We have added a new experimental feature to the D3D graphics engine to improve texture management (particularly on Windows XP). This is currently enabled by default on the PTR and can be reverted to the original behavior by adding the following line to your Config.WTF file:

Also, the configuration variable ‘textureCacheSize’ is no longer used with the new backend. To set the cache size for the new backend, adjust the ‘gxTextureCacheSize’ variable. For example, to allow 128MB of GPU memory to be used for textures, add the following line to your Config.WTF file:

If ‘gxTextureCacheSize’ is set to 0, the client will try to pick a reasonable default value for your settings.

This will increase the graphic of player textures and other things then?

The highest you can use depends on your video cards RAM.

For example, my Geforce 9600 GT only has 512mb ram, that's the maximum I COULD use, but it'd probably be recommended to use half of your RAM for good performance, such as 256mb for me.

Which of these sounds more like something Blizzard would do?:

Changing the game with money from their own pockets to give it's current player base a much smoother and enjoyable expierience by increasing their FPS...

or

Making the game look more appealing from afar to players who havent played it yet, even though it would melt its current players FPS and make the game less enjoyable for them....

I got Huge problems with my ATI Card, a Radeon HD4890 after this change was made, Im getting EVERYTHING in a Green, slimy texture and built with big squares.
and now when i try to start WoW up again im getting "World of Warcraft was unable to Start up 3D acceleration Please make sure Directx9.0 is installed and your Video drivers are up to date."

i've tried the newest Drivers, the Oldest drivers and everything i could get from ATI. nothing works.
I've got the same problems in retail when im in dalaran, though it show differently, getting Black and invisible Textures etc.

Blizzard Shape up! you need to improve your Support for ATI Cards! it's a the most common fabricate of Graphics cards in "ready buildt" computers and a good economic choice....
With my 4890 im just getting like 6 Frames Lower then Nvidia 285 in Wow, i get 2 Fps higher in CoD.
Since WotLK Came out i've been having major problems with my cards, and i belive it rests in the new Shadow feature.

What part of test realm didn't you understand? This is the exact reason why the test realms are used. Instead of crying why don't you report it as a bug and post your system specification, so they can fix the issue?

Why does this affect XP and not Vista/Seven? The game runs on Dx9 even on Vsta/Seven.

Because they already know they have a poor Support of ATI cards, and they've admitted it already. so posting it as a bug is kinda useless

any plans on fixing the 3d vision buggs?

Where it tries to make text, windows(eg. talents, ach...) and buffs 3d. Which makes it completely unreadable.

most of the buggs can be changed by going into video->Stereo and there change the screen depth to minimum and then swap it back. This however doesn't seam to fix the cd effect on icons nor does it fix the map.

It's getting a little old going into video->Stereo everytime i get alt tab or i open a new window(is there a /script to make this change?).

Couldn't this quite easily be fixed by not having the 3d generator try to work with anything that is removed with alt+z?

PTR with highest graphic settings runs faster for me than live with minimal graphic setings! Good job!

I've noticed a huge difference in Dalaran. Not had a chance to test in raids yet. I currently use an ATI mobility gfx card.

Loading characters and icons is much smoother now.

Just used SET gxTextureCacheSize "500", messing around with numbers, with 500 i have jumped from around.. 10fps to 30 :D

Gonna do some more experimenting...

But yeah works great as far as i can tell :D

(That's 30 FPS on ultra settings)

How should the texture cache be handled on a 4870x2?

Even though it has 2GB RAM and 2 GPUs, the card only shows as a single entity to the OS......each GPU has 1GB RAM assigned to it.....

Anyone have any experience of setting it with this card? (4850x2 may also be the same)

Also, if we allow the game to automatically set it, is there a way to see what size it has chosen?

Ie, is it best to just go for 100% mem, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50% ?

whats the amount that the game defaults to if its not filled in? many questions, would be cool to maybe just do a full info pass on all CVars with some hints, tips and all that?

I play on Macbook OS, and i used to play WoW with low settings just perfect. In the PTR i experience alot of FPS drop when i look "into the distance" i got all settings on low. but i still seem to have this problem, which i do not have on life atm.
