I know this thread won’t get me anywhere but I'm just so annoyed at the battle.net conversion crap that I really needed to go and whine about it somewhere.

The reason I hadn't signed up to battle.net up to this point, isn't because it had slipped my mind or I wasn't aware of it or what it could be used for, it was simply that I actually didn't want to sign up to battle.net. I liked having a short sign in name, instead of having to type my entire email address every time I logged in. And no I live in a household where saving it isn't an option. I'm aware that typing a few extra characters and trying to get used to changing a 4 year habit isn't exactly a big thing but it's frustrating that we should have to just because Blizzard decides that we want to sign up to them as a company and not just games that we want to play. Screw that.

On top of this, the website we have to sign up with isn't even finished or working. Yesterday it had a failed maintenance message and today I couldn't get the terms and conditions page to work with Firefox or Internet Explorer, without using the Compatability View option.

It didn't require any effort or cost on your part to leave it as it was, this is just an infuriating attempt at brand loyalty by getting us to register with blizzard instead of just with WoW. I have merged my account with that rubbish (...now I have an account in an account instead of an account...) but it's just...well it's made typing this without profanity difficult. And no, a penguin doesn't make it ok.

You can always cancel your account, I bet if enough people cancel (say 60% of subs) blizz will rethink the Bnet move

While true, I don't think you'll have much success getting that many people to actually do so.

There's also an interesting "flaw" in the design of this bloody circus :

I'm playing WoW with my two sons, so bought three(3) boxes and use three(3) separate accounts.

In the past (the classic way), I registered those three separate accounts using ONE email address (the one we use for our family - sounds logical, doesn't it).

Interesting fact now is, that I need to create three(!!) Battle.net accounts and the design is such that I now ALSO NEED THREE(!!) email accounts ..

If you put everything under ONE email address, you can play only ONE client at a time ..

Thank you Blizzard :(

PS
I would love to see a "blue" commenting on this ..

Let's face it - the sort of people who would cancel their accounts over this would probably make the online environment that bit nicer once they did so. ;)

As far as I've heard you can actually still play all three accounts at once, even if all three are under the same battle.net account.

Because I enjoy playing World of Warcraft and I'm not yet planning on quitting in the immediate future and it's a "choice" of signing up and agreeing to it or not being able to log in.

I disagree with the purpose and implementation of this change, not the other terms and conditions Blizzard operate with.

You clicked "Agree" back when you installed Wotlk.

You can always quit if you don't want to merge your account. No one is forcing you to play.

Not true, you can have all 3 accounts running at the same time, even if they are all under one battle.net account.

That would be nice, but I have to log on with an email address and I have only one ..
What happens next then ? A menu where I have the option to choose from the three accounts ?

I would love to see a (yet another, but oh well) password after that then, because I wouldn't want my kids to use my personal account ..

I haven't read any specifications on this, so as far as I can tell, this design is a bad one.

Thanks for your input, by the way :)

PS
Still, I would love to see a "blue" commenting on this (thanks in advance) :-)

True, but this is a change sometime during an already existing agreement and yes that gives you the right to quit without any notice, but still .. people want to play the game simply because it's good .. but the Battlenet stuff is a bit over the top, imho.

You do indeed get a menu, I'm not sure if you have a separate password for each account after that unfortunately. I can't really test it myself as I only have a single account.

No you don't have a separate password for each account, which does raise a good point.

Should be a feature you can opt to use.

From the battle.net FAQ

Q: My family plays World of Warcraft together. Should we create a single Battle.net account for all of our World of Warcraft accounts?
A: No. Sharing access to a World of Warcraft account, other than by a parent or guardian with a single minor, is a violation of World of Warcraft’s Terms of Use. You should create a separate Battle.net account for each family member’s World of Warcraft account. In addition, future Battle.net features will make it beneficial for players to have the Battle.net account they use associated with their own online identity. Creating separate accounts for you and your family ensures you will be able to take advantage of these features when they are introduced later on.

Q: How do I log in to the game after I’ve merged a World of Warcraft account to a Battle.net Account?
A: After you complete the account merge process, you will use the Battle.net Account information (i.e. the email address and password you designated) to log in to World of Warcraft. The old World of Warcraft account name will no longer be used to log in to the game, the World of Warcraft forums, or the Armory.
