I agree with Karrok.
In the past it happened way less often. Most of the testing was already done by QA, and when it was nearly finished it is put on the PTR to get the judgments of the players.
Now it is put on the PTRs way earlier. In the beginning there are many bugs and the patch is almost not worth playing live, but it is playable anyway in a certain way. They want to get more opinions about the players and after that, they will change accordingly. I find this way more democratic.
When the PTR is almost bugfree the PTR ends and the final patch will go live.
On the WotLK Closed Beta the same happened. There were even moments that the WotLK Closed Beta and PTR 3.0.2 were technically identic. I could use the Closed Beta client to play on the PTR, in order to spare hard disk space.
I guess that this kind of mini-patching will also happen on the future PTRs and on Cataclysm Closed Beta.

just look at the build number ontop of the minipatching window at the left. when it reaches 10772(currently the latest build) you will be able to play on the PTR.
I did it yesterday as I had to reinstall the PTR from scratch. Trust me, this mini patching is alot better than having to log into the game and download a new update and then restart the game to apply the patch every time.
It does take a while, but in my experience there is less risk of you getting corrupted wow test files which I always seem to get and have to reinstall again and again after a new patch.
I also wish they would update the repair utility as soon as a new build is released to the wild, it is highly annoying getting a message saying that it is the wrong version.
A proper check utility like SWG use to have would be great, where you can delete a single file thats causing problems and then the repair/patch checker will download that only file. If wow currently does do this, then it is not clear how it does this and it doesnt work for me.
Moonkin DPS = Roll a dice
If you roll 1,2,3,4 or 5, you dont do good DPS.
If you roll a 6, you have a 60% chance of doing good DPS.

I would like that too. If a file is (heavily) corrupted or is mssing, the repair utility should try to repair it. If that fails the repair utility should go to the internet and download the new file. Then the new file is there, and it continues at the next file. This should be on the live realms, on the PTRs and on any future Closed Beta. PTRs are actually also Betas, only I would call them Half-Open, because you must have an account for a fair time to get in. Others (newbie players and people not ever having played WoW) will be excluded.
I want to discuss this under Suggestions forum, because it is an idea not only for this PTR, but for any planned PTRs, Closed Betas and the like.
