A letter to Blizzard

I know I'm just one man in a sea of millions, and I may not be able to express myself fully, but I felt this need to share my love of the game. Hopefully it might serve as a reminder to some. =)
I want to thank the people who work at Blizzard Entertainment and all the people who have made World of Warcraft what it is. Because it is truly an amazing game.

I can't think of any higher praise than saying that, after several years, I still get excited thinking about it. Once I stop bringing my problems to the game and really *feel*. Listening to the soundtrack. The sheer magic. Makes me want to create a piece of art. But since I can't do that right now, I write! Anyway, I think many people have forgotten that. Most of all, playing it remains *fun*, beyond any doubt. You really nailed the basic elements that make the experience fun, and I'm very grateful that you paid attention to that process.

Most of all, I trust you. I believe in your ability to make the choices that serve the game and its players best. To continue improving this game. Even in the face of criticism, I believe you have made and will make the right choices, and I respect your ability to make the unpopular ones. At the same time you manage to be down-to-earth with your players, you can really sense the life and love behind the game, websites, events, posters... Somehow you all seem like buddies.

I know that there are many others who feel like me. Who think this is a game that keeps on giving. Heck, just the other day I decided to really take a walk in the Temple of the Moon, noticing myriad things I never noticed before - the music and imagining the space, and it was a great experience. I'm looking forward to really rediscovering content both new and old. It's a great feeling, giving yourself to the experience.

Of course there will be problems and challenges as the game goes on, but if I were to trust a group of people to deal with it intelligently, it would be you guys. I know the future of the game rests safe in your hands.

Thanks for being an inspiration.

Agree with OP. I'm yet to see any of the haters make a successful MMO :)

You can dance if you want to, or you can leave your mates to die! Cuz Heigan's the dance and if you don't dance then this ain't no raid of mine!

If people stop and think through how many entertainment products out there could keep you entertained for such a long time, maybe people would be more appreciative for what the people who made this game have done. Of course you eventually get bored of it, that shouldn't come as a surprise at all. That however is not the developers fault, it is an inevitability of human nature. I am astonished how well the game has developed when you thought nothing more new and fresh could come out of it. I am talking specifically about the current expansion.

So I join in with the OP, and say keep up the good work!

And the Lord said unto John; "Come forth and receive eternal life." But John came fifth and won a toaster.

Well, I still play after four years. The secret in my opinion is not to overdo it. :)

I have to agree with OP. I still discover neat, small things that really shows how much the people making this game enjoy their jobs, and I think that enjoyment is part of what makes the game so good, even after all this time.

Victarion "CAT DURID IS 4 FITE", Draconus and Toolan of Kazzak.

I guess thats a true "pwned by a blue" moment.

And I kinda agree with the OP. WoW is a great game, we older gamers might flame blizzard at times, but all the good this game brings outweighs almost every flaw.

Very unusual kind of post to see on these forums...praise? What?! Oo

But one can only nod in agreement really.
I have a whole shelter full of games, yet most of my memorable gaming moments are from some of Blizzard's games. I could analyse why that is for ages, but I won't. Case in point is simply that the games are awesome, nothing less.
I can still return to Diablo II after more than 8 years now and have a thrilling experience. Running around at the Arreat Summit and listening to the music, looking at the view down the mountain, and just having that awesome game experience of fighting the ancient ones at a defining moment in the game. It just all comes togeather as a great experience - and it still does after more than 8 years now.

It's the same thing in WoW (and probably why I stick so much to Blizzard's games). Around midnight when you're really relaxed and it's all quiet, just running a bit around in Elwyn Forrest listening to the music, watching the dark sky with the stars in a sharp contrast to the green and brown trees that are around you - it is such a special experience. And it will remain so forever, it's timeless like so much else that Blizzard makes. Probably what makes their games so good.

It's really cheesy - I know. But given all the negativity and such that goes around most of the time then it probably doesn't hurt much :P
