Phasing is the new invention of Wrath, but with the overhaul Cataclysm will bring to Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms, we will probably start seeing phasing in the old zones too.
Phasing changes things only for your character. Characters that didn't do the quest to make the "phase" happen see the area as it was before the phase.

I would love to see phasing for that bridge in Redridge. After all the bolts and work you do to get it repaired, it would be great to actually see it restored to it's former glory through phasing.

And the flightpath in Un'Goro camp could be added with phasing. The whole "we're lost here out in the wilderness, but we got this handy flightpath" doesn't make much sense. Make the first quest you get there something in the line of "thank the Light you found us, now go tell them in Tanaris so they can make a flightpath to here" (add some fun by having to "train" the gryphons to find the place by flying one over to the camp).

Also, it could add npc's you're charged to find only when you have accepted the quest . It feels kind of silly to do a "find this person" quest, when you have seen him multiple times already.

Any other suggestions for the use of phasing in known areas?

Im sure Blizzard have tons of ideas to use phasing in the EK/Kalimdor. Phasing is the best part of WOTLK, and I hope to see it used a lot more in Cataclysm.

Hey look at that beautiful forest!

What? I only see a crater and a sea of fire...

I hate phasing so much.

Whining helps.

Idiot. For the last time, that will NOT happen. When Cataclysm happens, it happens for everyone. If you make a level 1, you'll see craters and seas of fire. If you log on your lvl 80, you'll se craters and seas of fire. Get it?

It's the only way in a game like this to make everyone playing experience something world-changing happening in front of their eyes. It's a great technology really.

Also the cataclysm will happen to everyone, so I doubt something like your example would happen.

I think they should put me on a different phase from everyone else. So I can run round killing my own mobs and not worry about other players stealing my kills.

Also I could turn on my PvP flag and pretend that I am really hardcore cause none of the Hordies could see me to kill me.

But best of all I would be able to say to those asking for a boost through an instance, nope sorry, I can't see you.

Phasing technology brings so many fun and fascinating possibilities that I think the main issue will be deciding on when to stop using it. ;-) It should be really interesting to see in what ways phasing is used, and I for one am looking forward to hearing more.

Also an interesting subject.
In theory, you could phase in every result of every quest. You kill a named npc? He stays dead. You've done an escort quest? The npc doesn't reappear in it's prison.
But this stops you from helping a friend/guildie who wants to do the quest as well.

I think you should stop using phasing when it would interfere with your ability to help others.

One problem that you encounter with phasing, and which is my only beef with it, is that it makes getting groups for certain quests very hard. Like some quests in IC, where guildies can't help each other if they aren't on the same part or have completed it.

Other than that, let the phasing commence!

These Hard-Modes are tougher than I thought! I'l have to Forum Whine!

So what happens to people who've only bought Vanilla WoW? I'm not in Northrend yet, so I've no experience with phasing, sorry if it's a silly question.

As said 100 times before, Cataclysm will happen for everyone, so no matter if you are level 5 or level 85, you will still see destroyed Azeroth.
(and no matter what expansion you have installed)

Alot of these quests are not going to be in the game anymore, entire zones will change. We already know that for example Southshore is going to be conquered by the horde and auberdine will be destroyed. The idea of repairing the bridge in Redrigde is a good point, but there might be a possibility that there isn't even a bridge at all once Deathwing did his thing.

yeah, lets all pay for and subscribe to the worlds biggest MMO and phase to our own little world.....

makes you wonder what the point of an MMO would be if everyone was phased to there own bit.

Actually I found it to be a pain in the rear. So many group quests in icecrown that you cant help your friends out with because you cant even see them *sigh*.
