I. Foreword for Warlock Forum

This post was originally posted in my guild’s forum, so you may excuse some of the references that take place. I though it might be useful to post it here as well, since I saw a relevant topic being brought up. My source for the data base presented on which I work, is www.wowwiki.com . It might be quite a boring read, but I think there are some interesting parts herein able to help anyone conduct his/her own research. So grab a cup of coffee (or 3 ;P) and enjoy!

II. Prologue:

This is a REALLY large post (even for my standards ...), so I’ve chosen to distribute it evenly in a number of posts to help both the first-hand reader and future reference. It is not research (for I personally haven’t collected any form of data. It’s more of a calculation based on formulae that other people have found regarding Warlock Spells. The values presented in this essay may not be the exact ones used by WoW game mechanics, but they certainly reach a number close to 100% relativity and thus can be very helpful when selecting gear, talent build, gameplay style and even cast sequence.

You will surely notice a great load of same-phrase repetition throughout the whole text. Indeed, there has been a lot of copy-paste during the making of this essay to help ease the burden of writing. I apologize for this lack of ingenuity in some fields, but it would have been a ton more work if I had avoided copy-paste. Trust me…

Let’s get a start on the point of analysing the Warlock Class and the Spell Combat Ratings.

I would like to discuss the equation mentioned in Marblus’post regarding consumables, while keeping in mind the lvl 70 values of those combat stats:

12,6 SpellHit Rating = 1% Spell Hit chance
22,1 SpellCrit Rating = 1% Spell Critical chance
(1 Intellect = 0,012 % Spell Critical Chance)

Q u o t e:
1 spell hit rating = 2 spell damage = 4 spell crit rating

(Note: Before I start explaining my opinion on the subject I have to say that this whole discussion regarding the 3 most important caster dps combat stats, namely spell damage, spellhit chance and spellcrit chance (spell haste is not widely used by our guild at the moment so I'll leave it out and spell penetration… well yeah) derives from Marblus post but I'm perfectly aware that our beloved officer already knows much on those things. I just ceased the opportunity to start a relevant discussion).

(From now on and for repetition issues, combat stats will refer only to SpellCrit, SpellHit and Spell Damage)

This is a highly generalized equation and unless it's being subjected to particular consequences it serves no use at all.

First of all, spell hit combat rating has almost no use in PvP. So as far as PvP is concerned, the above equation could only be discussed in terms of spell crit and spell damage, but PvP is not my concern at the moment.

Now, in terms of PvE (which we are most interested in).
Let's take 2 imaginary untalented 70 level Warlock gear setups into consideration:

1. Set-up A comprised of gear that combines all 3 caster combat ratings:
Spell Damage= 550 , Spell Crit Rating= 144 (6,41%), Spell Hit Rating= 38 (3,08%).
Gear and base intellect stat total in 300 Intellect (3,6% Spell Crit chance).
So according to the equation above (if we want to turn them all in spell damage), setup A has a
Total Spell Damage`= (SP 550) + ([SC 10% = 221 SCR / 2] = SP 115,5) + ([SHR 38 x 2] =SP 76) = 550 + 115,5 + 76 = SP 692.
(SP = Spell Power or Spell damage, SC = Spell critical chance, SCR = Spell crit rating, SHR = Spell hit rating).

2. Set-up B comprised of gear that only add stats and spell power stat has
Spell Damage= 626.
Gear and base intellect stat total in 500 Intellect (6% Spell Crit Chance).
So according to the equation above (if we want to turn them all in spell damage), setup B has a
Total Spell Damage`= (SP 626) + ([SC 6% = 132,6 SCR / 2] = SP 66) = 626 + 66 = SP 692.

So, according to the above equation those 2 Warlock setups are "equal" since they share the same amount of Spell Power. Now let's take a look at the effectiveness of each of those 2 setups against PvE encounters, namely vs a 70 level mob and vs a l73 level mob.
I will examine the effectiveness through the use of the most widely known (and possibly used) Warlock spell, the Shadow Bolt.

Shadow Bolt (Rank 11): 541 - 603 Shadow Damage, 3sec cast.
The equation to define Shadow Bolt's true damage, when Spell Power (Shadow) is incorporated, for an untalented Warlock is:

(541 - 603) + (SP x 85,71%)

For setup A that means: (541 - 603) + (550 x 85,71%) = 1012 - 1074 AVERAGE = 1043

For setup B that means: (541 - 603) + (626 x 85,71%) = 1078 - 1140 AVERAGE = 1109

IMPORTANT:It is very important to know that spell combat differs from physical combat in regard to how the various percentages affect the “roll” the game mechanics use to have a result. In physical combat, all percentages (hit chance, critical chance, enemiy’s block – parry – dodge chance, etc) are rolled in one table. That said, it is possible if someone has extreme ratings in critical chance to ensure a 100% critical chance when he actually hits the enemy. (For example a rogue may have a 65% critical chance, 5% miss chance and his enemy has 10% block chance, 10% dodge chance and 10% parry chance. Every blow that hits is guaranteed a critical strike).
In spell combat however things are not quite the same, when a spell is able to critically strike. You see, us spellcasters’ “roll” is rolled in 2 different tables. The first roll is made to find out whether the spell hits or not. Only after the spell has successfully landed, will a second roll be made in order to examine whether it crits or not. To make a long story short, for a spellcaster to achieve the same effect as a physical damage dealer (i.e. to have a guaranteed critical whenever his blows – spells land) it would require him/her to have a 100% spell critical chance…

That matter aside, let’s get on with the analysis of the A and B setup:

1. VS Level 70
Let's see the effectiveness of each set up after 100 Shadow Bolts to that target.

Since player and mob have the same level the spell miss chance is 4%. (This value cannot go below 1% vs any target no matter the characters SpellHit chance or rating). Since they both share the same value of spell penetration, I will not bother with partial resists. The spell is either being missed or landed for full damage.

Set Up A: 99 out of 100 shadow bolts will land. From those, 9,9 will be criticals (+50% damage)

AverageDamageA: (89,1 x 1043) + [9,9 x (1043 x 1,5)] = 92931 + 15488,55 = 108419,85

Set Up B: 96 out of 100 shadow bolts will land. From those, 5,76 will be criticals.

AverageDamageB: (90,24 x 1109) + [5,76 x (1109 x 1,5)] = 100076.16 + 9581,76 = 109657,92

2. VS Level 73

Set Up A: 86,08 out of 100 shadow bolts will land. From those 8,608 will be criticals.

AverageDamageA (77,472 x 1043) + [8,608 x (1043 x 1,5)] = 80803,296 + 13467.216 = 94270,512

Set Up B: 83 out of 100 shadow bolts will land. From those 4,98 will be criticals.

AverageDamageB (78,02 x 1109) + [4,98 x (1109 x 1,5)] = 86524,18 + 8284,23 = 94808,41

From this really simple demonstration we may jump into 2 conclusions:

1. The equation in a fairly simple and plain environment appears to be highly truthful, as the deviations between the damage output of the 2 steups is around 1% in the first case (lvl 70) and around 0,5% in the second case.

2. Pure Spell Power has the upper hand in the first case while all 3 caster combat stats are gaining up and pretty close to reach pure Spell Power’s results in the latter case. (But that's where we need it the most, vs Boss fights). One thing to note is that in the first case, Setup A “loses” the benefits of Spellhit chance above 3% (that 0,08%), that could explain the larger deviation vs a level 70.

However, although the results from these plain examples almost verify the mentioned equation, they are unrealistic. First, because no talents were used (cornering stone of any warlock’s effectiveness) and Shadow Bolt takes into effect all 3 combat stats (while other Warlock spells do not have a Critical chance).
What we really want to see is the interrelation of each combat stat, when all possible talent combination is taken into account and for all warlock spells.

I will now list which Warlock talents have any effect to the matter in question

III. WARLOCK TALENTS:

1. Affliction:

* Suppression: 2% / 4% / 6% / 8% / 10% bonus SpellHit chance for AFFLICTION spells, namely: All Curses, Corruption, Fear, Drain Life / Mana / Soul spells, Siphon Life, Unstable Affliction, Death Coil and Seed of Corruption. (I have a suspicion it works as Spell Penetration as well although it’s not verified).

* Improved Curse of Agony: 5/10% Increased damage on CoA.

* Amplify Curse: Every 3 mins, a CoA or CoD that lands, does +50% damage.

* Empowered Corruption: 112% / 124% / 136% of your Shadow Damage applies to Corruption spell.

* Shadow Mastery: All shadow spells (Corruption, CoA, CoD, Drain Life, Siphon Life, Unstable Affliction, Death Coil, Seed of Corruption, Shadow Bolt and Shadow Burn) deal (and heal where applicable) 2% / 4% / 6% / 8% / 10% more damage.

* Contagion: Corruption, CoA and Seed of Corruption inflict 1% / 2% / 3% / 4% / 5% more damage.

2. Demonology:

* Demonic Aegis: Provides a bonus of +10 / +20 / +30 Spell Damage. (I make the assumption that all warlocks use Fel Armor. To be honest, I can find no circumstance that Demon Armor might prove more useful than Fel Armor).

* Demonic Sacrifice:
- Imp: All fire spells’ (Immolate, Conflagrate, Soulfire, Searing Pain, Incinerate, Hellfire and Rain of Fire) damage is increased by 15%.
- Succubus: All shadow spells (Corruption, CoA, CoD, Drain Life, Siphon Life, Unstable Affliction, Death Coil, Seed of Corruption, Shadow Bolt and Shadow Burn) deal (and heal where applicable) 15% more damage.
- Felguard: All shadow spells (Corruption, CoA, CoD, Drain Life, Siphon Life, Unstable Affliction, Death Coil, Seed of Corruption, Shadow Bolt and Shadow Burn) deal (and heal where applicable) 10% more damage. (Well, I don’t recommend this way of seeing the sacrifice spell ;P).

* Master Demonologist:

- Succubus: All damage spells receive a 10% bonus to damage. (AS LONG AS YOUR DEMON IS ALIVE!).
- Felguard: All damage spells receive a 5% bonus to damage. (AS LONG AS YOUR DEMON IS ALIVE!).

* Soul Link: All damage spells receive a 3% bonus to damage. (AS LONG AS YOUR DEMON IS ALIVE!).

* Demonic Knowledge: This talent increases your Spell Damage by a percentage of the total of your active pet’s Stamina and Intellect. An average of 60 Spell Power bonus at 3/3 rank is a typical sum I think.

* Demonic tactics: 1% / 2% / 3% / 4% / 5% bonus SpellCrit chance. This bonus applies to all spells that may crit. (This isn’t portrayed under the Critical chance on the Spell tab in the Character Screen).

3. Destruction:

* Bane: Reduces the casting time of Shadowbolt, Immolate and Soulfire. Although this talent (along with Improved Corruption under Affliction tree) doesn’t directly contribute to any of the 3 combat stats, it influences the potential DPS of a warlock. In 15 seconds, 5 shadow bolts may be fired without Bane, whereas with Bane they rise to 6 Shadow Bolts). This talent is an absolute must for raiding warlocks. It is really low on the Talent tier (only 10 talent points needed), it applies to the most widely used spell, the Shadow Bolt, almost for every spec and is perfectly combined with Improved Shadow Bolt. In any case, I cannot find a viable raiding build that cannot afford 5 talent points in Bane (unless maybe a pure offtank talent build for specialised fights). Anyway, I’ve already drifted far away from the main point of this post].

* Devastation: 1% / 2% / 3% / 4% / 5% bonus SpellCrit chance for DESTRUCTION spells, namely: Shadow Bolt, Immolate, Incinerate, Searing Pain, Shadow Burn, Conflagrate, Soulfire. (This isn’t portrayed under the Critical chance on the Spell tab in the Character Screen).

* Improved Searing Pain: 4% / 7% / 10% bonus SpellCrit chance for Searing Pain spell only. (This isn’t portrayed under the Critical chance on the Spell tab in the Character Screen).
* Improved Immolate: Increases the initial damage of Immolate by 5% / 10% / 15% / 20% /25%.

* Ruin: Increases the critical strike damage bonus of your DESTRUCTION spells, namely: Shadow Bolt, Immolate, Incinerate, Searing Pain, Shadow Burn, Conflagrate, Soulfire by 100%. 2 notes here: Both Seed of Corruption’s effect and Unstable Affliction dispel effect are capable of critical strikes. However, they are not affected by Ruin. The 100% increase is on Critical Strike Damage and not overall spell’s damage. To make it simple, a Shadow Bolt critical without Ruin will inflict 1,5 of it’s noncrit damage. Same critical with Ruin will inflict 100% of it’s noncrit value.
No Ruin Critical = Base Spell Dmg + Critical Damage = 100%BSP + 50%BSP = 150% BSP.
Ruin Critical = Base Spell Dmg + 2 x Critical Damage = 100% BSP + 2 x (50%BSP) = 200% BSP. Where BSP = Base Spell Damage.

* Emberstorm: All fire spells’ (Immolate, Conflagrate, Soulfire, Searing Pain, Incinerate, Hellfire and Rain of Fire) damage is increased by 2% / 4% / 6% / 8% / 10%.

* Backlash: 1% / 2% / 3% / 4% / 5% bonus SpellCrit chance. This bonus applies to all spells that may crit. (This isn’t portrayed under the Critical chance on the Spell tab in the Character Screen).

* Shadow and Flame: 104% / 108% / 112% / 116% / 120% of your Spell damage applies to Shadow Bolt (Shadow Damage) and Incinerate (Fire Damage).

These are all the Warlock Talents that affect directly the 3 combat stats.
Next I will try to list all combat warlock spells and how they are affected by the various talents.

IV. WARLOCK SPELLS:

Before examining each spell I will explain the template I’m gonna use to analyze each and every spell. Note that I use last rank of each spell.

Spell Name: Doh, I wonder what goes here…
Mana: Also, pretty self-explanatory don’t you think? ;D
Casting Time: Base casting time of the spell and altered by talents (if applicable).
Duration: Duration of DoT (if applicable otherwise instant)
Capable of Critical: Yes, No or specific occasion.
Spell Damage Type: Fire or Shadow.
Coefficient: The percentage of Spell Power that applies to the spell’s damage output.
Relevant Talents: Talents from the list above that may affect the said spell. Talents found in parentheses are either not included on the above list or do not affect the 3 combat stats directly.
Base Formula: The formula to describe the spell’s damage with no talents effecting it.
Talented Formula(e): How the Base Formula is altered through the use of one talent or a combination of talents. For ease, I will calculate the talented formulae with maxed rank on the relevant talent(s). (Only realistic talent combinations. You will not find a Shadow Bolt formula with both Shadow Mastery and Shadow and Flame affecting it).
Notes: Anything worth mentioning that doesn’t fill in the fields above.
SP = Spell Power (of the relevant spell school if higher amount than generic Spell Damage).

The following spells will be analyzed: Corruption, Curse of Agony, Curse of Doom, Siphon Life, Drain Life, Death Coil, Shadow Burn, Shadow Bolt.
Also, Immolate, Searing Pain, Incinerate, Soulfire, Conflagrate.

ASSUMPTIONS:
1. Because I have no insight on the order of the damage amplifications regarding each spell formula, I will add them up in one coefficient. For example Amplify Curse and Shadow mastery (5/5) combined on Curse of Agony will combine in (Curse of Agony Damage) x (1 + 0,1 + 0,5) = (CoA Dmg) x 1,6.
2. Also, I make the assumption (this might as well hold true but it’s not verified) that all damage amplifications that are not specifically assigned to Spell Power only (Empowered Corruption and Shadow and Flame) apply to both the Basic Damage of the spell and it’s SP coefficient.
3. All channelling spells or spells that have a DoT component are supposed to last for their whole duration.
4. For all spells that include a damage range in their base formula, the average will be for ease of reference (and my own ofc ;P).
5. Talents Shadow and Flame and Empowered Corruption change the coefficients to their respective spells. They simply add another 20%/36% towards the coeffciecient.

Throughout the calculations, I will try to maintain up to 3 decimal numbers.
Talent combinations which are underlined signify the largest damage output for selected spell

Ok then (wipes sweat from his brow), let us start:

*******************************************************************

1. Corruption:
Casting Time: 2 seconds, 1,6 seconds, instant.
Duration: 18 seconds
Mana: 370
Capable of Critical: No
Spell Damage Type: Shadow.
Coefficient: 93%
Relevant Talents: (Improved Corruption), Suppression, Empowered Corruption, Shadow Mastery, Contagion, Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus and Felguard only), Master Demonologist (Succubus and Felguard only), Soul Link.

Base Formula: 900 + (0,93 x SP)

Empowered Corruption: 900 + [(0,93 + 0,36) x SP)] = 900 + (1,29 x SP)

Shadow Mastery: [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,10 = 990 + (1,023 x SP)

Contagion: [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,05 = 945 + (0,9765 x SP)

Demonic Sacrifice {Succubus): [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,15 = 1035 + (1,07 x SP)

Demonic Sacrifice {Felguard): [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,10 = 990 + (1,023 x SP)

Master Demonologist (Succubus): [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,10 = 990 + (1,023 x SP)

Master Demonologist (Felguard): [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,05 = 945 + (0,9765 x SP)

Soul Link: [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,03 = 927 + (0,958 x SP)

Empowered Corruption and Shadow Mastery: [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,1 = 990 + (1,42 x SP)

Empowered Corruption, Shadow Mastery and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,25 = 1125 + (1,612 x SP)

Empowered Corruption, Shadow Mastery and Soul Link: [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,13 = 1017 + (1,458 x SP)

Empowered Corruption, Shadow Mastery and Contagion: [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,15 = 1035 + (1,483 x SP)

Empowered Corruption and Contagion: [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,05 = 945 + (1,354 x SP)

Empowered Corruption and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,15 = 1035 + (1,483 x SP)

Empowered Corruption and Demonic Sacrifice (Felguard): [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,1 = 990 + (1,42 x SP)

Empowered Corruption and Master Demonologist (Succubus): [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,1 = 990 + (1,42 x SP)

Empowered Corruption, Master Demonologist (Succubus)and Soul Link: [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,13 = 1017 + (1,457 x SP)

Empowered Corruption and Master Demonologist (Felguard): [900 + (1,29 x SP)] x 1,05 = 945 + (1,354 x SP)

Empowered Corruption, Master Demonologist (Felguard) and Soul Link: [900 + (1,29 x SP)]] x 1,08 = 972 + (1,393 x SP)

Master Demonologist (Succubus) and Soul Link: [900 + (0,93 x SP)]x 1,13 = 1017 + (1,05 x SP)

Master Demonologist (Felguard) and Soul Link: [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,08 = 972 + SP

Shadow Mastery and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,25 = 1125 + (1,162 x SP)

Shadow Mastery and Master Demonologist (Succubus): [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,20 = 1080 + (1,116 x SP)

Shadow Mastery and Soul Link: [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,13 = 1017 + (1,05 x SP)

Shadow Mastery, Master Demonologist (Succubus) and Soul Link: [900 + (0,93 x SP)] x 1,23 = 1107 + ( 1,144 x SP)

Notes: I have written 3 different cast times. 2sec is when no points are spent on Improved Corruption. 1,6 is at 1/5 Imp Cor and instant at 5/5 Imp Cor. To me there’s no other choice because placing 3/5 at Imp Cor for instance, will make it a 0,8 sec spell which serves nothing. It isn’t instant with the ease of casting even when moving. You still have to wait for 0,7 sec global cd. So it’s 2 talent points wasted. Talent points for Improved Corruption should be 5, 1 or none.

Notes: Although I do not usually take into consideration raid debuffs when calculating a spell’s various formulae, in this case I’ve taken into account the Immolate debuff because it’s included in the spell’s tooltip. The Immolate debuff need not be of the Warlock who’s casting Incinerate

Spell formulae is finally over…
Anyone may use these to make his/her own calculations.
I repeat, these may not be the exact formulae used by WoW’s game mechanics however they seem quite logical and can therefore be used in regard to evaluating the effectiveness of the combat stats.

Let’s continue with the real interest of this essay:

V. POSSIBLE TALENT SPECIALIZATIONS AND DAMAGE

Here I will try to list 4 different talent combinations and how these talent builds affect the effectiveness of a Warlock with set stats.
(Talent builds are taken from either warlocks of our guild or possible other builds).

The Warlock with gear has (only buff is Fel Armor):

Spell Power: 900 (Both Fire and Shadow)
Spell Hit Rating: 101 (8%)
Spell Critical Chance: 10%
Spell Critical Rating: 102 (4,6%)
Intellect: 450 (5,4% Spell Critical Chance from stat)

The above stats are easily attainable for a raiding Warlock in our guild, and also correspond more or less to the actual stats of Equilibrium’s raiding Warlocks.
I know that usually Shadow Power is greater than Fire Power, but I have set them equal for ease of reference.

Analysis of each talent build has certain assumptions made beforehand:

1. The battle in which I’ll test each build’s effectiveness will be versus a single level 73 enemy.
2. The cast sequence (type and order of spells utilized during combat) is supposed to be optimum to some extent and continuous. Latency is 0 ms.
3. The fight is assumed to last 10 minutes more or less.
4. The spell sequence is assumed to last around 9 minutes, to allow for utilization of Life Taps, Dark Pacts, Mana/Health Pots and Healthstones, Soulshatter, Bandages and their respective cooldowns and slight movement during the encounter (in any case, I use around 10% of the whole duration of the fight as the time when the lock does anything else but casting damage-dealing spells).
5. No kind of procs which affect Spell Power, Casting Time or any other similar random factors are taken into consideration through the analysis (eg. Skyfire Meta-Gem). Same applies to various set bonuses (eg. Voidheart 4-set bonus).
6 The damage output will be on averages and not minimum and maximum range.
7. Each spell used in the cast sequence will have its damage output calculated based on the already stated formulae, using the 3 combat stats of the Warlock template mentioned and the relevant talent build.
8. Warlock pets deal no damage at all. (To try and analyze the possibility of having warlock pets dealing damage as well, would make this essay even longer than it currently is and would also serve very little as it’s obvious very few raiding warlocks use their pets for damage in end-content raids).
9. No partial resists due to enemies’ resistance are considered. Spells are either totally missed or landed for full damage.
10. The logical approach to a situation when one of a Warlock’s DoT spells get’s resisted is to recast it at that time. However, since this is extremely difficult to incorporate in a valid spell sequence I will not take this situation into account. After all, the same assumptions will affect all talent build analyses and my goal at this point is not to calculate the exact possible damage of a set build. I rather want to see the interrelation between the 3 combat stats and how the effectiveness of each build is changed through changing the values of the 3 combat stats.
11. Although I have also included mana requirements for all spells discussed, mana is not an issue while analyzing.

1. Heavy Affliction (42/8/11)

aTalents of Interest:

Suppression: 1/5
Improved Corruption: 5/5
Improved Curse of Agony: 2/2
Amplify Curse: 1/1
Empowered Corruption: 3/3
Siphon Life: 1/1
Shadow Mastery: 5/5
Contagion: 5/5
Unstable Affliction: 1/1
Bane: 5/5 (Although, this talent has nothing to do with the 3 combat stats, it greatly affects cast sequence and dps)
Shadowburn: 1/1

b. Combat stats altered through talent built:

Spell Hit Chance: 8% for Fire and Destruction Shadow Spells, 10% for Affliction spells.
Spell Crit Chance: 10%. No changes.

c. Spells and formulae relevant to this build:

Corruption:
Empowered Corruption, Shadow Mastery and Contagion: 1035 + (1,483 x 900) = 2370

Curse of Agony:
Improved CoA, Shadow Mastery and Contagion: = 1695 + (1,5 x 900) = 3045
Amplify Curse, Improved CoA, Shadow Mastery and Contagion:]2373 + (2,1 x 900) = 4263

Curse of Doom:
Shadow Mastery: 4620 + (2,2 x 900) = 6600
Amplify Curse and Shadow Mastery: 6720 + (3,2 x 900) = 9600

Siphon Life:
Shadow Mastery: 693 + (1,1 x 900) = 1683

Drain Life:
Shadow Mastery: 594 + (1,1 x 900) = 1584

Unstable Affliction:
Shadow Mastery: 1155 + (1,32 x 900) = 2343

Immolate:
Total: DD + DoT = 942 + (0,82 x 900) = 1680
Critical: (DD x 1,5) + DoT = 1105,5 + (0,945 x 900) = 1956

Shadow Bolt:
Shadow Mastery:629.2 + (0,943 x 900) = 1478
Critical: 943,8 + (1,414 x 900) = 2216

d. Spell sequence and build’s effectiveness.

Spell sequence will be divided into 3 parts. 1st is if the warlock is tasked to curse the mob with a non-damage-dealing Curse (CoS, CoE, etc). 2nd will be if the warlock uses Curse of Agony on the enemy. 3rd part will display the relevant cast sequence when the warlock brings Doom on the unfortunate little soon-to-be dead creature .

1. Non – damage – dealing Curse
A reasonable spell sequence for this build would be:

Curse – Unstable Affliction – Corruption – Siphon Life – Immolate – Shadow Bolt – (renew DoTs when they fade out allowing for a full duration of the respective spell, keep Shadow Bolt spamming., Life Tap – Dark Pact, pot or bandage or whatever else when needed).

After a slight research on this specific cast sequence my findings regarding this build for a 10min more or less duration fight (including roughly 1 min of non-damage-dealing spellcasting) are:

4 x Curse of ….(4 x 260 = 1040 mana)
30 x Unstable Affliction (30 x 400 = 12000 mana)
30 x Corruption (30 x 370 = 11100 mana)
20 x Soul Siphon (20 x 410 = 8200 mana)
35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
140 x Shadow Bolt (140 x 420 = 58800 mana)
Total Casting Time: 528,5 seconds.

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for Curse, Unstable Affliction, Corruption and Soul Siphon is 10%.
Spell Hit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 8%.
Spell Crit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 10%.

Unstable Affliction:

27,9 out of 30 will land: Damage = 27,9 x 2343 = 65370

Corruption:

27,9 out of 30 will land: Damage = 27,9 x 2370 = 66123

Siphon Life:

18,6 out of 20 will land: Damage = 18,6 x 1683 = 31304

Immolate:

31,85 out of 35 will land. 3,185 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 28,665 x 1680 = 48157,2
Critical Damage = 3,185 x 1956 = 6229,86
Total = 54387

Shadow Bolt:

127,4 out of 140 will land. 12,74 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 114,66 x 1478 = 169467,5
Critical Damage = 12,74 x 2216 = 28231,8
Total = 197699

Total Damage: 414883

2. Curse of Agony

Spell sequence: Curse of Agony – Unstable Affliction – Corruption – Siphon Life – Immolate – Shadow Bolt – (renew DoTs when they fade out allowing for a full duration of the respective spell, keep Shadow Bolt spamming., Life Tap – Dark Pact, pot or bandage or whatever else when needed).

After a slight research on this specific cast sequence my findings regarding this build for a 10min more or less duration fight (including roughly 1 min of non-damage-dealing spellcasting) are:

25 x Curse of Agony (25 x 265 = 6625 mana)
30 x Unstable Affliction (30 x 400 = 12000 mana)
30 x Corruption (30 x 370 = 11100 mana)
20 x Soul Siphon (20 x 410 = 8200 mana)
35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
130 x Shadow Bolt (130 x 420 = 54600 mana)
Total Casting Time: 535 seconds

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for Curse of Agony, Unstable Affliction, Corruption and Soul Siphon is 10%.
Spell Hit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 8%.
Spell Crit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 10%.

Curse of Agony

23,25 out of 25 will land. 3 of them will be Amplified.
Base: 20,25 x 3045 = 61661,2
Amplified: 3 x 4263 = 12789
Total: 74450

Unstable Affliction:

27,9 out of 30 will land: Damage = 27,9 x 2343 = 65370

Corruption:

27,9 out of 30 will land: Damage = 27,9 x 2370 = 66123

Siphon Life:

18,6 out of 20 will land: Damage = 18,6 x 1683 = 31304

Immolate:

31,85 out of 35 will land. 3,185 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 28,665 x 1680 = 48157,2
Critical Damage = 3,185 x 1956 = 6229,86
Total = 54387

Shadow Bolt:

118,3 out of 130 will land. 11,83 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 106,47 x 1478 = 157362,7
Critical Damage = 11,83 x 2216 = 26215,3
Total = 183578

Total Damage: 475212

3. Curse of Doom

Spell sequence: Curse – Unstable Affliction – Corruption – Siphon Life – Immolate – Shadow Bolt – (renew DoTs when they fade out allowing for a full duration of the respective spell, keep Shadow Bolt spamming., Life Tap – Dark Pact, pot or bandage or whatever else when needed).

After a slight research on this specific cast sequence my findings regarding this build for a 10min more or less duration fight (including roughly 1 min of non-damage-dealing spellcasting) are:

10 x Curse of Doom (10 x 380 = 3800)
30 x Unstable Affliction (30 x 400 = 12000 mana)
30 x Corruption (30 x 370 = 11100 mana)
20 x Soul Siphon (20 x 410 = 8200 mana)
35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
140 x Shadow Bolt (140 x 420 = 58800 mana)
Total Casting Time: 537,5 seconds.

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for Curse of Doom, Unstable Affliction, Corruption and Soul Siphon is 10%.
Spell Hit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 8%.
Spell Crit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 10%.

Curse of Doom:
Curse of Doom is a special case. When it gets resisted, it cannot be reapplied instantly. Rather the lock has to wait for the 1 minute cooldown to recast. Usual in those cases is to use Curse of Agony. For the sake of this analysis, I will assume ALL Curses of Doom will land.

10 Curses of Doom will land, of which 3 will be Amplified:
Base: 7 x 6600 = 46200
Amplified: 3 x 9600 = 28800
Total Damage = 75000

Unstable Affliction:

27,9 out of 30 will land: Damage = 27,9 x 2343 = 65370

Corruption:

27,9 out of 30 will land: Damage = 27,9 x 2370 = 66123

Siphon Life:

18,6 out of 20 will land: Damage = 18,6 x 1683 = 31304

Immolate:

31,85 out of 35 will land. 3,185 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 28,665 x 1680 = 48157,2
Critical Damage = 3,185 x 1956 = 6229,86
Total = 54387

Shadow Bolt:

127,4 out of 140 will land. 12,74 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 114,66 x 1478 = 169467,5
Critical Damage = 12,74 x 2216 = 28231,8
Total = 197699

Total Damage: 489883

Conclusions for Heavy Affliction build:

We notice that the difference between 2 and 3 is 14671 damage or a 3,08 % increase in 2’s total damage. Bear in mind though that in calculating Curse of Doom spell’s damage I assumed all spells will land, whereas in the case of Curse of Agony the miss chance played a role. If we take a closer look though we’ll surely notice that this variation in total damage isn’t caused by the damage output between Curse of Doom and Curse of Agony. Rather, the Curse of Agony alternative “sacrifices” 10 Shadow Bolts in total, in order to cast 25 x Curse of Agony as opposed to 10 x Curse of Doom. (15 more 1,5 global cooldowns equal 22,5 seconds, i.e. 9 Shadow Bolts. One more Shadow Bolt is viable because our priority is for DoTs to last their full duration).

Assumption: The Demonic Sacrifice applies to Succubus pet only.
Note: Instead of procuring another bunch of math here, I will manually implement how the 4/5 Shadow Mastery affects the spell formulae.

Corruption:

Empowered Corruption, Shadow Mastery (4/5) and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 1107 + (1,587 x 900) = 2535

Curse of Agony:

Improved CoA, Shadow Mastery (4/5) and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 1803,5 + (1,596 x SP) = 3240
Amplify Curse, Improved CoA, Shadow Mastery (4/5) and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 2481,5 + (2,196 x 900) = 4458

Curse of Doom:

Shadow Mastery (4/5) and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 5166 + (2,46 x 900) = 7380
Amplify Curse, Shadow Mastery (4/5) and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 7266 + (3,46 x 900) = 10380

Siphon Life:

Shadow Mastery (4/5) and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 774,9 + (1,23 x 900) = 1882

Drain Life:

Shadow Mastery (4/5) and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus):
664,2 + (1,23 x 900) = 1771

Immolate:

Total: DD + DoT = 942 + (0,82 x 900) = 1680
Critical: (DD x 1,5) + DoT = 1105,5 + (0,945 x 900) = 1956

Shadow Bolt:

Shadow Mastery (4/5) and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 703,5 + (1,054 x 900) = 1652
Critical: 1055,2 + (1,581 x 900) = 2478

Curse – Corruption – Siphon Life – Immolate – Shadow Bolt – (renew DoTs when they fade out allowing for a full duration of the respective spell, keep Shadow Bolt spamming., Life Tap, pot or bandage or whatever else when needed).

After a slight research on this specific cast sequence my findings regarding this build for a 10min more or less duration fight (including roughly 1 min of non-damage-dealing spellcasting) are:

4 x Curse of ….(4 x 260 = 1040 mana)
30 x Corruption (30 x 370 = 11100 mana)
20 x Soul Siphon (20 x 410 = 8200 mana)
35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
160 x Shadow Bolt (160 x 420 = 67200 mana)
Total Casting Time: 533,5 seconds

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for Curse, Corruption and Soul Siphon is 14%.
Spell Hit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 8%.
Spell Crit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 10%.

Corruption:

29,1 out of 30 will land: Damage = 29,1 x 2535 = 73768

Siphon Life:

19,4 out of 20 will land: Damage = 19,4 x 1882 = 36511

Immolate:

31,85 out of 35 will land. 3,185 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 28,665 x 1680 = 48157,2
Critical Damage = 3,185 x 1956 = 6229,86
Total = 54387

Shadow Bolt:

145,6 out of 160 will land. 14,56 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 131,04 x 1652 = 216478
Critical Damage = 14,56 x 2478 = 36080
Total = 252558

Total Damage: 417224

After a slight research on this specific cast sequence my findings regarding this build for a 10min more or less duration fight (including roughly 1 min of non-damage-dealing spellcasting) are:

25 x Curse of Agony (25 x 265 = 6625 mana)
30 x Corruption (30 x 370 = 11100 mana)
20 x Soul Siphon (20 x 410 = 8200 mana)
35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
150 x Shadow Bolt (150 x 420 = 63000 mana)
Total Casting Time: 540

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for Curse of Agony, Corruption and Soul Siphon is 14%.
Spell Hit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 8%.
Spell Crit Chance for Immolate and Shadow Bolt is 10%.

Curse of Agony

24,25 out of 25 will land. 3 of them will be Amplified.
Base: 21,25 x 3240 = 68850
Amplified: 3 x 4458 = 13374
Total: 82224

Corruption:

29,1 out of 30 will land: Damage = 29.1 x 2535 = 73768

Siphon Life:

19,4 out of 20 will land: Damage = 19,4 x 1882 = 36511

Immolate:

31,85 out of 35 will land. 3,185 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 28,665 x 1680 = 48157,2
Critical Damage = 3,185 x 1956 = 6229,86
Total = 54387

Shadow Bolt:

136,5 out of 150 will land. 13,65 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 122,85 x 1652 = 202948
Critical Damage = 13,65 x 2478 = 33825
Total = 236773

Total Damage: 483663

3. Curse of Doom

Spell sequence: Curse – Corruption – Siphon Life – Immolate – Shadow Bolt – (renew DoTs when they fade out allowing for a full duration of the respective spell, keep shadow bolt spamming., life tap – dark pact, pot or bandage or whatever else when needed).

After a slight research on this specific cast sequence my findings regarding this build for a 10min more or less duration fight (including roughly 1 min of non-damage-dealing spellcasting) are:

10 x Curse of Doom (10 x 380 = 3800 mana)
30 x Corruption (30 x 370 = 11100 mana)
20 x Soul Siphon (20 x 410 = 8200 mana)
35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
160 x Shadow Bolt (160 x 420 = 67200 mana)
Total Casting Time: 542,5

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for Curse of Doom, Corruption and Soul Siphon is 14%.

Base: 7 x 7380 = 51660
Amplified: 3 x 10380 = 31140
Total Damage = 82800

Total = 54387

Shadow Bolt:

145,6 out of 160 will land. 14,56 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 131,04 x 1652 = 216478
Critical Damage = 14,56 x 2478 = 36080
Total = 252558

Total Damage: 500024

Conclusions for Hybrid towards Affliction build:

We notice that the difference between 2 and 3 is 16361 damage or a 3,38 % increase in 2’s total damage.

3. Shadow Mastery and Conflagrate (30/0/31)

aTalents of Interest:

Suppression: 2/5
Improved Corruption: 5/5
Improved Curse of Agony: 2/2
Amplify Curse: 1/1
Empowered Corruption: 3/3
Siphon Life: 1/1
Shadow Mastery: 5/5
Bane: 5/5 (Although, this talent has nothing to do with the 3 combat stats, it greatly affects cast sequence and dps)
Shadowburn: 1/1
Devastation: 5/5
Ruin: 1/1
Improved Immolate: 5/5
Emberstorm: 4/5
Conflagrate: 1/1

b. Combat stats altered through talent built:

Spell Hit Chance: 8% for Fire and Destruction Shadow Spells, 12% for Affliction spells.
Spell Crit Chance: 15%. (Devastation).

c. Spells and formulae relevant to this build:

Note: Instead of procuring another bunch of math here, I will manually implement how the 4/5 Emberstorm affects the spell formulae.
Furthermore, I will deduce 1 DoT tick when calculating Immolate’s total damage. The reason for this is the use of the Conflagrate spell. Conflagrate’s optimum use suggests we cast it anytime between the 12,1th and the 14,9th second of the Immolate’s DoT component duration, so we only sacrifice 1/5 of the DoT’s total damage (i.e. least possible). Thus, when referring to the DoT formulae to calculate damage output for this build, I will multiply it by 4/5 (0,8) to achieve a as-close-to-realistic-as-possible view of Immolate’s damage with this build.

Corruption:
Empowered Corruption and Shadow Mastery: 990 + (1,42 x 900) = 2268

Curse of Agony:
Improved CoA and Shadow Mastery: 1627,2 + (1,44 x 900) = 2923
Amplify Curse, Improved CoA and Shadow Mastery: 2305,2 + (2,04 x 900) = 4141

Curse of Doom:
Shadow Mastery: 4620 + (2,2 x 900) = 6600
Amplify Curse and Shadow Mastery:6720 + (3,2 x 900) = 9600

Siphon Life:

Drain Life:
Shadow Mastery: 594 + (1,1 x 900) = 1584

Immolate (with Conflagrate in mind):
Improved Immolate and Emberstorm (4/5):
a. DD: 435 + (0,332 x 900) = 734
b. DoT : [664.2 + (0,615 x 900)] x 0,8 = 974

Total: DD + DoT = 1708
Critical with Ruin: (DD x 2) + DoT = 2442

Conflagrate:
Emberstorm (4/5): 702 + (0,462 x 900) = 1118
Critical with Ruin = [702 + (0,462 x 900)] x 2 = 2236

Shadow Bolt:
Shadow Mastery: 629.2 + (0,943 x 900) = 1478

Shadow and Flame: 5/5

b. Combat stats altered through talent built:

Spell Hit Chance: 8 %. (No change).
Spell Crit Chance: 18 %. (Devastation + Backlash).

c. Spells and formulae relevant to this build:

Assumption: The Demonic Sacrifice applies to Succubus pet only.
Notes: Although there are Warlocks who are fond of using Incinerate as their primary nuking spell, I will make the analysis using Shadow Bolt. Not only for comparison issues with the other talent builds already stated but because I’m more of a shadowy type of guy myself ;P
Furthermore, I will deduce 1 DoT tick when calculating Immolate’s total damage. The reason for this is the use of the Conflagrate spell. Curse of Doom:

Drain Life:
Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 621 + (1,15 x 900) = 1656

Immolate (with Conflagrate in mind):
Improved Immolate and Emberstorm:
a. DD: 441,4 + (0,337 x 900) = 744,7
b. DoT : [676,5 + (0,627 x 900)] x 0,8 = 992,6

Total: DD + DoT = 1737
Critical with Ruin: (DD x 2) + DoT = 2482

Conflagrate:
Emberstorm: 715 + (0,47 x 900) = 1138
Critical with Ruin = [715 + (0,47 x 900)] x 2 = 2276

Shadow Bolt:
Shadow and Flame and Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus): 657,8 + (1,215 x 900) = 1751
Critical with Ruin: [657,8 + (1,215 x 900)] x 2 = 3502

4 x Curse of… (4 x 260 = 1040 mana)
30 x Corruption (30 x 370 = 11100 mana)
35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
35 x Conflagrate (35 x 305 = 10675 mana)
145 x Shadow Bolt (145 x 420 = 60900 mana)
Total casting Time: 533,5 seconds

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for all spells is 8%
Spell Crit Chance for Immolate, Conflagrate and Shadow Bolt is 18%.

Corruption:/b]

27,3 out of 30 will land. Damage = 27,3 x 1998 = 54545

Immolate (with Conflagrate in mind):

31,85 out of 35 will land. 5,733 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 26,117 x 1737 = 45365
Critical Damage = 5,733 x 2482 = 14229
Total = 59594

Conflagrate:

31,85 out of 35 will land. 5,733 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 26,117 x 1138 = 29721,1
Critical Damage = 5,733 x 2276 = 13048,3
Total = 42769

Shadow Bolt:

131,95 out of 145 will land. 23,75 will be criticals:
Base Damage = 108,2 x 1751 = 189458,2
Critical damage = 23,75 x 3502 = 83172,5
Total: 272631

Total Damage: 429539

2. Curse of Agony
A reasonable spell sequence for this build would be:

Curse of Agony – Immolate - Corruption – Shadow Bolt – Conflagrate just before Immolate’s DoT component expires - (renew Corruption and Immolate when they fade out allowing for a full duration of the respective spell, keep Shadow Bolt spamming, always keep in mind to cast Conflagrate on time, Life Tap, pot or bandage or whatever else when needed).

35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
35 x Conflagrate (35 x 305 = 10675 mana)
135 x Shadow Bolt (135 x 420 = 56700 mana)
Total casting Time: 540 seconds

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for all spells is 8%
Spell Crit Chance for Immolate, Conflagrate and Shadow Bolt is 18%.

Curse of Agony:

22,75 out of 25 Curses of Agony will land. Damage = 22,75 x 3050 = 69387

Conflagrate:

31,85 out of 35 will land. 5,733 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 26,117 x 1138 = 29721,1
Critical Damage = 5,733 x 2276 = 13048,3
Total = 42769

Shadow Bolt:

122,85 out of 135 will land. 22,113 will be criticals:
Base Damage = 100,737 x 1751 = 176390,5
Critical damage = 22,113 x 3502 = 77439,7
Total: 253830

Total Damage: 480125

3. Curse of Doom
A reasonable spell sequence for this build would be:

Curse of Doom – Immolate - Corruption – Shadow Bolt – Conflagrate just before Immolate’s DoT component expires - (renew Corruption and Immolate when they fade out allowing for a full duration of the respective spell, keep Shadow Bolt spamming, always keep in mind to cast Conflagrate on time, Life Tap, pot or bandage or whatever else when needed).

35 x Immolate (35 x 445 = 15575 mana)
35 x Conflagrate (35 x 305 = 10675 mana)
145 x Shadow Bolt (145 x 420 = 60900 mana)
Total casting Time: 542,5 seconds

Now let’s try to incorporate the 3 combat stats (actually the other 2 as Spell Power is already taken into account at c.).
Spell Hit Chance for all spells is 8%
Spell Crit Chance for Immolate, Conflagrate and Shadow Bolt is 18%.

10 Curses of Doom will land. Damage = 10 x 6900 = 69000

Total = 59594

Conflagrate:

31,85 out of 35 will land. 5,733 will be criticals.
Base Damage = 26,117 x 1138 = 29721,1
Critical Damage = 5,733 x 2276 = 13048,3
Total = 42769

Shadow Bolt:

Shadow Bolt:

131,95 out of 145 will land. 23,75 will be criticals:
Base Damage = 108,2 x 1751 = 189458,2
Critical damage = 23,75 x 3502 = 83172,5
Total: 272631

Total Damage: 498539

Conclusions for Demonic Sacrifice and Shadow and Flame build:

We notice that the difference between 2 and 3 is 18414 damage or a 3,83 % increase in 2’s total damage. A further notice in this build is that Curse of Agony’s damage, even when hindered by spell hit chance, is actually more than that of Curse of Doom…

Spell sequence note

For those of you who may think of dropping out Corruption casting throughout an encounter vs a single enemy, because the casting time of corruption spell is 2 seconds with this build:
In order to see whether it’s more effective to replace the casting of Corruption with more “room” in our spell sequence to cast more Shadow Bolts we should consider when a single cast of Shadow Bolt will offer us more damage than a single cast of Corruption. To make things simpler with casting times, when 4 Shadow Bolt casts (10 seconds total casting time) will equal or supersede 5 Corruption casts (10 seconds total casting time). Granted that the same hit chance applies to both spells since there are no talents in this build which may affect the spell hit chance, the above problem may be expressed in this equation:

5 x Corruption Damage = 4 x Shadow Bolt Damage. (1)

Let’s try to analyze this equation a bit further:

Corruption Damage (CD)= 1035 + (1,07 x SP) (2)

Shadow Bolt Damage (SBD) = [Base Damage x (1 – SCC)] + [(Critical with Ruin Damage) x SCC] (3)

where SCC = Spell Critical Chance.

Base Damage = 657,8 + (1,215 x SP) (4)
Critical with Ruin Damage = [657,8 + (1,215 x SP)] x 2 (5)

By applying (4) and (5) in (3) we have:

SBD = {[657,8 + (1,215 x SP)] x (1 – SCC)} + {[657,8 + (1,215 x SP) x 2] x SCC} =

= [657,8 + (1,215 x SP)] x (1 + SCC) (6)

Now, let’s combine (2) and (6) in (1):

5 x [1035 + (1,07 x SP)] = 4 x {[657,8 + (1,215 x SP)] x (1 + SCC)} (7) 

[(4,86 x SP) x (1 + SCC)] – (5,35 x SP) = 5175 – [2631,2 x (1 + SCC)] 

[(4,86 x SP) x SCC) – (0,49 x SP) = 2543,8 – (2631,2 x SCC) ( 8 )

After a differentiation of (7) in regard to SP, we will notice that SBD will be more than CD for any values of SP AND SCC that make ( 8 ) positive.

I will not attempt to solve this system. However I will provide an example:

In order for a Warlock, of fully buffed 500 Intellect specced in this build, to forsake the casting of Corruption in favor of more Shadow Bolt casts, he/she must have equal or more than 531 Spell Critical Rating AND equal or more than 1813 Shadow damage.
I think the numbers speak for themselves…
