Recently there has been a number of extended maintenance periods for certain realms. Some of these we informed you about in advance and some we were unable to until during the actual maintenance period. We want to take the time to explain the reasoning behind these extended maintenance periods, and also those that will need to occur in the future.

These extended maintenances are directly linked to the message we posted in early July (http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=9941934722) about our investigations in regard to instance capacity and our plans to implement hardware modifications to achieve positive change for your play experience. As we said we would do in that message, we are now informing and updating you of our progress.

These modifications are typically a two stage process, requiring two lots of extended maintenance for each group of realms being worked on. For the realms listed below, the first stage was completed successfully on Wednesday the 15th of July during a pre-announced extended maintenance period.

On Wednesday the 22nd of July we also began to complete the second and final stage of this process on the affected realms. However, we encountered unforeseen difficulties in implementing the modifications. We were left with two options; either to further extend the maintenance period well into the evening and thus the busiest playing hours, or to take just a couple of extra hours to roll back the changes so that the realms could be back up and playable quickly. Since we did not want to disrupt your ability to play the game during the prime time, we decided on the latter option.

Since the final stage of these modifications did not complete successfully, we will need to do a further extended maintenance for the realms listed below. This is currently planned for the next maintenance period on Wednesday 29th of July. Because of this, we wish to inform you in advance that the realms listed below will again experience extended maintenance as we implement changes that we believe will bring positive change for your play experience, especially in regards to the ability to enter dungeon and raid instances.

After these modifications are implemented successfully, we aim to post up a feedback thread so that you can share with us your thoughts on how they have affected your play experience. At that stage, we will greatly appreciate it if you are able to help us with your feedback.

Though these modifications will be rolled out to all realms eventually, the current group of realms we are implementing the hardware changes on are these:

hey there. i have a quick question.

From what i understood, the implementation is a 2 stage change. Let's say you do it 2 battlegroups at a time. So basically:

BG 1-2 - 1st implementation
BG 3-4 - 1st implementation
BG 5-6 - 1st implementation
BG 7-8 - 1st implementation
BG 9 - 1st implementation

And then, you have the final stage.

BG 1-2 - 2nd Implementation
BG 3-4- 2nd Implementation
BG 5-6 - 2nd Implementation
BG 7-8 - 2nd Implementation
BG 9 - 2nd Implementation

This is just an example, i'm not sure if you're doing it 2 bg's at a time. But taking this example as the status quo, you would be within phase 1, close to ending the 1st implementation of changes.

Is this correct? Will the servers that had already recieved an extended maintenance period recieve a new one shortly?

Not a whine, would just love some more info :)

It looks more like they have that list, which has already gotten p1, and will now be getting p2, and the rest of us have to wait until they see how they react, rather than that we all now have p1 done.

Would it be possible to inform us what time the extended maintenance of this week will run for, just so we can plan our time (unless I missed it in the original post)?

Oh, edit: Will we be getting any compensation for last weeks unexpected extended maintenance? While I do understand that this is necessary work to improve game performance, 3 weeks in a row of extended maintenance is quite frustrating, if you don't mind me saying.

The times are in the breaking news when you log into the game. They always post it there in advance. :o)

Cant really win can they, players being moaning about not getting in instances for ages, then a fix is announced which means a few hours downtime in addition to normal.

And someone hads to go and ask for compensation.

If there is a case for compensation, BLizzard will credit eligible accounts with game time, they have always done that in the past and probably always will, they do usually wait until the issues are solved before they make this decision.

Take a minute to log into account management and then payment history, see how many 'one day exempt' you have in there, thats how they compensate you

I don't really mind the extended maintenance. What I would like to ask about is the mind-numbing server lag that ensued afterwards on (I believe) all realms after they got back up.
Can you please confirm that it will not happen again this time?

i would not have thought they can gauruntee that wont happen, as it is probably due to the number fo people logging in as soon as the server came back online

bah and i hoped the extended maintenance was to prepare for the faction change that you have plan to implent but guess need to keep my patience for a while still since my 6 ally chars wants to join the "dark side" :(
