yay or nay?

yay for me I think, it seems like a really good way to finally get back to doing some dungeons plus you can meet up with random people and not have to link 100 different achievements just to do the daily heroic, plus the fact that nowadays on my server the daily heroic is the only one that is done so it's hard to gear up my new characters.

It should bring back the fun for dungeons across all levels

Yay indeed!

This is the single most excellent feature I've heard about since patch 1.9. I play a pure dps character and generally play odd hours, so finding 1 group a day is a challenge, let alone badge farming or just doing some dungeons for fun.

The ability to -at any time - click the 'Dungeon Run Please' button and get teleported in with a pre-made group taken from multiple servers is going to increase my interest in WoW a thousandfold.

I know people on the forums are saying it's the end of pugging etc, but then some people will whine about anything! This is taking all the tools we have for social play and magnifying their usefulness a thousandfold. I've been hoping for something like this since BC.

Well done Blizz, ta very much!

(Shameless fanboi'ism I know, but I really am looking forward to this that much!).

Nay, I should say.

I am an undergeared, soloing pve arms-specced warrior (so not to hot on tanking and dps). Ussualy I inform a group of this beforehand and they know what they can expect of me (almost next to nothing, bit tanking, bit dps). The new system will see me joining pug's, assigning me to group-roles I simply can not preform in. In other words, I'll be almost instantly voted out of the group, irritating the remaining players. So no, I prefer the current LFG-/PUG-system.

Yet again Blizzard seems to think that adding this sort of functionality will magically make more players play tanks and healers.

There will still be more dps than tanks/healers - despite each group needing 1 tank, 1 healer, and 3 dps.

And then there is the quality of the pugs...

Back when they did cross-realm BGs the only thing it really did was to let low-faction-pop servers team up with low-faction-pop servers of the opposite balance. The problem was something like a 10:1 alliance/horde ratio on one server and a 1:10 on another. Putting those two together you get a 1:1 ratio - good idea.

There is no such thing as a 3:1 tank:dps ratio server, so what makes Blizzard think that merging servers will make it easier to get pugs going.

When playing my shaman (mainspec resto) I will definitely think twice before joining as healer. Because healing Mr.Dinged805minutesagoandtankingheroicswithgreenquestgear is not going to be fun.

So unless Blizzard implement some sort of gear filter to the matching, people would only use it to fill up that 4-5th slot that they do not care who is in anyway (and honestly, how many groups form each day just missing 1 random dps for a farm-run?)

And if they do add a gear/skill check, the whole target audience of this feature gets locked out. Because many of those who would need this LFG feature are the ones that do not have good enough gear or just suck so much that they cannot talk their way into a pug in the current situation.

There are two normal instances that will get you great gear once 3.3 comes they will be the Icecrown 5 man and ToC 5 man and you can use a group to spam that as much as you wish.

And its a Yay for me.

It simply makes the game more fun for me as i wont be spending so much time looking as i wanted to originally which would be playing in a instance but there will be the vibe of oh god no not this HC but you get that with everything random :D

Reading some of the above replies it amazes me how many of the people saying nay haven't bothered looking at what's proposed.

Firstly, you'll select your role when signing up, so there is no need to worry about being forced to tank / heal. In fact, if you are signed up as dps then the player who actually signed up to tank would probably be a bit irritated if you tried!

Secondly, they have a fairly complex gear matching system developed for this, so it won't be fresh 80's as tanks and healers with a bunch of ToC geared dps causing mayhem.

Please go and read the FAQ on it before knee-jerkingly deciding that it's a bad thing : if you do this and still hate the idea then at least you'll have a cognizant argument as to why.

Errr, with this outlook, why would anyone want you in a group anyway!? What your doing is akin to saying 'I can't fulfil any role but I'm looking for a group to carry me through for gear'.

I would have thought with this attitude the ability to get into groups more often would have been a big plus for you!

Big Nay,

Wow is a social game with a community your community is yoru server, this is further encouraging the alck of community that wow now has happening, encouraging a less pleasant enviroment. with the lack of ability to form friendships with in the game to play with in the future.

Wow is a multiplayer game, which used to be based around people grouping with like people to play, the furthest point of this is guilds, this encourages the opposite and it think it will reduce the community aspects of wow.

What they need to do is merge a few low pop servers into one, and hey presto excess of hardwar for the future and low pop servers issues at not getting groups solved.

Evoni brings up an interesting point, at least when searching for raids. Some sort of lockout system should be added to prevent a "greenie" from signing up of ICC. Nothing as serious as most puggers these days seems to want, but some sort of check nontheless.

Still for the idea, naturally ^^

Thank you for your additional information. I'll see if I can find more information.

Uhmmm, I do feel a little put down here and I do feel the need to defend myself a little. You see, I'm one of those casual players you hear so much about, I can only put in 2 or 3 hours a day into the game, so I can not keep up and, a few years ago, decided that I did not want the stress of trying to.

Furthermore (even though this might be hard to grasp for most WoW players since it goes against every grain of their gaming soul) I do not realy care about gear, gear and better gear.

When I join a group to do an instance I'm not concerned about getting gear, I usually pass up on gear because I like the gear I now have. What I want is to see the content of the instance, experience it at least once.

Now if I join a group they see that I am a warrior, use a one-hander and a shield and immediately assume that I can tank for them. When they find out I'm 'undergeared' and as a tank am a real drain on their healer, mana-wise, and hardly can keep aggro when their fully geared retribution paladin starts blazing away, they, justly, get irritated, frustrated and tend to heap abuse on me. I feel it is better to inform them beforehand so they do not get their assumptions up to high. In a group I'll try to do my best but my best is usually not good enough, so I function best in a secondary role.

Now what I'm afraid of with this new dungeon system is that, if I use it, the system will add me to agroup that needs a 'warrior' (read : tank). That would be unfair to the other players. Now if I have the ability to choose what role I can take and give a description beforehand that would make the system better for me. I hope it'll work that way. However, from what I have read up till now about it I'm not put at ease and still have my doubts.

Yay indeed. There's nothing I like better than to dungeon crawl on my alts, as Tanking Healing and DPS'ing in dungeons prepares you for your raid role once you reach level cap.

It is in fact one of the most major and positive changes to the levelling game they've made in a long while and by the time the new races arrive they'll have polished any bugs in it to make Cataclysm levelling even more fun!

And the level cap features sound awesome for my alts. Keep grinding the random dungeon feature for super fast badge earning to get fully PVE equipped in 2 days including epic gems, and another day for 5/5 PVP gear if you get a great premade group to run with!

It's what dungeon fans have needed for like....forever.

I must reply to this. 2-3 hours per day is a lot. TotC takes 15-30 minutes and gives same gear as you get in Naxxramas or normal heroics. TotC heroic gives same gear as Ulduar.

Going ungeared in a heroic IS asking for a boost, except you are not asking guildies but strangers. I don't mind boosting guildies and friends, and I regularly take lvl 76-8 guildies to totc normal to get them some gear for lvl 80, but for a stranger? Err... no thanks.

You don't need good gear to go to a heroic really, just don't go with a mix of tank, pvp and dps gear, it just shows you don't care. If you don't care, why should anyone else? Pretty much same as irl: if you stand in the field and don't bother running after the ball, what's the point of playing with you at all?

Anyway, I like this change. Not about pugs cause there are usually enough people from guild that want to come, but I don't have to go 'oh damn, not OK again', just press button and pray :). it will be nice for leveling alts though, currently finding people for old instances (including BC ones) is annoying.

Also, it seems that they will put in a gear matching similar to Arena rating matching: groups will be made of people with similar gear scores if possible.

"Bound to account"...means you cannot give it to a character not on your account. It means absolutely nothing more than that.

This is it you see, the end of this expansion is coming and now blizz want everyone to get the most out of it, those so called hardcore raiding guilds probably do it for the challenge and the gear is a bonus.

And for the person crying about it making friends and being social, this way you will meet even more people with the xserver dungeons, for once i'm actually looking forward to something in this expansion.

Definate yay for me.

Makes for convenience of getting a pug going a lot easier for the low level instances while you're leveling an alt :)
