Something that occurred to me as I was in the Sunfury Spire in Silvermoon today - the main throne room would be perfect as a ballroom, where we could have a fancy formal event. Now then, would you fine and wonderful chaps be interested in such a thing? Would you want to attend?

In my imagination, a ball would something like this:

A strict dress code!

Men in tuxedos and similar attire

Women in fancy, fancy dresses

Waiters with drinks and nibbles

Important people being announced as they enter ("The Lord Sok of Dror, with his lovely wife, Mrs Dror") - for a small fee, of course.

People acting super-posh

Dancing. It's a ball, right?

I made the suggestion to a few people earlier and got various measures of approval, so I thought I'd see what the rest o' youse guys thought about it. Would y'all be up for it? Think... fancy clothes, fancy talk, fancy food and drink... a night to remember, right?

I like it - I'd gladly turn up and splurge several gold just to get a fancy title called out :D

This sounds like a marvellous idea and I would love to help in seeing it happen. Maybe an article in the Goblin Gazette?

Maybe send out formal invitations to guildmasters of guilds we know keep themselves IC?

Maybe even send Aftermath an invite as the champions of the horde?

Oh, it'll be like the good old high school days when all the boys nervously asked the girls to be their date. (Only this time the girls will be boys as well :( )

I'd come! But I only have dresses, for some reason...

What I'm not sure I made clear was that I'm at the moment fishing for interest among you nice people before I commit this to a time and date. If not enough people express an interest, I'll probably let myself be distracted by shiny things and the idea will die. So! It's on you guys! You lovely lovely people!

So yeah, please mention this idea to your RP guilds and RP friends, ask them if it's something they'd like to attend, and impress on them just how fancy the clothes will be. And tell them to come here and say how much they like fancy clothing and formal engagements.

Once I'm convinced we can make this an awesome night to remember, I'll start thinking about sending out invitations to every RP guild I can find, as well as non-guilded individuals. In the case of the latter, if I don't know your name, I won't be able to send you an invite!

(Oh, and sorry to all our Alliance chums - while I'd love to see friendly faces like Morgalyen and Nec and so forth, the venue really isn't suitable for cross-faction interaction. There's guards around the edges and three trigger-happy faction leaders in the middle)

Otherwise, good idea. Horde needs more RP events. The WORLD needs more RP events! ( By world, I mean Azeroth, and Draenor. ( Spelling? ))

We gotta do this on the Alliance side. Theres an empty bank-like building in the Dwarven District, that could work.

There is the Lunar festival coming up next month, or would it be some kind of charity event?

The only problem is that Vyp isn't really the type for formal events. Still, if was the case of a party going on that everbody else was going to, i'm sure somebody could pursuade her to wear a dress for one night ;)

Narux - you are of course absolutely right as a Valentine's event. For some reason, although I was fully aware of the Valentine's event coming up, I'd entirely blanked my brain in linking it to the ball. It's the perfect hook. I had been imagining it as a sort of celebration of the Horde being free from oppression and slavery, blah blah, but it's good to temper this with also being a Valentine's celebration. Hooray! Well, I guess that narrows down the chances of when it'll be held, eh?

Atreyon - You bring up a good point to mention. Bringing dates and companions is by no means discouraged, and if this is to be a Valentine's event it may well be positively encouraged. HOWEVER! It will by no means be enforced. Guests do not NEED to bring a date! It may be that the gender balance is somewhat one-sided, and we don't want any guests to feel left out! It is, after all, a party, and the most important thing is for people to turn up, dress fancy and enjoy themselves!

Morgalyen - I would love for you to come, really I would. But you've visited that part of Silvermoon before, right? It's packed with guards and deadly bosses, and having alliance corpses and skeletons draped around the ballroom would lend a somewhat unpleasant air to proceedings.

Vypra (and anyone else who may think a Formal would not be their "scene") - Please don't let this put you off! This is a celebration of the unity of the Horde, and a chance for non-elves to see what life can be like in the glitz and glamour of Silvermoon. Take this as a chance to dress up pretty! Show your peers that you are just as civilised as they are! Most importantly - enjoy yourselves!

Getting past the 12 Honor Guards is no problem.

A large part of the space of the room behind them is safe. The curtains are where it gets dangerous again.
Guess I'll just stay away, prevents accidental attacks as well. Maybe I'll drop in to take a peek.

Can I come as Pamela Andersson?

I know, I've been there a few times before. Been to the Inner Sanctum as well, I can't make use of the Teleporter though (Not even through MC). Thank you for the offer, but I'll most likely not show up to make sure the event is more peaceful.

Of course, one of the nicest upshots of this is that it could bring a lot of RP'ers together, especially those who don't normally make contact with each other. I know Dihem in particular has been saying he occasionally feels excluded in RP, so this would be a good chance to get everyone in the same room, swapping stories and playing off each other.. All accompanied by sinister harspichord waltz music:
