Or "how to get along with people on the forums, including the moderators”. ;)

Be nice!
  • Don’t insult others ("others" covers people, classes, groups, guilds, companies, etc)
  • Don’t be provocative through e.g. mockery or ridicule
  • Don’t call for nerfs – it’s very provoking for those you want to nerf
  • Respect the turf - whether it's Raid & Dungeons, Role-Playing (realm) forum, or a class forum, keep in mind where you are and be respectful
  • Argue the topic, not the person – discrediting others is very bad form (and provoking - see above)
Don’t spam. Spam is not only repeated posting, but also posting nonsense or annoying posts/threads. Examples of spam are
  • “Bump”, “IBTL”, “first”
  • ASCII art
  • Posting the same thread in multiple forums, including posting a thread to link to another thread
  • Links disguised as something else (Rickrolling, link-clicking games, etc.)
Don’t post in CAPS or use excessive punctuation, e.g. “!!!”, “…….” and “>>>look<<<”.

Be constructive, even when disagreeing and giving criticism. If you claim something is a fact, not just your opinion or impression, prove it.

Use a descriptive subject and refrain from using “Blizzard”, “blue”, a CM name or similar to get attention.

Mind your language - the word filter is a hint, not an excuse.

Post in English, and English only - it's the only language all moderators understand, and if a moderator can't verify that your post is not breaking the rules, it will get deleted.

Also, please note that moderators can identify all your characters. Switching character to post with suggests you’re very aware of the post being less than appreciated, and any warranted sanctions will take that into account.

It's so very tempting to disobey all those rules in one sentence :p

I certainly hope there is a special place in hell for you Arthas - Uther The Lightbringer. We will remember him for all eternity. FOR THE LIGHTBRINGER!

Is this because of how many people have been ignoring rules, inciting many a ban and lock lately? 3rd btw

You know it's been a bad day on General when a Blue has to post a "Forum Rules for Dummies".

I'm quite sad that my favourite term (dip#@@#tery) is frowned upon though.

Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

/me scraps the >>>>BLUE TUHNDGOTZ LUK HIER NER F NER F!!!!!!1111ELEVENTYONEONE<<<< thread(s) containing mainly ascii "art" defaming other classes, guilds that use said classes (with words that get around the swearing filter). Yggdrasil then whistles innocently and quickly walks away.

Oh, the irony. :P

I think a lot of people do need reminding of the rules. Heck, I've probably broken one in the line above.

My life for Aiur! Uh, I mean, Ner'zhul.

But I made this character in order to post with sarcastic wit!

Also, I believe that people should not be judged by what class they play or their level, or the level of their gear in the Armory.

This is one step further on anonymity than one of my other characters.

Anyways, have respect for the rules on the forums, and let's all have fun!

I is a troll!

Oh, nothing specific about today. Just a general reminder that we've unfortunately seen necessary a bit too often lately. If people can think twice before the post instead of when they see the "You have been suspended" message, that'd be cool. ;)

Hehe, good catch. Edited. ;)

Q u o t e:

Not less to do in general, but less moderation and thus a chance to focus more on other tasks than pure moderation, like discussions, topic research and feedback (both ways). :)

It falls under the "spam" rule. It's also getting a bit old by now. ;)
