Overview: Paladin-Sets in TBC Guide by Carighan, original post: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=117471770&sid=1

Q u o t e:
Paladin Sets in The Burning Crusade

Dungeon 3, obtained from 5mans.
These have no class-tag, yet some show class-specific setbonuses.
Righteous Armor (Paladin specific): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=623
Doomplate Battlegear (generic): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=661

Tier4, obtained from a variety of Raiding/Highend
Class-specific, available in 3 versions depending on your flavour/spec.
Justicar Armor (Protection): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=625
Justicar Battlegear (Retribution): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=626
Justicar Raiment (Holy): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=624

Tier5, obtained from high-end Raiding
Class-specific, available in 3 versions depending on your flavour/spec.
Crystalforge Armor (Protection): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=628
Crystalforge Battlegear (Retribution):http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=629
Crystalforge Raiment (Holy): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=627

PvP Rewards
The epic sets are from scoring high in the Arena, the blue ones are just bought with Honor points. Class-specific, available in different flavours although none directly boost any talent-skill, so you're free to choose as you want.
Gladiator's Aegis (Spell-focused): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=582
Gladiator's Redemption (Healing): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=690
Gladiator's Vindication (Melee-focused): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=583
Grand Marshal's Aegis (Spell-focused): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=589
Grand Marshal's Vindication (Melee-focused): http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=607

Although one should note that the T4 Retri set only needs 11 points in Retribution to give it's full benefit, and T5 Retri/Holy sets don't need that specs technically at all - if you like their stats and bonuses, can just as well get them with the "wrong" spec.

Also, while not a set, I feel I have to add the final upgrade of the plate-chestplate only Armorsmiths can make.

Spell Damage Coefficients v2.0 Guide compiled by Emilia, original post: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=93930569&sid=1

Q u o t e:
(Credit goes to Theras and Anele off U.S. servers)

18/03/2007 Update - All values updated for 2.0.1.

Before asking any questions, please read the FAQ below. Over 80% of the questions that get asked in this thread have already been answered already and I would like to avoid having this thread break prematurely. Thanks for your cooperation.

15% Seal of Righteousness 1.6 speed (1H)*
40% Seal of Righteousness 3.7 speed (2H)*
73% Judgement of Righteousness
20% Seal of Command (with spell damage equipment)
29% Seal of Command (with Holy damage equipment)
43% Judgement of Command
95% Consecration*
43% Holy Shock
43% Hammer of Wrath
43% Exorcism
19% Holy Wrath*
20% Holy Shield*
19% Avenger's Shield*
43% Judgement of Vengeance
17% Seal of Vengeance
40% Crusader Strike*

71% Holy Light
43% Flash of Light

* See FAQ for explanation.

FAQ

Q: Spell damage what?
A: Spell damage coefficients are the portion of "Increases damage and healing done by spells and effects by X." equipment that applies to any of the above listed spells and abilities. So using the above numbers at 100 total spell damage equipment, Holy Shock would get a bonus 43 points of damage / healing, and Holy Light would get a bonus 71 points of healing.

Q: So does this also work for school-specific abilities, like Judgement of the Crusader? What about just Healing Equipment?
A: For our offensive spells, yes, Judgement of the Crusader works exactly like damage and healing equipment on that target only. That's 190 addtional Holy spell damage right there that every Paladin has as an innate skill. Please note that for some reason, Seal of Command yields a different coefficient for Holy spell damage and regular spell damage equipment. I don't know why, but it does. That's why two values are listed for that skill.

Healing equipment works exactly in the same way, but only on our healing abilities: Holy Light, Flash of Light, and Holy Shock (when used defensively).

The new Librams which effects heals also receive a 42.9% spell damage coefficient to Flash of Light, so it's just like any other +healing mod but just for that specific spell.

Q: How are the values for Consecration, Holy Wrath, Holy Shield and Avenger's Shield calculated?
A: Consecration's spell damage coefficient is spread out throughout the duration of the spell, and affects each target individually. So if you have 100 spell damage equipment, are fighting two targets, and one of has Judgement of the Crusader active (190 bonus spell damage), the Judged target will take 787 damage over 8 seconds from Consecration (290 * 95% + 512), and the other will take 607 (100 * 95% + 512) damage over 8 seconds. Holy Wrath follows the same mechanic; 19% of your spell damage equipment is applied to each bolt. Holy Shield's coefficient is spread through its four blocks. If you only block once, you only get 5%. Sorry. Avenger's Shield use full coefficient for each target it hits.

Q: How are the values for Seal of Righteousness calculated?
A: The coefficients for Seal of Righteousness is based on if you use a 1h or 2h. When using a 1h the formula is ((Weapons speed * 0.09) * 100) and for 2h it is ((Weapon speed * 0.11) * 100).

Q u o t e:
Q: What does the 40% holydamage on Crusader Strike mean? How is it calculated?
A: If you hit Crusader Strike for 300 and now add up 100 spelldamage your Crusader Strike hit would be 340. Its all melee damage and armor factors in at the end result. Crusader Strike takes no effect from trinkets like Zandalarian Hero Charm which effects spells only. The Strike is a simple extra melee attack. However your Crusader Strike does benefit from Judgement of the Crusader.

Q: Why aren't Blessing of Sanctuary / Seal&Judgement of Blood / Judgement of Light / X weapon and Y trinket / Other random skills listed?
A: Abilities with no coefficients are not included in the list.

Q: lmao im not a mage why do i care?
A: It is the only method by which we can increase our magical damage and healing, so you should. From Blackwing Lair onwards, Blizzard has begun adding gobs of spell damage equipment to our item sets in an effort to make the sets appealing to damage dealing and healing Paladins alike. Not to mention, Judgement of the Crusader counts as a Holy spell damage booster.

Q: Well this is concrete proof that Paladins must suck! None of our abilities get the full benefit, not even healing.
A: Not really. But you have a point in reference to a select few abilities. Let me explain.

Ask your self who gets more benefit out of 100 points of spell power: a Paladin casting baseline Flash of Light (42.85% coefficient), a Paladin casting baseline Holy Light (71.41% coefficient), or a Mage casting baseline Fireball (100.00% coefficient)? None of the above. All of them generate 1714% over a period of a minute. Most other abilities appear to get an appropriate coefficient based on their casting time.

The only abilities that have non-standard coefficients are Seal of Righteousness, Judgement of Righteousness, Seal of Command and Consecration. One of these abilities could potentially use a bit of a boost.. Seal of Command can reach a maximum of 525.5% over a minute. Seeing as other skills can reach a peak of 1714% per minute, we have a long way to go in the damage department. Let's hope somebody at Blizzard notices.

Q: How are you arriving at these values?
A: Given enough experimentation, I am able to arrive at values that are accurate to within 1% or better. For purposes of easier reading I round to the nearest whole number.

Can't help you with retribution, but I can tell you what I'm aiming for for Protection. It's what I'm gonna gather, I'm not saying it's the best gear out there. I'm rather oriented on crushing blows, which might or might not be your thing:

Weapon - Continuum Blade - Keepers of Time: Revered
Shield - Shield of the Wayward Footman - World Drop

Head - Helm of the Righteous - The Mechanar: Pathaleon the Calculator
Shoulders - Spaulders of the Righteous - The Botanica: Laj
Chest - Jade-Skull Breastplate - The Mechanar: Nethermancer Sepethrea
Wrists - Bracers of the Green Fortress - Blacksmith
Hands - Gauntlets of the Righteous - The Shattered Halls: Warchief Kargath Bladefist
Waist - Lightwarden's Girdle - Quest Reward: Deathblow to the Legion
Legs - Timewarden's Leggings - Keepers of Time: Revered
Feet - Boots of the Colossus - Mana-Tombs: Pandemonius (Heroic)

Libram - Libram of Repentance - Vendor (15 Badge of Justice)
Neck - Strength of the Untamed - Cenarion Expedition: Revered
Back - Devilshark Cape - The Steamvault: Warlord Kalitresh
Finger - Elementium Band of the Sentry - The Arkatraz: Harbinger Skyriss
Finger - Protector's Mark of the Redemption - Quest Reward: Dissention Amongst the Ranks...
Trinket - Figurine of the Colossus - The Shattered Halls: Warchief Kargath Bladefist
Trinket - Dabiri's Enigma - Quest Reward: Dimensius the All-Devouring

Enchants:
Weapon: Enchant Weapon - Major Spellpower (40 Spell damage) - Enchanter
Shield: Enchant Shield - Shield Block (15 Block rating) - Enchanter
Cloak: Enchant Cloak - Dodge (12 Dodge rating) - Enchanter

Head: [Glyph of the Defender] (16 Defense rating, 17 Dodge rating) - Keepers of Time: Revered
Shoulders: [Greater Inscription of Warding] (10 Defense rating, 15 Dodge rating) - Aldor: Exalted
Chest: Enchant Chest - Exceptional Health (150 Health) - Enchanter
Wrist: Enchant Bracer - Major Defense (12 Defense rating) - Enchanter
Hands: Enchant Gloves - Major Spellpower (20 Spell damage) - Enchanter
Legs: [Runic Spellthread] (18 Stamina, 27 Spell damage) - Tailor
Feet: Enchant Boots - Boar's Speed (9 Stamina, 8% Speed increase) - Enchanter

(Scryer would give 5 more Defense and 5 less Dodge, making it very slightly easier to reach the 100% cap, but have more block attributed for that, causing overall very slightly less damage migitation).

Total:
Armor: 10114
Strength: 52
Stamina: 456 (+27 from enchants = 483) (+150 health from enchants)
Intellect: 87 (+4 socket bonus = 91)

Defense rating: 297 (+38 from enchants = 335) (+6 socket bonus = 341)
Dodge rating: 74 (+44 from enchants = 118)
Block rating: 73 (+15 from enchants = 88)
Block value: 115 (+6 socket bonus = 121)

Mana/5seconds: 13
Damage and Healing: 208 (+87 from enchants = 295)
Spell Hit Rating: 8
Speed Increase: (8% from enchant)

Reasoning behind this gearset is pushing crushing blows off the table for lvl 73 mobs. I'm assuming you have the Anticipation and Deflection talents, which add 20 Defense and 5% Parry.

2.4 Defense Rating = 1 Defense (@ 70)
60 Defense Rating = 1% Miss, 1% Dodge, 1% Parry, 1% Block, 1% Anti-Crit

Miss% = 5% + ((Defense skill - Attacker's attack skill) * 0.04)
Against lvl 73 mobs: -9.6% + 0.04% * Defense
With 370 base defense: 5,2% + (Defense rating / 60)%

18.9 Dodge Rating = 1% Dodge (@ 70)
Base dodge + (AGI / AGI:Dodge ratio) seems to be 4.17% for a lvl 70 human with no agility from items.

Dodge% = Base dodge + (AGI / AGI:Dodge ratio) + Dodge Rating contribution + Talent and Race contributions + ((Defense skill - Attacker's attack skill) * 0.04)
Against lvl 73 mob: -10.43% + (Dodge rating / 18.9)% + 0.04% * Defense
With 370 base defense: 4.37% + (Dodge rating / 18.9)% + (Defense rating / 60)%

31.5 Parry Rating = 1% Parry (@ 70)

Parry% = 5% base chance + contribution from Parry Rating + contribution from talents + ((Defense skill - attacker's weapon skill) * 0.04)
Against lvl 73 mob with Deflection: -4.6% + (Parry rating / 31.5)% + 0.04% * Defense
With 370 base defense: 10,2% + (Parry rating / 31.5)% + (Defense rating / 60)%

7.9 Block Rating = 1% Block (@ 70)

Block% = 5% base chance + contribution from Block Rating + contribution from talents + ((Defense skill - attacker's weapon skill) * 0.04)
Against lvl 73 mob with no talents: -9.6% + (Block rating / 7.9)% + 0.04% * Defense
With 370 base defense: 5,2% + (Block rating / 7.9)% + (Defense rating / 60)%

Chance to prevent curshing blow/regular hit = Miss% + Dodge% + Parry% + Block%
Against lvl 73 mob with 370 base defense: 5,2% + (Defense rating / 60)% + 4.37% + (Dodge rating / 18.9)% + (Defense rating / 60)% + 10,2% + (Parry rating / 31.5)% + (Defense rating / 60)% + 5,2% + (Block rating / 7.9)% + (Defense rating / 60)%
Against lvl 73 mob with 370 base defense: 24,97% + (Defense rating / 15)% + (Dodge rating / 18.9)% + (Parry rating / 31.5)% + (Block rating / 7.9)%

With these enchants: 24,97% + (341 / 15)% + (118 / 18.9)% + (88 / 7.9)% = 65.08%.
Holy shield wit the libram adds 35.06% block rating, leading to 100.14% while Holy shield is up.

Note that Tier 4 gear and the occasionally lucky epic will provide better defense/parry/dodge/block, resulting in more than 100%, which means I can replace certain items by items with less defense/parry/dodge/block and more stamina/spell damage.

In addition, I counted the socket bonuses, but not the sockets themselves. You can use the sockets to boost stamina and spell damage.

Lastly, this is a little reworked version of my own post on my own guild forun which was primary written for only myself in mind, and not really written as a guide, hence the weird format and focussed addressing. If anyone writes a more generic guide, I'll take this off.

Good post Zoe, there's a few things I can see that might be able to be upgraded but a nice framework for people to improved upon.

Just off the top of my head, the shield from Exalted at Sha'tar is very nice for use ^^

If I missed something and you know of an upgrade that keeps Miss/Dodge/Parry/Block above 100%, then by all means, please tell me.

It is, but it only has 11 defense rating and 3 dodge rating. Total avoidance from that is 0.89%.
Shield of the Wayward Defender has 16 defense rating and 18 block rating. Total avoidance from that is 3.34%.

That's quite a difference to overcome. Yes, it's a blue for a lvl 65, but the Block rating it has makes it so good. There's only 2 shields with Block rating in TBC (according to Wowhead), the other being an Arcane resist shield. Not taking this shield requires quite a lot of avoidance you'll need to get from other gear.

However the sha'tar shield can be bumped 'easily' up to having 500 hp, on it's own, it's 200 extra ac, additionally, we're already scrimping on the hp and it's more our problem than mitigation/avoidance is in raids (trust me).
With my established gear already, I benefit far more from picking up the sha'tar shield than that one.

As I said, the whole gear is put together thought around the idea that, as long as Holy Shield is up, all hits become a block or better. Thus, no crushing blows and reducing all hits by the shield block value. Placing yourself below that 100% line to get slightly more health and armor, will not do you any good, if you open yourself to attacks that do more than 50% extra damage.

Any decent protection warrior pushes crushing blow off the table (their activate skill has 75% block chance, ours only has 35.08% block chance with the libram). By straining yourself a little to push crushing blow off the table as well, you stay only a little behind on the warrior migitation wise (slightly less armor, 6% flat damage migitation instead of 10%, less strength adding up to block value), and give the healers a smaller margin by having quite a bit less stamina. If you do not push crushing blows off the table, you'll still behind on warriors qua damage migitation and stamina, but you also allow mobs to hit you 50% harder.

If you don't want to push crushing blows off the table, don't use my set as a base, it's completely built around it. Instead, look for gear with a lot of armor and stamina on it. You'll be needing it to eat those crushing blows, a lot!

If that's really the case then;
Core Armour Kits(Old MC Generation Crafter) (Or Nethercleft Armour Kits (Exalted Cenarion Expedition)), AGI Enchants on Weapon and Gaunts.

The helm can happily be swapped out for the cheaper and easier to acquire; Fel Steel Helm.
The Bracers are good but you may wish to consider the Bracers of Dignity (Drops from last boss mana tombs @ heroic, take a good high dps group).
and the Belt for Sha'tari Vindicator's Waistguard (from "How to Break into Arcatraz" I think).

I wouldn't immediately replace anything else I think, if I was going for max mit/avoid but I'd be looking for better gloves..

Edit;
Oh as a side, I've tanked Maulgar and it really ain't pretty if you've gone for max avoidance, you really really need your HP before 25mans ^^;

Can't help you with retribution, but I can tell you what I'm aiming for for Protection. It's what I'm gonna gather, I'm not saying it's the best gear out there. I'm rather oriented on crushing blows, which might or might not be your thing:

Great read. thanks alot.
