans.

Ironforge Breastplate
Another Alliance only, Blacksmithing quest. Requires level 16 and 100 Blacksmithing. Quest is "Gearing Redridge" given by Tormus Deepforge in Ironforge.

How to acquire:
Repeat the same process used for the Golden Scale Gauntlets.

Barbaric Iron Breastplate
Horde only Blacksmithing quest. Level 32 and level 160 Blacksmithing. Quest is "Barbaric Battlements" given by Orokk Omosh in Orgrimmar.

How to acquire:
Reverse the process used for Golden Scale Gauntlets.

Barbaric Iron Shoulders
Horde only Blacksmithing quest. Level 32 and level 160 Blacksmithing. Quest is "On Iron Pauldrons" given by Orokk Omosh in Orgrimmar.

How to acquire:
Use the same process you used for Barbaric Iron Breastplate.

Barbaric Iron Boots
Horde only Blacksmithing quest. Level 36 and level 180 Blacksmithing. Quest is "Trampled Under Foot" given by Orokk Omosh in Orgrimmar.

How to acquire:
Use the same process you used for Barbaric Iron Breastplate.

Barbaric Iron Helm
Horde only Blacksmithing quest. Level 36 and level 175 Blacksmithing. Quest is "Horns of Frenzy" given by Orokk Omosh in Orgrimmar.

How to acquire:
Use the same process you used for Barbaric Iron Breastplate.

Barbaric Iron Gloves
Horde only Blacksmithing quest. Level 36 and level 185 Blacksmithing. Quest is "Joys of Omosh" given by Orokk Omosh in Orgrimmar.

How to acquire:
Use the same process you used for Barbaric Iron Breastplate.

In conclusion, there is only one recipe in the entire game that is impossible for one faction to get and that's the Orcish War Leggings.
So whilst a Horde Blacksmith can learn everything, an Alliance one can't.

There are also some 'cross faction' recipes with Aldor and Scryers. You can get them both by obtaining the required reputation to buy the wanted recipe/design/plans and than switch factions. It is quite a bit of work, but it is nothing for a perfectionist ;)

A recipe that requires reputation with a faction to buy, does not get 'unlearned' when your reputation with that faction decreases. For example i can make both Nature and Shadow resistance necks. Both of them require Revered with scryer / aldor to buy. But once bought, you can switch faction easily.

I thought this would be about Aldor/Scryers, how to grind from one side to the other could be added. How high you would have to grind with each profession to get everything(not all have stuff at exalted I think).

And links for every recipe/plan to wowhead or thottbot, it helps to make it easy to see where one tip ends and the other starts since the formatting doesn't.

Good work like always Highlander.

Nice guide, but aren't all "How to acquire" section just buy and post on neutral AH, or do a quest and put on neutral AH?

Anyway its useful as a list of recipes which are one faction only, more then a practical how to get them all, but still nice work.

Q u o t e:

So did I and, to tell you the truth, I was very curious to see what Highlander would have to say about this switch.

Anyway, If you're Exalted with the Scryers and want to switch to the Aldor, the path is:

- Make sure you spend all the Arcane Runes to buy several of the shoulders enchants because, once you lose your Scryers rep, you're going to be unable to buy those enchants. Arcane Tomes you happen to have, you can always sell them in the AH but, the Runes are BoP.

- Go to Terrokar Forest and kill all the spiders you find. It doesn't really matter if they're widows or lurkers, kill them all.
By the time you have all the required sacs, you're going to have a small fortune in Netherweb Spider Silk and a lot in Huge Venom Sacs (the later only really usefull if you're still doing Naxx / leveling First Aid) so, it's not a complete waste. Don't be afraid to not loot / drop the Spider legs / mandibles since they only stack in 5 and they will fill your bags in no time.

Since every 8 venom scas will give you 250 rep points, you're going to need 1344 sacs to go from hated till neutral. At that point you can start your Aldor rep the usual way like nothing had happened.

A nice way to get some help killing all this spiders is to ask your guild tailors for some help. They will be killing the spiders anyway for the Netherweb Spider silk so, it will be no bother for them.

If, on the other hand, you're exalted with the Aldor and want to switch to the Scryers

- Make sure you spend all the Holy dusts to buy several of the shoulders enchants because, once you lose your Aldor rep, you're going to be unable to buy those enchants. Fel Armaments you happen to have, you can always sell them in the AH but, the Dusts are BoP.

- Go to Terrokar Forest and kill all the Basilisks you find. It doesn't really matter if they're Blue or red (can't remember their names), kill them all.
By the time you have all the required Dampscale Basilisk Eyes, you're going to be the best friend of all your guild's casters since you'll have a life time supply of chunk o'basilisk that any cook 315 can turn into Blackened Basilisk (+23 spell damage and 20 spirit for 30 mins). If you're a skinner you're also going to end up with a ton of leather scraps.
Like with the other rep, you're going to need 1344 Dampscale Basilisk eyes and do deliveries 8 by 8 each of them giving 250 rep. At that time you're going to be Neutral with the Scryers and pick up your rep from there.

A good way to get help to kill this basilisks it's from casters who need the food buff or from skinners that don't mind killing basilisks for the leather scraps.

PS. I plan on switching from Aldor to Scryers as soon as I have all the mats to do the switch in a day :)

I hope this helps anyone :)

I actually have a guide about it in the Quests forums ;)

Nice job Highlander, this deserves a bump and a spot in the Professions-Guide-Hall-Of-Fame-sticky.

EDIT: It's not true that you'll always need two accounts, though - on a PvE or RP server you can make characters for both sides (on RP-PvP and PvP you can't).

It's not clear from this post, but I should stress, if you're going to do this you need to use the enchant item before you destroy your rep as well. You cannot use an Aldor or Scryer shoulder enchant item once you have lost the reputation.

and thats why TS/Vent and guildies hanging around in BB are so kewl :-D

me and 5 of my closest wow friends have perma bank chars hanging around the BB inn, waiting for stuff we need transferred, then we choose an early morning duirng the week, and transfer all the stuff we need, playing horde now, and the Horde AH is expensive as hell, so we grind stuff on our alliance "alts" and buy cheap from Alliance AH, and then do the black market switch in BB. been caught 2 times on a few green gems by ppl who were browsing the neutral AH in WS or tanaris, and seeing 20 <insert name of gem> sitting on the ah for 1copper BO, they bought it ofc. /cry lol but thats the risks we take. ^^

Just to answer a couple of points here.

Deeply sorry it's not the "How to grind from Scryer to Aldor or vice versa", but to be honest, you could explain that in about 5 lines. It's not really that hard to figure out, it's just time consuming and there are virtually no variations on how you could do it.

As for the "Buy it put it on the AH" as being the answer for everything...well...ermm...yeah. That's not really what this post was about.
This post really a check list for all those people out there like me. The people who like to have every recipe for their chosen profession. What I've done here, is list all the recipes available and where you get them. Because I guarantee you, that most of you didn't know of every single one of them. It's easy to forget, but annoying to find out what you've missed.
I've done some of the work for ya, by telling you all where they all are.

Not sure if it has changed recently but I did the LW moonglow vest quest at 11 or 12, requires a certain level of LW to get it though (want to say 40 or 60 but not sure as its been a while). I feel sorry for the NEs levelling up though, Teldrassil or whatever the starter zone is is not nice and its so far from anywhere decent - I must have died 30 times getting to BB to transfer the recipe.

I'd argue against skipping the quests involved. Since most of them involve killing mobs (less so for Blacksmithing / Engineering, more so for Leatherworking and the like, especially cooking), the side effect of random drops is that:

A. You'll be getting loads of experience
B. You'll be loaded with non-quest item drops which you can sell off.

Then again, it all depends on how serious you are with the toons in question. Don't forget to delete them if you're not to save character slots!

Thank you! I'll be here all week. You've been a terrific audience! Try the shrimp!
