Hey there, pre tbc Tank warriors was one of the most played and desired classes of wow. In Wotlk will there be any need of Tank warriors or will druids/Paladin and Death knight just take over the role as tanker?

considering on playing up a new tank, but if its just gonna keep beeing a broken tanking class i might as well just skip that...

Think this is an issue that includes many players, what do you people think? worth playing up a warrior tank or is that just a dead project?:S

We probably don't even know 5% of what they are going to do with class balance PvE and PvP wise, there will be a new class added wich will take 1-2 raidslots in 25man. This means somewhere a class needs to be removed.

Maybe they will make alot encounters wich will require 6 tanks so you can tank all you want.

The main point is that we do not know, and only time will tell.

Yes, there will be so many tanks around that we have no need to AEO tanks, or have no need for single target tanks, and who needs a tank that can switch to dps?

I really dont see what the big deal about deathknights is :S They most propably wont be any good for raid tanking on which the warrior tank still is far more supirior to anything else. And beside that, atm we have 2 types of tanks: Single target tanks (Warrior and Druid) and AoE tanks (Paladins and i think Deathknights). It is not us warrior who need to fear for our tanking spot, it will be the paladins i think.

But still, warrior tanks > all other tanks. We have utility, avoidance and HP, whe are like the priests on the healing part, far more superior to the rest, still not as good as the other 2 on there specific specialised roles. Power to the warriors! ;-)

O and you will most likely have your warrior at 70 WAY before WotLK hits the stores.

I'm not all that worried. Currently there's a HUGE shortage of tanks so there's plenty of work for everyone who want to tank. I doubt Deathknights will change this since they'll be able to spec for dps just like everyone else.

The general problem for most tanks today (tankadins most of all) is caster-mobs. I guess this could be where Deathknights come into the picture with more anti-caster spells. It's a semi-empty slot that needs to get filled. Tankadins have problems getting proper aggro on casters and warriors needs gear to resist the damage. Druids? No idea, never played one. Also Dks won't wear shields and those are mostly good for mitigating physical damage.

My two cents

Imo most DKs will be played by ppl that want to dps, and I think it will be really hard to convince them to tank.

Anyone that wants to be a serious tank rolls a warrior

From what i've heard DK's will be able to deal with the damage whilst tanking through avoidance, surely this means they will never be able to match the threat per second that a good warrior tank can achieve with mitigation and shield spikes etc?

please correct me if i'm wrong, pretty new to all the theorycrafting....

Exactly. "LF Tank to tank green geared and pvp specced group through heroic Magisters Terrace". Erm no. I happily respec and tank sometimes for guild groups but on groups that are likely to disband after failing I'm not going to stay prot. If you have a guild then you will most likely only tank for them to save yourself a lot of headaches and suffering.

Frostwhisper- Zapirian 64 Druid

It will be just another tanking class that will refuse to pug.
Pugs don't have enough tanks because pug sucks, not because warrior, druids and palas are not capable of tanking. DKs won't change a thing.

My take on the Deathknight is that its a good class for 5 man tanking, maybe good enough for raid Offtanking. Raid MT'ing will be left for paladins, bears and warriors.

I think tanks refuse to PUG cos Blizzard made holding aggro too hard in TBC. Just give more aggro tools to tanks and I bet much more tanks will be tanking PUGs.

It would be rather silly to think that the Death Knight will make other classes obsolete, because that is really not the case. The Death Knight will bring its own flavour and style to the game, but at the same time it will be able to share roles with some of the existing classes.

We have seen quite a few posts recently saying that there are too few tanks to go around, posts that claim that it takes forever to find a tank for PUGs or that guild progression is being slowed down due to shortage of tanks. By adding another potential tank to the mix, the Death Knight should most surely be considered a helpful addition to the game instead of a threatening one.

I don't think Warriors will have anything to worry about in WotLK, because they will not be replaced by the Death Knight. Warriors will still be needed in groups and guilds, as they have always been, and they will still be great tanks. This also holds true for Druids and Paladins by the way.

I think the same has been said about paladin tanks and druid tanks.
Yet people are still looking for tanks.
Its not a big deal, nothing is going to change.

but that doesn't change the fact that (someone) will have to give away some of their raidspots to a DK, not meaning its the warrior having to but someone, so even if warriors wont suffer from this someone will.

whoaw, look at me. I countered a blueposter:)
