The keyboard itself isn't illegal and you're free to use it...

however, the keyboard have some advanced macro functions, if I understood it correctly, that can be programmed to automate spellcasts and/or making decisions for you (in other words, same thing as what a bot does). These functions are not allowed.

Hi Jsm,

The keyboard itself is allowed, as long as it is used in the same way as a normal keyboard; moving around, typing, that kind of action is fine. Indeed, as you mention, we do provide support for the LCD screen :)

However, this keyboard does have the capacity for advanced macro functions, which essentially automate your movements, essentially turning you into a form of “bot”. You should not use the advanced macros that this keyboard is capable of, as it can result in serious action taken against your account (including permanent account closure).

I hope this helps :)

Heya Eilanai, sorry to be a pain but I got one of these for Christmas, and just wanted to clarify.

We're ok to use the macro buttons to carry out what would be possible with a macro in-game? Such as pressing one button after another like Hunter's Mark followed by Auto Attack?
I like having a handy feature like this without using up one of the action bar slots.

I'm pretty sure I get your meaning, that the advanced features allow timings or something and that's what isn't allowed, but just want to be sure.

(I'm lucky in that I can barely work a computer enough to get WoW going, so no chances of me using anything labelled "advanced" any time soon lol)

Thanks,

Evil

Hi Evility,

Using the keyboard to bind buttons is fine (for example, in the case of a mage, binding the G1 key to Frostbolt). If you were to use the macro feature to do more than one action then that would be a problem (for example, pressing one key and having your character cast a spell, pause, cast another spell, pause etc.).

If you stick to what is possible by normal in-game macros, then you should be fine.

Gotcha, figured that was the case.
Basically mimicking in-game macros is fine, but adding timings is a no-no.
Sounds sensible to me, and thankfully as mentioned previously I didn't even know the bloody thing was capable of that. I know not to go looking now! lol

Thanks =D

If you have a G15, you wouldn't go and buy a different one to play WoW wouldn't you? :P

wonder if the keyboard manufacturer will sue blizz for banning people for the use of legal hardware.
Maybe Blizz should use some money we pay to invest in better ways to stop macro's that do what u say.

No-one has been banned for just using a G15 keyboard. I have one myself.
The rule are simple enough - if you can't do it with an in-game macro it's against the rules to do it with a keyboard macro.

On another note, ANOTHER NECROMANCER! BURN HIM!

why have macro's in game if they are worried about misuse?
U can easily make macro's with timers for use on a normal keyboard. Just kill all macro's and let us play with the buttons they give us.

Damn the fact that I'm playing on a laptop and are too lazy to cheat!:P
Anyway, why the hell would you want to automate WoW anymore? The game more or less plays itself as it is:P
Lemme put it this way...how many buttons(abilities) do you actually use during a raid or a BG or Arena?
Seriously?:)

Another thread which is older than I am!

Thread necromancy is frowned upon, and resurrecting inactive topics makes the moderation of the forums much more difficult. If you have any further questions which Eilanai didn't answer, then do not hesitate to post a new thread which I will be able to see a lot easier. :)
