Coming in patch 3.3.0, the esteemed tuskarr of the Kalu'ak are proud to introduce to Northrend the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby, a test of fishing skill with a healthy dash of luck! Every Wednesday beginning at 8 PM players can try to catch the elusive Blacktip Shark. Elder Clearwater sits in Dalaran for one hour awaiting the return of the quickest, most experienced fisher to bring him the first catch of the night. This champion fisher will be rewarded in-kind for his or her fishing expertise. Those who aren’t able to return with the first catch will still receive just reward for getting the Blacktip Shark to Elder Clearwater before he takes his leave.
It is said that these sharks’ favorite meal are the bite-sized Pygmy Suckerfish. Perhaps a hook in their waters will do the trick. Because of the increased concentration of fish, you have an increased chance to catch a shark from fishing pools. Don't forget, in patch 3.3.0 you never catch trash from fishing pools, regardless of skill.
The derby winner will receive a substantial chunk of experience (or money at maximum level) and gain 5000 reputation with the Kalu'ak. In addition, the champion will be given a choice between two unique rewards:
Dread Pirate Ring Binds on Account
Unique-Equipped
Finger +34 Stamina
Requires level 1 to 80 (80) Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 53.
Equip: Improves hit rating by 29.
Equip: Experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests increased by 5%.
Boots of the Bay Binds When Picked Up
Feet
Requires Fishing (200) Equip: Increased Fishing +15.
Use: Whisks you away to the finest drinking establishment in Booty Bay. (1 Day Cooldown)
To keep it interesting, the Achievement "Master Angler of Stranglethorn" has been changed to "Master Angler of Azeroth." This can be earned by winning either the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby or the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza.
Please bear in mind this feature will be undergoing testing on our Public Test Realms and is subject to change prior to the release of patch 3.3.0.

Changes I'd like include moving it to a day when people who raid will definetely not have time, and changing 1 of the rewards to be a random special fish like in stv so I don't have to win the contest twice.

The Nelf speaketh the truth! I'm not personally affected, but I have seen quite a number of posters, who works on sundays, lament that they have no chance of ever getting the Salty title.
Personally, I'm just annoyed at the change to fishing pools. Really, Blizzard? What point is there even to level fishing now, since 95% of what people want (mats for high-end cooking or the turtle) is found in the pools?

please please change the day and time of this even there are a lot of ppl that raid and then again there are a lot of ppl that dont blizzard have made huge changes to the game so that casual players can XP the raiding side of this game and have easyer acces to the raid instances if so it would b very unfair for blizz now to set a new fishing tournament on a reset day and then on top of this olso put it on a time stamp where like most ppl are tied up in a raid please reconsider and change the day and time to something more suitable for every one to enjoy .

You just don't get it do you? This event is made so that you need to make a choice between raiding and getting a ring for your alts/port to booty bay.
I would like to see blizzard stand up to the incoming whine fest and not change this until this hits the live realms.

im sorry but it is said no where that this event is specially made for making the choice between raiding and a fishing competition i would rather want a answer from a blueposter than a wild idea from some random person lot of changes have been made for casual players so they can raid aswel and see the new contenct that blizzard have so awesomely designed
well i will b speaking on the raiders behalf *beeing a raider my self*
that even tho i have raids that start at 7:00 and end at 12:00ish i would still like to do the new fishing contest outside of raids aswel so it is not fair against the ppl that like to do a little exstra and then can not
i would say most ppl that do not raid have tons of time to actually lvl alts as in full time raiders would have less time so a raider wanting maby a 5% boost to XP or some fishing boots to increase the fishing skill on a alt would b more valuable
so all in all blizzard as been saying for some time now that they want every one to see new content and XP the new events they put in game wel putting this even on a wednesday on 8 PM is not realy a fun idea agains like 50 % of most servers

Yeah only since your achievements show you don't raid so it means less competition for you having the event at this time, selfish attitude tbh.
I know!... Let's make it 12 Noon every Wednesday, then you have to make a choice between this event and having a job! That's just as fair, right?
