Recently I started to get the disconnect problem as mentioned in other threads. I'd see players with Unknown as their name tag, and even though I could still move about I couldn't interact with any NPCs, the mailbox, the bank or the auction house. If I ran far enough then world objects wouldn't appear. Eventually I would be disconnected.

The odd thing is this doesn't happen to all my characters (and they are all on the same server). One of them seems to play fine. Another I can log in to, but thats it - once in I can move as described above, but I cannot interact with anything. It's a similar story with other characters. If it was a hardware or set-up issue then either the problem should be consistent across all characters.

What I eventually noticed was that the mail icon for the "problem" character never appeared in the circular top-right menu. I know this character has a very full mailbox, so it should be there. Another character that plays fine has the mail icon but does not have much mail at all.

I would guess therefore that the problem character is timing out while the server goes away to check the mail

Speculating then would the random disconnects be related to when the server is checking to see if there is unread mail for a character and timing out if there is too much to process?

Nice observation. It does not seem that unlikely, however, do you got any idea how full the mail box would be? Like 1 page of mails? Or 10 pages?

The problem guy has a full mailbox - about 6 or 7 pages, and quite a few of those mails are boxes with multiple items. The character that plays ok has about a page and a half.

Hi,

Sounds very much like a connection problem, take a look at the following article and check to see if any of the steps mentioned help.

http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=19465

If they don't locate your World of Warcraft installation folder and delete the WTF, Cache and Interface when the game is closed down. Restart the game and test to see if the same problem continues.

If you are still having issues after that please post back detailing the hardware you are using in your internet connection.

Thank you I now have managed to log in and play on the character that was unable to interact with anything immediately after logging in and then disconnecting a couple of minutes later. Here is what I found:

1) I looked through the add-ons that were enabled for each character. The one that was having real trouble had no add-ons enabled and still could not interact.

What I did notice was that for some of the other characters the enabled status of add-ons seemed to have become a little garbled - some add-ons were enabled that I wasn't expecting. I don't think this caused the main problem as the trouble character had no add-ons enabled but for the other characters it was odd.

2) Taking your advice I deleted the WDB folder from the Cache directory. The problem character loaded immediately! (and the mail icon appeared which it didnt before). As I expected he had 7 pages of mail waiting in the mailbox.

I didn't touch or clear the other folders. Seeing as the mail was the likely culprit the WDB folder with the itemcache file was the place to start and it worked first time.

FYI the old itemcache.wdb file was 5,930 kb in size, and wowcache.wdb was 500 kb exactly. No other .wdb file was larger than 300 kb. The new itecache file was 1,311 kb in size and the wowcache.wdb just 19k.

I don't think it's just you, or related to ingame mail, I'm havingthe same problem, on diff chars, different realms, and diff accounts.

Chars with no mail waitin, chars with mail waiting. I've deleted the WTF, cache and wdb folders, etc - no difference whatsoever.

I have 27ms latency, and high framerate - just no ability to interract with anyone/anything, and the same issue - travel far enough and you lose world elements.

I remember i fixed this problem the first time (after the patch). Now ive reinstalled and patched wow and getting the same problem again. I wish i could remember how i fixed it last time, something with replacing or deleting certain files... think i read it in a post which ofcourse i cant find anymore.

ive got a wireless and the usual deleting of wtf folders etc. and the faq dont work for me.
If anyone can remember an alternative way to fix this id be very glad to hear it.

its nothing to do with your mailbox, only reason why that dont show is like u said "its pretty much full & has ALOT of data to load, & because of the lagg..it takes the longest to load therefore you dont see it as u get chopped before its had chance to load due to bad latency.

basically its a conn prob like the rest of us :(
