Hello,

We would like to conduct a small survey on your opinions regarding talents. We are interested in finding out if there was 1 particular talent that led you to speccing the way you did. To that end, we would like to ask that players post in this thread following this template:

- Build: XX/XX/XX (Focus: PvE / PvP)

- What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?

- What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?

Please confine answers to less than 100 words, we’re not looking for essays
If you wish to discuss issues raised in this thread we have setup a discussion thread here:
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=394039769#0

NOTE:
  • Any posts not fitting this format will be deleted. Use the discussion thread if you wish to debate someone’s choices.

  • Any posts made from other classes will be deleted, so please make sure to post with your main.

  • Any trolling, nerf calling, or general unconstructive posting in this thread will lead to a suspension.

We would like to remind you that this is meant as an informative survey; it does not necessarily imply any future modification of talents.

- Build: 0/11/50 (Focus: PvE)

- What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?
Improved Chain Heal/Earth Shield/Mana Tide. These three abilities are what seperate the shaman class, as healers, from the other healing classes. Chain heal is damn nice for healing up raid groups, second to none for that.

- What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?
Two-Handed Weapons. This should and will be trainable. Other than that I would change Totemic Focus into something more useful, say a new imbue on a weapon to aid mana regen or +healing effects or -threat, or at least something useful for a healer.

0 - 40 - 21 (PVP enhancement)

Stormstrike. Its an instant atack that not only do damage, it can procc windfury.

Shield specialization - why? Its rather useless.. no enh shamans uses shields anymore. I would like to see something like the Paladins have, divine strength: Increases your totalt strength with 2-4-6-8-10%.

I'm not dannish.. rly sorz!

From Enhancement:
Enhancing Totems, Improved Weapon Totems, Unleashed Rage - to buff melee group

From Restoration:
Totemic Mastery - to increase range for totems.
Improved Reincarnation - shortened cooldown is extra while 20% extra health helps to bring dps back if happen to die. Also used for wipe resser when out of DI or Soul Stones.
Nature's Guidance - always has use for hit

What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?
I'd like to have Ghost Wolf changed into default 1sec cast and 2 point talent to make it 25/50 % resist for CC

- Build: 0/8/53 Resto both PvP / PvE focus altough I ' d like to get some more PvP talents

- The key talent(s) to this build I think are: Purification, Totem mastery and Earth Shield because they improve my utility as a healer/buffer the most.
I would add Healing Focus and Focused Mind aswell since my ultimate goal is to be a PvP healer.

- The talents I would replace are nature's guardian, restorative totems, (ancestral healing)
I have the feeling I lack talent points to improve my PvP healing. I 'd like to have 5 points in Shield Spec , 3 pts in elemental warding and some other talents in enhancement to reduce dammage taken or boost our stamina.
Or maybe just a talent that would improve earthgrab totem (like hunters have improved wingclip and warriors improved hamstring) to make it immobilize for 2?seconds people when it 's cast. This would seriously improve our PvP survivability.

- Build: 0/5/56 Focus: PvE only

- What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?

Nature's blessing/ ES /Imp chain heal, These 3 talents boost not only healing but with ES tank threat aswell all 3 a major part of pve.

- What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?

Naure's Guidence: The points that you have to put into doesn't really seem worth the return, For people investing that deep into the restoration an improved Earth shield where you can cast onto 2 people or failing that it boosts threat/ healing done on one target by a % per point.

- Build: 0 / 41 / 7 (Focus: PvE) - 57lvl

- What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?
Dual Wield and Stormstrike, Well, I like two weapons and reason for Stormstrike, because It's only melee ability.(I miss more)

- What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?
Ancestral Knowledge - 5% is actually too low, because If I will have 6k mana on 70lvl so buff will only 300mana. I would like see 10% like Priest with Mental Strength. 600 worth to choose and second talent in first tier is completly useless. When I wanna be Dual Wield. As somebody mentioned above I would like some increase strength by 2/4/6/8/10%.

Improved Ghost Wolf - I didn't choose this talent, because for me in pve it's useless, because still I need cast it and I can use only outdoor. I would like improved to instant cast and chance remove snare effect 10/20% then it worth to pvp and maybe to pve also.

Improved Lightning Shield - Well, It's expensive for mana cost and dmg isn't huge. I would see low mana cost and some scaling with strength or maybe new shield only for Enhancement.

Two-Handed Axes and Maces - Trainable and your new talent which I saw on screenshotes from BlizzCon is great replace.

Toughness - I wanna be DPS not tank so I don't see any reason to choose this talent. I would like see some stamina increasing, because We as Shamans haven't enough HP compare to other classes which are DPS.

Spirit Weapons - Bigger reduction about 20% and fix problem with Windfury and other weapon buff.

Stormstrike - Trainable and add something else but hard to say what =)

Mental Quickness - I like new version what I saw on BlizzCon screenshots then I would choose this talent.

Dual Wield - I would like see trainable, but I don't except that I will see it =)

Shamanistic Rage - I like new version what I saw on BlizzCon screenshots. Very cool.

Nature's Guidance - Well, I haven't this talent because I need level up little more but I will choose its, but I would like rather go to Elemental tree then to Restoration, but this talent is important so I have to go to Restoration tree so move to first tier or move to elemental tree or enhancement tree.

Totemic Mastery - Same as Nature's Guidance. I would like see this talent as standard and not as talent.

Sorry for my english. I hope that you will understand :) I wanted help shamans(I love this class) so I wrote this =)

- Build: 0/5/56 Focus - PVE and PVP (Mainly BGs)

- What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?
- Nature's Swiftness, Healing Way, Focused Mind, Imp Chain heal, Purification etc are all fantastic, but Mana Tide, Imp Reincarnation and of course Earth Shield are the top talents from this tree imo.

- What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?
- I'd like elemental warding, I'd also like the 2 handers to be trainable, and re-iterate that shield specialisation is a waste of space. The resto tree though, is very good, I would therefore not replace anything in my current build.

Why doesn't mana spring scale like healing stream? Only with + spell rather than + healing?

- Build: 0/45/16 Focus: PvE first; PVP sometimes

- What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?

Spirit weapons; the dps limit of an enhancement sham is the treat.
Dual wield; is the key talent...

- What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?

Shield specialization is completely unusefool; it can be replaced with something like Nature's guidance (why this talent is in resto tree?) or thougness

Finally; we need a treat reduction; may be spirit weapon reduce the treat of yellow hit; culd be a nice change.

Build - 40/00/21 - Focus - Both

Key Talent for my build, must be Nature's Swiftness in Resto, and Elemental Mastery in Elemental

I'd change the Elemental Devestation Talent to something more "Elemental-like".
An Elemental Shaman rarely engages in melee combat, and therefore, I find this talent rather useless.
The Lightning Overload Talent could be better too. I find it rather useless for both PvP and PvE, since it's only 5% chance to "Dual Cast" a spell. That makes the 5 talent points spend there, rather useless, when you can use those 5 talents in 1 sec faster shocks.

I don't know what I would change the talents to though.

Sincerely Yours,
Daniel Nordik

Build
0/0/61 (Focus: PvE and PvP healing)

What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?
-Earthshield: It's amazing for survivability in PvP for the person who has it. It only proccs off damage so, unlike hots, no charges are ever really lost. Ofcourse it won't save your life if you take heavy damage, but it certainly helps. In PvE the same thing applies, no healing is ever lost, and the healing it does generated aggro to the person who has the Earthshield Buff, which makes it great for tanks imo.
-Mana Tide: It scales incredibly well because it will always return 25% of your mana pool, no matter how big or small it is. Especially in instances it can be a real lifesaver to your party to have that much mana restored in a very short time, as you can't drink in combat. In PvP (especially unorganised PvP such as outdoor and BG's) it's pretty good too actually, despite the new animation. I don't associate mana tide with PvP really, but yet I always seem to have it on cooldown o_O

What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?
-Healing Grace: I don't see why our healing spells can have -15% threat (compared to how they are now) trainable
-Totemic Mastery: Same, really

Although the resto tree is one of the best designed trees we have for healing, it doesn't add anything to the other 2 trees besides "Nature's Guidance" (which a "pure healing shaman" won't take as it doesn't benefit our healing in any way) and "Tidal Mastery" (no complaints there). If you take a look at the Druid Talents on the other hand, you'll see that the resto and feral tree compliment eachother perfectly. The resto talents benefit feral combat aswell, and as a druid you can spend points up to Omen of Clarity without having the feeling of "wasting" any points at all, because all the resto talents you're able to pick add something to feral combat. This is not the case for shamans, who spend points in the resto tree simply because they need Nature's Swiftness.

Sorry for the long essay :/

Build: 0/3/58 PvE resto

What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?
Improved Chain Heal - 20% more healing for 2 points explais it pretty well.

What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?
Would like to see healing grace have some effect for PvP, and restrorative totems could have more use.

Build: 41/0/20 Focus: PvE

- What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?

Totem of wrath for a uniqe buff that comes with my talentbuild.

- What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?

I would like to up the proc chance on Lighing overload to roughly 15%

Also merging Eye of the storm and elemental shields and remove the crit proc and make it proc on hit. Roughly 15-20% chance full talented on hit.

Last one is Elemental Devastation wich to me makes no sence at all. TBC caster weapons have all a low dps so why would you even use a talent like this. Maybe an enchancement could use it but they wouldn't have high spell crit to make the 3 points in it worth it.

The optimist belive we live in the best of worlds.
The pessimist fears that it's true.

SPEC:
0/45/16 PvE Raiding

KEY TALENT:
(ENHANCEMENT)
I would have to name several.
1. Dual Wield - we cannot do decent damage without this, it's everything to do with PvE enhancement. A necessary point and non-negotiable.
2. Stormstrike - non-negotiable. An extra 2 attacks, which proc windfury, apply a DPS-increasing debuff, can also proc flurry. Cannot do without this talent. In PvP this talent is also VERY important for 2h weapons, otherwise we simply stand there, swing, and wait 3.5 seconds.
3. Shamanistic Rage - this is so incredibly important to our PvE sustainability. Don't try and do raid-DPS without this.

(RESTO)
Totemic Mastery - 20 yard range on totems is absolutely rubbish, you just HAVE to take this talent if you want to break fears, or not have to replace your totems every 30 seconds, or absorb a spell, etc. etc.

WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU REPLACE AND WHY?
Imp. Ghost Wolf
There is very little point to this talent for a shaman. It saves a little time, makes our life a little easier carrying flags in BGs. But it's not helpful to get into range of people - the 1-second cast becomes 2-3 second cast, it can be dispelled anyway, and if you're slowed already then there's no point in using it.

Firstly this spell should be instant cast. Then it would actually be used by shamans, and not simply left to rot in their spell book.
Secondly, i would use the talent to give us the chance to escape movement impairing effects. This would allow us to get to and/or away from our opponents. Very big problem for enhancement shaman (and elemental too).

Suggestions on how to do this are rife - 25/50% chance to remove movement impairing effects and keep the same mana cost, increasing the mana cost and have 50/100% chance to remove movement impairing effects. There are even more ideas on other forums that i cannot list in such a small post.

Tougness
This is useless to us. It could be used in other better ways to improve our survivability.
(Enhancement having ~4500 armor, with this talent, gets 4950 armor.. pointless in today's game)

Anticipation
This needs a buff. Either improve the %, or make it an activated effect similar to evasion?

Shield Specialisation
To a talent tree that empowers us with DW and 2H, this talent is COMPLETELY out of place and uselss.

Totemic Mastery
This needs to be an innate shaman buff. 20y is inappropriate. (see next idea)

Totems, in general
These need fixing. A level 3 can 1-hit my totems, and have done before. Really, really really needs fixing.

Sorry for such a long post but we have MANY problems as a class.

- Build:
40/0/21 Focus: PvP

Lightning Mastery. Any spec like mine that doesn't include it is completely gimped.

I'm fairly pleased with the talents, but I would really kinda consider moving LM up a bit, maybe making it a 3 pt talent and buffing our threat reducing talent, for PvE. The little PvE I've done always limits me by threat more than anything else.

Build: 00/41/20 (Focus: PvE)

Key talent: Stormstrike / Dual Wield

Talent in build I would change: Two-Handed Axes and Maces
I use this in my build because I still occasionally like to use Two-handed weapons in certain situations and PVP etc. However, I think this talent should be trainable, rather than a talent. As for a replacement, something to improve threat management.

Talent in talent tree I would change: Shield Specialization / Toughness
I've never found these two talents particularly worthwhile. Both 5 point talents with far better alternatives.
Some sort of threat management would be my preferred replacement.

And thanks for asking :]

Build: 0/42/19 (Focus: PvE)

What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?

Unleashed Rage, a really good buff to my party that scales with gear. Enhancing Totems and Improved Weapon Totems for my support role.

What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?
Ancestral Knowledge, Shield Specialization and Toughness are worthless in PvE. If I choose PvE I have Shamanistic Rage so I don't need more max mana. I'd like to see talents that increases my damage and the damage of my party members, like Divine Strength for paladins (increases your strength by 2% per point, though attack power instead of strength would be even better).

- Build: XX/XX/XX (Focus: PvE / PvP)
41-0-20 [Elemental spec with focus on PvE]

- What, in your opinion, is the key talent to your build and why?
Totem of wrath - It's what makes an elemental shaman unique and also the only raidbuff the spec can give.

- What talent, in your build, would you replace if you could and with what?
Lightning overload - It's not that great even if it's good, another group or maby even raid buff would make the
elemental shamans more usefull for raiding.
