We have already started working on balancing the equipment in game a bit more with patch 2.0.10 with the corrections made to socketing.

There were some items that had to be adjusted to more appropriate values which meant some were adjusted down and others were adjusted up. For example, items that felt too powerful have been readjusted to more appropriate levels. Others that are under have been taken a look at as well and given a boost.

Concerning socketed items, many of them that were not functioning as they should have been modified.

Furthermore, colour = rarity and not value and that is still true, however we also know that generally speaking the more rare an item, sometimes the higher value. That isn't the rule necessarily since we've all seen the purple item that no one wants to take. Does that mean that item isn't worthwhile to someone else? No. It just means different items have different value based on what a particular player wants out of their build.

All loot is being looked at and adjusted and primarily it's about risk vs. reward more than it is colour. If the team feels an area has a significant amount of risk, they want to make sure that the reward is commensurate to go with it. Most people just tend to associate a value with colour because in general rarer items do in fact tend to have better stats or at least there is an expectation for that to be true.

This is going to be something we plan to continue working on over time in upcoming patches as we evaluate items that may not be living up to what we wanted them to be or are more powerful than originally intended. We understand that people don't want to invest time in a dungeon only to get something that isn't equal to the work that goes into getting it, and that people don't want to invest in gear that could change and be less than they wanted

Please note that betas will never cover every possible aspect of a new addition to the game. It gives a good starting picture. A live world however can often show the full story of what is and isn't working.

an epic trinket dropped off Romulus in the Kara Opera event last night, and it must surely rank amongst one of the worst epics ever concieved. no bonus, just a chance on hit to apply a 300 nature damage.

Will items that maybe bugged also be looked at. The Masquarde Ball Gown (R&J loot in Kara) which I'm using hardly ever seems to Proc, in a 3hour Kara run it procced once...

Probably applies mostly to stuff like T4, some Karazhan crap items and maybe some heroic 5man things(?)

I know I'm storing all marginal items instead of sharding them. Our team usually shards only epics that nobody genuinely can use (say, hunter items if there is no hunter in a group). Probably a good idea considering this post.

Brilliant work there, really.

Or the maiden of virtue Boots of Foretelling, which require a raid, cleaning some pretty tough trashmobs, a pretty tough boss to get boots worse than a quest reward to kill much easier boss in a 5-man instance?

The logic is overwhelming.

Good to see this being addressed.

Karazhan loot is currently a paradox. To defeat the bosses you need gear almost as good as it gives you,and that can't be right for an instance that locks you for a week and is a prerequisite for further raiding.

I heard crafted items were bring nerfed? In my opinion they are fine and Karazhan loot is fine for the majority of it, being as it's only a UBRS style instance, in which should really only offer slight upgrades over blues from other 70 instances.

Compare bosses in Karazhan and bosses in UBRS. (at time when both were released).

Kara is just something to do while we wait for the real end game stuff just like what URBS ect was till we got MC.

so in a way it is just another UBRS but more bosses and purple loot.

I hope this means that items looted from heroic dungeons will be retuned to be better than the ones you loot from non-heroic instances, as for example some D3 set pieces are set to drop in non-heroic instances and some are not (which does not make sense as for example Heroic Underbog or Durnholde are significally harder than non-heroic Shattered Halls, yet they both reward you parts of Battlegear of Desolation with every part being on the same item level). Basically people do Heroics for reputation (=epics), not for loots, because they usually provide nothing better than the old ones do, especially if the player has raided Kara as well.

A suitable solution would be to make Desolation set to drop only in heroic dungeons (as well as Doomplate Battlegear and Mana-Etched Regalia) and then retune them to have higher item level (and thus higher stats) for example Beast Lord Cuirass. It would be a good idea to make like two out of five parts to be epic to give their owners some status (look I completed Heroic Morass 12 times and finally the hard work paid out! ;P ). The set bonuses on these 3 sets are awesome, the set pieces themselves just need a boost.

Last words, the epic items on Heroic Difficulties should have higher droprate, this reminds me of ZG at the moment and believe me, it's not a good thing.
