0. Virgin Media - Telia/Blizzard issues back? 30/09/2007 09:26:41 PDT
I am currently on Virgin Media's 20mb cable service and am having severe problems with WoW, specifically extreme latency and disconnects. The strange thing is that outside of wow my connection is perfect. I am pinging other UK servers at around 20ms, speedtests indicate my connection is running at full speed and am having no problems with downloading, streaming vidoes or playing other online games.
As soon as i log into WoW, my latency shoots up to around 3-6k and after a few minutes i am disconnected. This seems very similar to the problem alot of VM customers experienced a couple of months ago (i remember a huge 20 page thread about it) and i am beginning to think the same problem is back.
Are any of you other VM customers experiencing the same or similar problems? Hopefully as its been fixed before, it can be fixed again :(

You should stop randomly spamming threads Sotossys, You may end up with a forum ban.....
As for the latency. It may just be connected to the recent patch issues although I would give your Provider a call just to see if they are having problems.

Please keep this on topic. I understand people are having lag since the patch but this is unrelated, this thread is for VIRGIN UK customers who are having high latency.
This has happened twice or more in the past so im guessing it is the same issue again. would like to know if anyone else is having these problems.
We did a speedcheck on our connection and an ip trace to a uk web address, all returned no problems.

Im from Denmark and using ''Telia - Stofanet'' (some internet firm)
Im having the exact same problems, so i dont think it matters to what internet service you got, i just thinks its in genral that people are having this lag...

Yeah i remember when Virgin media came out and started buying up NTL and BlueYonder customers. The game was pretty much unplayable.
The sudden onset of these symtoms since 2.2 leads me to suspect they have changed someting in game and its messed up alot of folks.
Of course it would be nice if we could get an official word on this insted of the usual lip service about changing drivers and the problem being on our end.
But anyway.....

after having 6 conversations with numerous people in tech support this is what I have surmised!
if you are being routed through telc-ic-1-as0-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.185.74] to get to wow chances are you have a high latency fault.
I got the CSR to ping the server on his side and he only went through blueyonder/telewest servers which means it's definitely a fault with the link between NTL and Telia BUT ONLY ON THE ABOVE SERVER.
Virgin have basically turned around and said they can't do anything about it, this is a problem telia side not theirs, perhaps some people who are not having latency issues can contribute their traceroutes to this discussion?
I'm probably phoning up disconnections tomorrow anyway and will be on the hunt for a new ISP

Well it seems, that ppl with certain ISP have these problems.
Im using Stofanet aka. Telia in Denmark and I have all the problems ppl are complaining about.
And it seems that alot of people with this problem, is using either Virgin or Telia.
