In our continued efforts to support fair gameplay in World of Warcraft and to provide a positive experience for players, we are currently taking steps to ensure fair and enjoyable competition in the Battlegrounds. Starting immediately, we will be issuing warnings and penalties, including suspensions, for non-participation in Battleground games.
We are taking action against a large number of accounts immediately, and will continue to monitor these situations and regularly take action against violators. If you encounter a player in a Battleground who is intentionally not participating in the battle for an extended period of time, please help us track the situation and report the player as AFK. For information on how to complete an in-game AFK report, please go here: (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/battlegrounds/info.html). All reports will be thoroughly investigated, and corrective action will only be taken if the violation is confirmed.
Thank you for your support and best of luck to you in all of your games in the Battlegrounds!

Q u o t e: Can't you just make the honor items cost 10 times less so we can have a life next to WoW and still be competive?
Maybe you could play some Tekken instead? I'm serious. MMORPG require a long term commitment if you want to participate in endgame content. There is plenty to do for casual players in WoW, but don't expect to be competitive in arena; which is supposed to be "the ultimate pvp challenge for the most battle hardened veterans", in short arena is endgame content. For PvE the equivalent would be to ask blizz to give free tier 5 sets so everyone can do Black Temple.

got a 3 hour bann for not responding to a gm in a bg \o/
There are no such things as "PvE" servers, there are however "Normal" servers, "Normal" servers also have loads of PvP players. So GTFO 'pve server this' 'pve server that' crap.

Excellent! Too little and too late, though.
Gee, people have gotten three hour bans for AFKing themselves full epic sets in hundreds of AV. Wow, three whole hours, they surely feel shame and regret while prancing around in their ill gotten epics.
All Blizzard has to do now is implement penalties that will actually amount to anything more then the current slap on the wrist. Then we might actually see some improvement in the AFK situation. That is if Blizzard is actually going to continue enforcing this policy, instead of just impotently shaking their finger at a few people just for show this one time and then forgetting the whole affair. I'm not optimistic on either point.
