I started this topic after having seen a similar one on the warlocks forum. If a topic like this already exists, pls link it for us here (its not on 1st page here that's for sure).

Anyway, the point of the topic is sharing our knowledge about shamans between each other, meaning things that are less commonly known. Not only will this help us to improve, but it's quite a nice way to display skills i guess.

(As a sidenote, I'm personally interested in PvE resto tricks but ofc, anything would be interesting to know, even PvP or other specs's tricks)

I'll go first:
Earth Shield heals depending on the +heal you have when you cast it, not when it procs. This is why in important fights you should take the trouble of equipping your best +heal gear, put down Wrath of Air totem and cast it, then go back to the gear you will actually use in the fight (which might be mp5 oriented for example)

People probably already know these from raid strats, but they are quite handy to know if you haven't read them yet

Lady Vashj's 'stun' ability used in P1 and 3 of the encounter can be grounded. The CD on that ability seems to exactly mimic the un-improved Grounding Totem Cooldown.

Leotheras can be 'taunted' back to the middle after he switches to human phase, or after he ends a Whirlwind, by using Searing Totem. It seems the threat the totem generates during his WW is not reset at the end of WW, like all other threat. Just keep it up 100% of the time when he is Human phase, and it will make the switches go a lot smoother.

Kael'thas throws alot of normal fireballs at the main tank that can be interrupted, he does that alot so top rank ES can make you go oom fast :-)

Also if he spawns a phoenix right under him or the MT then the mt has to back out so he doesn´t take too much damage, Kael can then start to cast fireball instead of following the MT, interrupt that and he will run straight to the maintank.

It may have been a fluke but I once managed to drop a fire elemental totem just as Leotheras divided into demon and human (elf?) form at the end. The elemental got aggro on the demon and tanked him successfully to the end (elemental ofc being immune to fire =P )

Natures Swiftness works with ghost wolf for an instant cast travel form in emergencies.

Selecte a mob/boss which can cast heals etc and type /focus. Then using the macro "/cast [Target=Focus] Earth Shock(Rank 1)", you are able to interrupt the mob immediately, without having to deselect the tank/raid members you are currently healing. (Very useful on the Fathomlord Encounter vs the Healer). Would also work with purge to allow you to remove buffs from bosses without having to select them.

It might be a joke to you, but use lvl 1 earthshocks agains casters. The spellinterupt is very cheap in mana!

Your lvl 1 earthshock is a instantcast, soo wait to the end of the castingtimer to cast it! The casters will louse valuebly time with this move!

Earthbind totem works like a charm in the 2nd phase of the nightbane fight to slow down the skeletons.

For emergencyinterrupting I use the following macro:
/stopcasting
/cast Earth Shock

Works nice when the interrupt is more important then the heal.
Like when I'm healing on the Romulus and Juliane and also have to help interrupt that mega heal :P

And in arena where I have a nuke-team with my frostmage buddy we normally charge in on our horses and I use this macro:
/cast xi'ri's gift
/cast blood fury
/cast grounding totem

It dismounts you casts trinket and racial ability and places a grounding totem at the same time so the first enemy spell won't hit and you'll be pumped up for some nice damage.

Yes, this works nicely for interrupts, purge, and also for sending instant-heal to the tank when you are not assigned (you have other targets).
/cast Nature Swiftness
/cast [target=focus] healing wave
Is a very nice macro... for any healer (with class-dependent adjustments ofc) :).

I use a range of simple macros on a single button each for pve and pvp..

eg:

/castsequence stoneskin totem, healing stream totem, grace of air totem

for pve\grinding

on a button called "rogue" I use

/castsequence stoneskin totem, poison cleansing totem, grace of air totem, magma totem

This allows you to deploy 3-4 totems in one go by a few clicks on the same button instead of hunting around your button bars, saves critical time esp in pvp. The pve one is just easier all round.

Note:pls no critique of my choice of totems :oD

Also in Pvp it helps to learn which spells naturally complement one another..?
If attacking someone first from range then closing to melee I go lighting bolt>Naturesswiftness>lighting bolt>frost shock>fire nova totem(when near) then start attacking, this gives you high burst damage before they can react(you can get the two LBs off within a split second of each other with NS)*, its also useful to run through or jump over them then turn around and start hitting them from behind, ppl who arent experienced in pvp will often panic.

*Im still just 60 so havent tried in many Bgs, works well in AB or when you are out and about.
Ambush strategy basically.

This stuff probs only helpful to lower levels!

In arenas and BG stay in GW when not fighting to become immune to sap, but if you see a Hunter or Druid, quickly change out.

Each time I cast Chainlightning and I hear the !!**ty sound, I torture a Teddybear with cigarettes. Honest.

Water is your friend.

If a mounted person is chasing you(this happened to me a lot pre-40 pvp) ghost wolf and jump into water, this forces them to dismount.

Also having water walking on a button is handy, if you are pvping near water cast and run across the top, you can outmanouver and ranged cast someone to death this way.

These two are oddities really, but still funny if done right.

Nice thread!

° Insta self heal:

/cast Nature's Swiftness
/stopcasting
/cast [target=player] Healing Wave(Rank 12)

° When you have to monitor a mob with unstanble aggro for interrupts but you have already a "focus" target, you can simply heal the target of the mob whatever this is in the moment you press the macro:

/cast [target=targettarget, help] Healing Wave(Rank 12)

(the "help" is checking if the target ot the target is friendly - player in your party/raid/realm)

° Casting water walk or water breathing after your Earth Shield in the arena makes the opponents purging you needing more time to dispell your important buffs. (needs reagents even in arena atm)

Ofc most of us know the stuff here but as the OP said, sometimes you simply forget about it.

Godly :P thank you thank you very much :P I always had a lot of trouble targetting little red riding hood in the wolf event. This should make it easy because the wolf is quite hard to missclick on.

- Grounding Totem eats a hunter's Freezing Trap
- Grounding Totem eats a paladin's Hammer of Justice
- You can use Searing Totem to force opponents to enter combat, for instance when you see a warrior running up to you. He'll be forced to intercept instead.

You are entitled to my opinion.

The first miniboss at Kael (Tsomething) Has a strange aura. That aura does no DMG but water shield charges from it so you get alot of mana while he is running. Same in Phase3 when he is up. Use WaterShield and you will get mana back

Q u o t e:
some of the arcane watchers (or the mobs that look like them in tempest keep) use a charged fist abilatie.
this can be interupted with an earthshock.
this can save the healer alot of stress and mana.

Yes, this is very helpful :)
However, this ability can *not* be grounded, as somebody posted here a while ago. I learned it the hard way ;)

In Black Morass, you can ground the minibosses' Pyroblast (on heroic it hits for about 5-6k so it helps a lot).

Romulo's Daring and Julianne's Devotion are both purgeable.

During the Netherspite fight, I've found that on Banish phase my Water Shield's charges are consumed even when I'm far away near the windows (and not hit by his aura). Be sure to recast it every time you can during this fight (in Portal phase his debuff's ticks trigger Water Shield as well), as it greatly helps to save mana!

alot of spells that would damage you will not destroy grounding totem, only consume its buff. for instance mana burn or dots.

also when mob casts spells in quick succession, grounding will soak more of them

Water walking and water breating are buff protective buffs that you apply outside of your ES or windfury so they have to be removed first before the opponenent can remove those that matter.

Order of placement is important, dont let them spellsteal Earthield and triump that you still have water walking, apply in priority order
