We’re pleased to announce a convenient upgrade to the way that mounts and vanity pets are handled in Wrath of the Lich King.
Players will be able to “learn” a mount or non-combat pet much like learning a spell, recipe, or new ability, and these creatures will then show up on a new Pet tab within the Character Info section of the interface. Players will be able to access and preview their learned mounts and vanity pets through this tab.
Once learned, the pet icon or mount icon will no longer appear in bag spaces or bank spaces. This inventory space will be made available once again for other adventuring needs. Pets can still be set to hotkeys by dragging them to the hotkey bar, much like any other spell or ability.

While this is a very nice change, it's sad that I cannot get back all the pets I had to destroy due to bag space shortage.
I suppose there won't be a way to retrieve e.g. the pet Worgen from the quest in BRS (or similar pets that were quest rewards), no?

Great news,although a 'pet carrier' would have been more fun tbh.
It could have been an extra item for a proffession such as tailoring,or perhaps engineering,with an alternative sold by Haris Pilton maybe :)

This is awesome news, I can finally reclaim my bank for all my other useless junk :D I think being able to summon your pets via spells is quite cool, like the way you do with mounts. It's more realistic than being able to carry around an elephant, a couple of cats, a parrot or three and an ooze in a backpack :P
Now all we need is to be able to name our pets

Carrying horses in your backpack seems stranger to me. The more sensible items were used to summon the mount/pet (cages, reins etc) and so can easily be replaced by a spell.
I hope that with this change I'll still be able to create a macro to randomly select a mount or pet.
