kinda was wondering why everyone rolls for the damn shards at the end
i mean the enchanter should get the shards shouldnt he
its like profiting from someone elses proffesion that he or she has spent time and money on to lvl
You dont roll on mines or herbs if your not miner or herbalist either dont you

This is an old argument. If the enchanter wants to keep the shards, then he needs to roll on the items like everyone else.
Personally, if you were in my group I'd simply kick you.

I think the person giving the Epic to the enchanter should get the shard.
At least on my server, the enchanter isn't needing on epics, everyone is greeding.

In my experience we only 'all roll for shards' if we have opted to give unneeded items to the enchanter in the first place. :)
If I were to make a group and the enchanter wanted to keep all the shards, I would permit all unneeded items to be greed/need rolled by all.

nope wrong,
If your an enchanter and get all the loot to disenchant then everyone should roll on the shard otherwise everyone should greed on every drop and what ever the encahnter gets they can keep simples

The items being reduced to shards could other wise be sold to a vendor (admittedly, for a pittance) to cover armour repairs, by anyone. Allowing only (dis-)Enchanters to have D/E items would result in a shift on who roles Need in order to come away with at least pocket money in an otherwise profitless run.

If there weren't any miners or herbalists in the party, the herb/vein would go to waste. If there wasn't an enchanter in the group, the items in question would be greeded on and sold to the vendor. If the enchanter wants it he either has a debt of the item value to the player who would've won it, or has to fairly distribute the loot from disenchanting.

whenever I group with my guild we normally ask if you want to roll for herbs ore vains its just polite to rather then steam in a mine it while the group is attacking a mob,
Might not get that in some pug's though...its always best to ask looting and gathering rules before running an istance with a group

Q u o t e: what bout herbs and stuff then we can all use those 2 don't we
to the dwarf : If you in my group i step on you
luckely no ugly dwarfs can join my group ^^
How I see it is that a Herbalist is the only person that can loot the herbs.
I understand a (dis)Enchanter is the only person who can take shards from an unwanted item, so if they wish to keep all shards, then they must roll on the unwanted item like everyone else. Other people can loot the unwanted items, and vendor/use them as they wish.
This is how it works on the realm I play on, or at least in the groups I run. :) It seems the fairest way I could think of when forming groups and sorting out a loot rule. I am always open to suggestions also!

Options for herbs:
1) Let the herbalist take it (some win)
2) Leave it there because the herbalist doesn't want to share (no win)
Options for blues/epics (and greens if you're that dedicated):
1) Let whoever wins the greed roll vendor it (some win)
2) Disenchant everything and roll for mats (more win)
Multi-target Living Bomb and T8 tunic are the best things to ever happen to the mage class.

If you arent herbalist you CAN'T pick the herb.If ther isnt a mining or herbalism in group the herb or mine wil be left in the dungeon. You will take the same mines with and without a minner:zero.
If i arent an enchanter i CAN pick the blue item.If ther isnt an enchanter in the grupo the loot wont be left in the body,it will be sell to the vendor.
Also there is no more than 2 or 3 mines in a dungeon and not in all dungeons. There are littel mines compared to blues items ( 3 or more blues per dungeon plus 1 epic)
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.

to make it simple to understand
in theory you have first right on the shards...however you get the shards from the loot and everyone have equal rights on the loot
so either you roll on all loot and risk getting nothing to DE at all
or you roll for the shards since you skiped rolling for the loot

I agree with badly smelling blue creature.
Id never group with you if youd want to get all shards just for yourself (there is always plenty people who can take your spot - your not a must in the group).
Having enchanter in group is cool otherwise you vendor the items for 3-11g and thats it, with enchanter you get free mats for your enchants or make 20g.
Usually (I guess this is common everywhere) there are enough shards for everyone to get one and highest roller just gets an extra shard being it Abyss (or if 4Dreams + 1 Abyss gets the Epic shard).
If you dont want to share just greed on them like everyone else and then diss IF you manage to win anything.
Take your and your teams ideas with you and go boil yourself GC.
