0. My Tiny Crimson Whelpling story 31/08/2009 22:41:35 PDT

For the past 2 days i'm working on the World Explorer, and today i got to Wetlands.

So here i am heading to Grim Batol and on my way i see a Red Whelp. I remember that those drop a pet and think to myself "Yeah right" and attack it.
And there it was [Tiny Crimson Whelpling]. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I checked WoWhead and it says it has a 0.3% drop chance so i should consider myself very lucky. As my char was dismounting i kept thinking "Imagine if it drops" and "Why the hell am i wasting time". It turns out it wasn't a time waste after all.

I just wanted to share this with you guys.

Real tanks wear leather.

In before the 28288452775 haters who've farmed that pet for years without seeing a drop. ^^

PS My husband (aka, the lucky bugger) watched me farm the emerald whelpling for weeks (quite literally weeks)... wandered by when I was off making sandwiches, saw a dreaming whelp and killed it, looted the pet and DARED to say to me when I came back 'Look sweety, I killed one and it dropped, they must've upped the drop rates' ><

I got the Hyacinth Macaw whilst leveling in STV :) Sold it for 400g which was loads at the time.

Got one my hunter while leveling. Sold it for 200g back in vanilla this was an insane ammount of cash.

I once bought a Hyacinth Macaw off the auction house for just a handful of silver... it was priced the same as the Green Wing Macaws! I couldn't believe it... but this was back when not so many folks even knew the significance of it.

I've farmed for a Crimson Whelpling on and off for the last five years. Never had it drop. Found an Emerald one once (gave it to my wife for a present), but never that damned Crimson.

I killed 6 crimson whelps and got mine, i've killed maybe a hundred of the black and never had any luck, RNG is a funny thing.

Farmed it at Vanilla wow time. I got it in a reasonable short time, let's say 20min of genociding small whelps. No luck at all for the green one, i got pissed after a couple of hours which is usually the maximum grinding i can withstand.

Lucky you! :-)

I acquired all four whelpings myself recently. I believe I had about 800 kills for the black one, 2500 for the green one, 700 for the blue one, and 1200 for the red one. Made a few thousand gold too, skinning all but the red ones and selling the leather and hide on the auction house.

I'm still going for them, albeit after losing the farming contest to the undead blue dude above.

Green was 1,000+.
Black was much less than 100.
Blue was around 100.
Red continues to evade my backpack.

I decided to try at least once on the baron mount and on that run I got his sword instead and I only did him 30 times since WotLK

I had the same with the green version on my Tauren. Farmed for it for quite some hours on my old Alliance character and never got it, then years later I'm semi guild-chatting and walking around through Swamp of Sorrows on my way to Outland and killed one for the heck and there was the pet.

I usually have to farm quite a bit to get pets dropped and I relatively never get rare and let alone epic BoE world drops, but once in a while I'm really lucky with these things, only when I never expect it. I also got the green proto drake in my first Oracle egg, but only had yolk after.:p

Got the Emrald Whelpling after 10 kills sold it fore 3.5k gold lol..

I got my crimson on a lvl 23 Orc when I was running through the Wetlands and suddenly aggro'd. I tried running away, but I'd only get into more mobs, so I killed the whelp and it dropped.

I sold it for 1200 Gold, because I told a random guy I met that you could only get it at BlizzCon. Dumb people are cool.
