K, i got this question.

I havent been online for about a year, and today when i logged on, my mail box were FULL of gold selling spam

So this is my question.
Are you selling account names/infomation to gold sellers?

Gold sellers probably got a list with thousands of common and uncommon names, and the mail bot thingie mails to all of em. Those that are names on the server will get mail, the others won't, cause they don't exist.

Or something like that =)

It's all a huge conspiricy set up by blizzard to fund their secret zombie army by selling information to the chinese in exchange for mutagenic virus samples.

I made a new char - never logged on to him and when I get on i have 3 mails from gold sellers.

doubt it works that way - i checked my nick on that armory and was only able to find myself - and i still get spammed with those mails

No idea about how feasible this is, but couldn't the gold sellers just set up a script to parse all the names on a server from the Armory? And then just feed the name list into their spam chat bot :p

I've noticed an increase in whispers since the armory was released, anyone else?

I've actually noted a decrease - maybe the gold sellers uses blizz random? :P

I'm the only person with my name on the european and american servers, and I still get them, so can rule that out. (OMG TEH EPEEN)

I would guess they simply use an addon to save the content of /who 60-70, and work up a list of names which they have another addon try and send mails to on all realms. All speculation tho, might be they're just really really fast typers :P

Humm... Ninja it and implement it in the game permanent. ;)

Go to the links gold farmers send you, and most of the sites got a small box where you can enter your name and realm, and they'll remove you from the list of names they send to. Worked for me. Only received one whisper the last 2 weeks :)
