The original thread which drew great attention from WoW community has been locked unfortunately due some flaming/ambiguity reasons. So posting it again hoping someone would crack this mysterious key.

Objective: Find the key to Salem's Chest

The Key to Salem's Chest is required to open Dark Cleric Salem's Chest, located in a Scarlet Crusade camp at the northern edge of Venomweb Vale in Tirisfal Glades. As of this writing, no one seems to have located the key and as a result it's not known what, if anything, is locked inside the chest.

A possible hint(might be fake) was posted by "A Natural Shadow" around March 2006 to the thottbot.com entry for the key. It reads:

[The lost key is what ur looking for. Once hidden amongst the rubble of a statue out of place in the great city turned forsaken. Humans will never return for the sounds of the dead ring loud in the halls surrounding the throne room closed from the world. The sense of the unseen bushes you as you pass. The key has been stolen by one man not quite dead, but not quite alive, cursed by the touch of Salem. He lost himself to the world so that only those whom can save him, who would risk their own life to hand him an unseen arm of salvation. The man has been driven mad by his solitude and often speaks to himself to easy the loneliness of eternity torn.

Have you paid attention to the voices that land on deaf ears in the hall of the undead? ]

It's not clear where this 'hint' came from, nor whether it actually has any bearing on finding the key. Other postings on the page refer to Undercity residents such as cockroach vendor Jeremiah Payson and Apothecary Keever (who mutters to himself as he performs experiments on his captives). -Taken from wowwiki.com

I'm going with Unfinished Quest for this one. It certainly wouldn't be the first; there is a similar mystery chest in Elwynn Forest.

Apparently game masters are telling that its working as intended on LIVE

working as intended which means put there to confuse the hell out of us

Just looking at that thread, it seems quite mysterious if it's real.

Something - The chest on the private server had a hostile spawn point in it, so I guess when you open the chest you don't loot anything from it, but simply end up fighting something.

Maybe Stalvan in Duskwood has something to do with it.

I have looked around this is a right killer by the looks of it, may be my goal for the next 2 weeks till TBC comes out

After reading this,its more then sure that the key (if it actualy exists) is hidden in Undercity.
I'am wondering....cod it be that this is only available to alliance?

there is 2 statues
one at very enterance
second before king's hall
i never tried to read their stories (no idea how to explain it in english lmao)
with alliance char's,or meyby there is something that only alliance can do with the statues?

that mean's king's hall is failure,it might be at......lady sylvanas windrunner's throne room....

Supposedly somewhere in Undercity if you listen closely to the ambient sound you will hear a conversation/fight between someone, i dont know much more about this though.

It's no coincidence that both Elwynn and Tirisfal have something like this. But that nobody has figured it out in two years..... Sounds like Blizzard purposely left this unfinished to add a sense of mystery to me.

As for the voices that fall on deaf ears in the halls of the dead, go to Terenas' throne room in the ruins of Lordaeron and turn up the ambient sound. You can hear both the scene in WC3 where Medihv appears to King Terenas and the one where Arthas kills Terenas.
